shes the voice actor from Steven universe and Steven universe future. Although this song is actually from a different thing, I believe its from a musicale called ever after. Which is a Cinderella adaptation.
I keep seeing comments of people saying stuff about them wishing their mothers were like this or saying that this was their relationship with their mother, but they write it as if their mother was good and this song is about a good mother, it's not. The song is about a mother that raises her child/children to be successful so that she won't have to be poor. I think that this matches White Diamond perfectly.
And cause this was a musical adaptation of Ever After, when she says “how would you know” she is talking to Danielle, the Cinderella, saying that she wouldn’t know what a mother’s love is like cause her mothers dead
*The fact that EVERYONE hoped that White Diamond would’ve sung this in Steven Universe, but NO-* But in all seriousness, this would also go GOOD for Lady Dimitrescu (as said by Duckysee)!
The melancholic, regal and ethereal feel the song has perfectly fits White Diamond. She's effectively the God of all gems, creating the other Diamonds and by extension every other gem. Not to mention the lyrics and meaning behind the song.
How are y'all missing the point so badly? Its a song about a unwilling , abusive mother living vicariously through her kids so they will eventually benifit her someday.
I will be honest, I did not have this bond with my mother over my youth, I have shared more of a mother-daughter relationship with my grandmother instead. However, despite my mom not being able to be there from the start, I still love her the same way as I love my grandmother because what matters to me the most is the fact that they are making an effort to be there for you and support you through your endeavors and trying times. With that being said, I want to do the same for my future child, if I ever have one in the end.
I wish I could've had a positive bond with my own biological mother. Instead she abuses me in every way except physical, though there have definitely been threats.
Despite the fact that this was not written for Steven Universe, in all actuality, it could've fit if they wrote White Diamond as a loving mother figure to Pink Diamond who was in extreme grief at the loss of her child. Fan animations depict such a thing, and it's hard not to cry at the meaning of it. The Crewniverse should have depicted her that way, as someone who was in so much emotional distress and grief that her pain could not be imaginable for anyone who didn't suffer such a pain. It would've ultimately led to us sympathizing with her, and would've shed a new light on White Diamond's character, and all the other diamonds as a whole.
I feel like they DID characterize her that way, its just understated. She's in hard denial about Pink and closed herself off to the point of unwavering uncaring apathy because then she won't have to hurt, feel, ache, grieve. She wants to be perfect because she's in agony
I feel like it’s white diamond singing to Steven because in the end she says “what would a mother not do for her child what lengths would a mother not go. There’s a bond that exist between mother and child, ah, but then again, how would you know?
I know people are using this for Steven universe but I think that this works for bluestar and how she felt about her kits and maybe firestar when he was a young cat himself. I might be the only warriors fan here
I used to think this was the bond me and my mother had, but it was only until I got older I realized I had this bond with my father and great-grandmother, and I was holding onto the hope that the bond I had was lying with my mother. But it never was.
@@sherueatyourbestfriend6791 Thats the case since the start of history. There are people who are suited for having children and people who aren’t. There always have been. But the people who are suited do a **damn** good job at being good parents to their kids. Often doing all that they can for them out of love.
This fits Cora from Once upon a Time literally perfectly.. surprised no one has made the connection yet! Unless the fandom is just dead at this point 😅
For me this song is relatable because I'm aroace yet I want to be a mother and I keep praying to have a child through whatever measures and I will do anything to have them and love them, including paying insane amount of money for artificial insemination. And I love my future child(-ren) more than anything already, even though I'm not even trying yet.

Congrats on being the only other person here with any sense. This song is about a Narcissistic Mother. Dead fking ringer for White Diamond.
And cause this was a musical adaptation of Ever After, when she says “how would you know” she is talking to Danielle, the Cinderella, saying that she wouldn’t know what a mother’s love is like cause her mothers dead
That explains the "This little screaming stranger in your arms might just grow up and save you after all" line lol
THANK YOU! I was looking in the comments, and everyone else seems to be so bad at analyzing lyrics. 😭
It's like a song that a queen or a rich mother would sing 😅

I think a few people have actually made a few animatics of her with this song. They're not bad. 🖤

Songs can have many interpretations, they mean something else for everyone
Why does everyone who points this out always do it so aggressively?

this song speaks of the modern society
our mothers do everything to reach our heights
Sometimes many mothers don't
