- So decided to do a small project just for you peeps, I don't know if you guys wanna see an actual animation of this though. Also, sorry its still a little cringy and a lot of sketch lines that kind of ruins the scenes, gotta work on my animatics. I also will probably have some gaps between uploads, college is getting a bit rough now... Hope you guys enjoy it.

Can I just say I LOVE THE DOUBLE MEANING IN THIS PHRASE. On one hand, if W.D. was in the Trial she would think Steven was Rose, so by saying this she's pointing out the fact that a gem she probably finds heartless for killing her creation would never feel the motherly bond she felt with Pink Diamond, but from *Steven's* point of view it's showing how he never knew that mother-child bond because Rose sacrificed herself for him. Like, ugh, this song isn't even meant for SU but it's amazing in context

That one scene is just mind blowing. And I can't get it out of my head. The sheer power of white diamond grabbing a handful of gems and crushing them and just throwing the shards in the air like confetti. Its a terrifying reminder just hke powerful she is and its an amazing effect added to this

You know, It's pretty impressive how close this one was to white's Actual Design. The only differences being the Dress and diamond shape, and how freaking RADIANT she is (as well as how she sounds like she doesn't give a crap about pink. but i'm talking looks) Beautiful Job!!

This is how I wish they decided to portray white diamond. Steven Universe has always done a great job flushing out the motivations of its characters so that even if we don't agree with them, we understand them. I feel like White Diamond didn't get that treatment due to time constraints and I find that to be a shame.

Through this I feel it’s almost it’s like white diamond was like a mother to pink diamond and thinks Steven doesn’t understand how terrible it is to have a child and lose them rather then having them and immediately dying, and she takes it out on Steven. But she also thinks Steven is rose so she’s mad that she killed her child or also mad she abandoned her own young.
Well... it’s not confirmed but it is commonly discussed amongst the fans that White Diamond is the mother of all gems

But I also like the idea of White being able to comprehend the ideas of Earth (not practice them just know about them) unlike Blue and Yellow. So that way her saying the bond of a mother and child is like a jab at Steven. Because that would be savage af.

Yeah, I think the whole fandom is. Amazing animatic by the way, this would be epic if you turned it into an animation. You are really talented.
And I would like for the other gems to call her just 'Diamond' not 'White Diamond' just Diamond (because when you go to a jewelry shop and want a diamond? You don't say I want a "white" diamond nah you just say I want a diamond. )So think about it. If the gems ever mention her by 'Mother' or/and 'Diamond' it would sound like she's like super superior like a god like gem. Right?
Yeah, it looks like it. Though theoretically, if we wanted to do a full parallel to the Crystal Gems and be extra professional, then Pink Diamond would be the leader. Pink and white diamonds are the only pure diamonds. Pink diamonds get their colour by being pressed by bigger pressure and more heat than white diamonds. So technically we could say that pink diamonds are even purer than white diamonds. Plus the leader of Crystal Gems was Rose. The parallel to her would be PD. Pearl is a parallel to BD, Garnet would probs be the parallel to WD and Amethyst and Greg are parallels to YD. If it has any big significance, WD will probably be the new leader after Pink's death.
Pink could also be the oldest diamond, considering how pink diamonds are created. Either she was the first diamond to emerge OR she emerged last, but would be counted as the oldest since she had to be in the ground for the longest time out of them.
that is an amazing idea. Honestly? that seems plausible, but i doubt that the show would do that. I love that idea though.
I honestly would have preferred if White Diamond was like this. Yes, the robotic one is pretty interesting, but it feels like a Macguffin type of character. Replace it with anyone else who abused pink, and nothing much would've changed.

This is definitely the best White Diamond Animatic out there ( and pretty amazing Animatic in general ). I love how you mainly focused on White Diamond's acting and dancing, rather than go through the whole Pink Diamond being shattered part that most other Animatics of this type go through. It's amazing how well you're able to draw White so many times and still make it look like her, since she has a somewhat complex design. Beautiful in looks, works well with the story and song, and avoids the pit holes most Animatics like this bump into, this is definitely one of my favorite Animatics I've seen. Amazing job dude.

I know this animation/song was made before the Pink Diamond reveal, but this would actually make sense in the story canon after "Change Your Mind." White learns that Pink is truly gone, not just playing games. She is basically a grieving mother over her lost child, while Steven is now technically her grandson.

I kinda wished this was White's arc, as well as the 'powering Homeworld bc it's dying'.
The whole 'I have to be perfect' is consistent but is kinda broad and bland, not really groundbreaking for a character like White. It would make more sense if White had to be more perfect bc of Pink, instead of having to be perfect bc she rules Homeworld.
It would feel more emotional and makes you connect more with White and understand her more.
Although I have seen very detailed animations involving White Diamond singing this song(since we all think Christine Ebersole is her voice actress based on the evidence we’ve got), in which they actually look in tune with the shows style, I have yet to see one with this style.
Sure it’s not 100% percent fluid but it’s at least past the 60% mark. The movements really reminded me of something that you WOULD see in an animated show, or any show sequence for that matter. The movements weren’t limited, the perspectives and angles weren’t always the same they were different and it gave more depth to the animation.
This is absolutely (the most) beautiful and stunning. And one of the best animations I’ve seen with Wd diamond singing. Please keep it up. It’s incredible

First of all, the choreography is well thought-out and I like the fact you focused on WD crying and singing instead of the usual "Pink being shattered" thing.
Also, her design is really great. I especially like the hair : On most designs I've seen, her hair go all super saiyan and shit. Your way of drawing her hair makes it look like her mural without turning her into a hedgehog, and I appreciate that on a spiritual level.
The animation of her movements is daaaaamn cool, your anatomy is good and you're consistent with White's design and proportions all throughout the video.

That last line though...it really makes you realize how much this song could fit in with the show and White Diamond's character.

Really makes you think about how White Diamond knows more about the bond between a mother and child does more than Steven, who's a real human with a real mother. That line makes you imagine White Diamond's pain and anger towards Steven, about how his own mother *supposedly* killed Pink Diamond, who was like White Diamond's daughter in a way. Ahhh, this whole animatic makes me so hyped for when Steven Universe returns! :)

I still come back to this animatic- it's one of my fav from the fandom
At first I was like: "aww, she's not an evil tyant, she's just hurt"

Beast Of Edelwood Honestly I think it just proves it even more, that she can and will shatter gems if she wants to, and that her sparing Rose was a motherly move, that she loved her and found it fascinating how Rose loved Earth, even if she was still convinced what Homeworld was doing the right thing? And that she was hurt that Rose chose to sacrifice herself for a half human child, but not for her Homeworld... and then she goes and shatter Pink Diamond and White snaps. Maybe.
I'm just speculating.
Beast Of Edelwood I mean technically this is not a "good person" song. she very clearly points out that this bond is for her daughter to get her into a better situation. so for that means she'll hide all the regret and annoyance of having children and sacrifice everything so when her daughter makes it big, she'll remember loving mommy made it happen and take her along. This song IS about Lady Tremane after all and that woman is selfish as all hell. Her bond is more like a contract than anything. she plays the good mom and her kids do what they can to get rich and powerful husbands so she never ends up in the poor house.
TempleAmarok Nobody claims she's a good person, but rather a hurt person. I think the song, in this situation (Steven Universe's world) is both hatred and sadness, that she wanted what was best for her "children" (the diamonds), and she wanted to find a compromise that would make her children happy.
She loved all the gems and diamonds enough to see over some certain aspects - like Pink having a human zoo.
Homeworld isn't particularly "evil", they're uneducated with no other view on life than the life on Homeworld. White Diamond might've started questioning if her hatred for Earth was logical, and that belief literally shattered with Pink being shattered, hence why they have so little tolerance for Earth and hence why the gems are confused when they find Earth isn't as bad as they thought.
Imagine that the only thing you know about another Earth/Home is that it caused one of your friends to murder one of your leaders? It must've been confusing and angering.
Once again I'm just speculating. ^_^
I know your view is indeed the correct view for the original musical! Please don't get me wrong. :)
Angelica Yes they are claiming that. the first post is "Awe she's not an evil tyrant" before seeing her shatter gems. I'm saying in context of the song in general without seeing her shatter gems, be it Lady Tremaine or White Diamond she still sings the lyrics "feed your little future" "screaming little stranger" "past regret". The tone is sad and easily mistaken for the pain of a loving mother, but the lyrics are not at all a mother doting on her children. It's a woman hoping the squalling regret she has to raise will get her into a better position because she failed to do so herself before she unfortunately had kids.
So as I said, the song itself isnt a sympathetic song of deep insight into a person who is secretly not so bad. it's a song about a greedy person who manipulates others and feels like it's owed to her.
if White Diamond were to really sing this and use this animatic, then it would prove she's not only willing to shatter gems at will, conquer planets, destroy other lifeforms with no regard, but knowingly manipulates the other diamonds into doing so for her own benefit and feels she's in the right to do so. She's not bemoaning the loss of her dear daughter, she's upset that someone is getting in the way of her scheme and manipulating them into feeling like they've somehow victimized her. It's almost like Jasper on the boat who was trying to appear sympathetic to Lapis about missing her but was using abusive manipulation to get people on her side. Lapis, feeling bad almost fell into it without Steven stepping in. In this case White Diamond would be the one guilt tripping an already terribly guilted and stressed Steven.
I'm not commenting on the show. That's up in the air as far as motivations go and clearly most all gems are unaware of what value the worlds they damage and destroy have. We havent even met White yet. she could be just as ignorant and distraught as the other diamonds... or she could be like Lady Tremaine, upset that someone is messing with her plans again. She could be the person who ultimately puts a stop to everything when she finally talks to Steven... or the Big Bad tyrant. we dont know. But here, I'm talking about the context of this song in this animatic. Having been written for Lady Tremaine, especially the specific version who easily sells her own stepdaughter into slavery to a man who obviously lusts for her and splitting up a loving man and wife when she tries to secretly sell him into slavery... all to keep up the idea that she's wealthy and lives lavishly... well... she's not going to have a sympathetic song written for her. This is the best you can do. Paint her as a woman who sees herself as someone who is struggling and owed a better life because she had to raise kids she had with a bad choice of a man who failed to keep her living high and mighty. Even if you take her character away and replace it with White Diamond, those traits will still carry over in terms of the song and unfortunately Lady Tremaine isnt being terribly subtle to make some of the things she says open to interpretation.
I think one of the reasons this animatic works so well, is that it's not really telling us a story. Through White Diamonds motions and emotions we can infer how she feels about what happened. We know Pink Diamond was destroyed, we don't need to see it to confirm that. It's nice to see it go down but I feel like more can be withdrawn from seeing a character react. It's more impactful when we see how a character is affected by something that we know has happened rather than just seeing them be there when it all went down. And the fact that this is hundreds of years later, just makes her pain that much stronger as well as the bond they shared. To know that she hasn't been able to get over it for so long emphasizes how big that event was. It's simple too, since the focus is purely on White Diamond relaying her feelings to Steven (And us). This allows us to understand where she's coming from. This animatic greatly executes the pain we could imagine coming from a character such as White Diamond.

I’d say it’s impressive how close this design is to white diamond’s official look. Just move the gem, add black to the eyes and lips, point the hair a bit, and add the Star effect to the cape and there you go.

This White is a perfect mix of ruthless dictator and grevieing mother. I love it when she shatters those gems just to use them as confetti!
So they say that WD would have been better if she acted like this. I have an idea that I just want to put out there. What if PD was really loved by the others, but they didn't have time for her because of how much work they have? So PD would assume that the other diamonds are so great because of their work. Because she sees Yellow as the Military Leader and thus says that Yellow is the strongest, the one who doesn't get hurt and doesn't cry. Because she sees Blue Diamond as the Democratic Leader she says that Blue is empathetic and everyone can understand her and that she's so emotionally active. Because she sees White Diamond as the Leader of all Leaders, she says that White is perfect, amazing and the best of the best. When PD was shattered, she hadn't realized that the ideals she gave the other diamonds turned into their way of mourning and grieving her death. Remember, it was said that they used to go to Blue's pool and played together. Played together? It doesn't make sense that Yellow and White would do this if they had those ideals before Pink was shattered.
My conclusion is that PD had more of an impact than she realized since she thought the other diamonds didn't care much for her. From the movie's flashback of Pink being given her colony while in the Garden, you can see that Blue was the strict one and Yellow was the supportive one. Why did that change? Because they wanted to be what Pink thought of them.
But white wasn't in any flashbacks. Because White couldn't be there. She was locked away by PD but I don't think its because Pink hated White. I think Its because White was the one Pink looked up to. Pink was a mistake and White was perfect, of course she'd want to be like White. That's why she never said "Yellow, White and Blue wouldn't care." She only said "Blue and Yellow wouldn't care" meaning White would care. Very much so even that she shut herself from the rest of home world and whenever someone would see her, she'd plaster on a smile and fake perfection.
That's just an idea though. Its not canon but I just really want to give white an excuse for being a disappointment compared to the fanon "mom" white diamond.

So the voice actor is confirmed and she did sing this song but I don't think it fits the character at all. Her voice was awesome for white, but the song doesn't fit. I feel white has been around so long that she has no need for emotional connections even if it was another Diamond. No offence because oh my gosh this is a great animatic and it was made before anyone knew anything about white.

Now that White Diamond out of all the Diamonds understands best exactly WHAT Steven is and to what extent that her irreplaceable Pink is well and truly gone forever, I hope that the show goes on to have White demonstrate her own form of bittersweet grief (Sweet, in that she DOES still have Steven; and Steven, while not Pink, IS a being that Pink was willing to give herself up to create) that culminates in a song much like this.

This is by far the best animatic, White Diamond has the most personality on this one. I loved the choreography and the experimental camera angles (This was the only animatic that had that).

This is beautiful! Really! I understand how the song would fit White’s character. The song is all about a mother grieving over her child or something. I see white being a mother type figure to all the diamonds with her authority going down to yellow. So when pink died (shattered) she was very upset. It would be like loosing your child.
So I love this animation because it expresses the pain that White goes through everyday ever since Pinks death. I am probably going WAYY to in depth about a good animation but whatever. Good job! I really love it! And I would love to see a complete colored version but only if you can and have the time!
