I have a soft spot for Rich Girl - probably because it gave me a chance to say a "bad word" as a 6 year old. Not their best musically, but I never fail to sing along at the top of my lungs. IMO, She's Gone is just amazing musically as well as vocally.
@@p.j.williams3167 I know. I don't know WHY people insist on watching live performances when the mix and overall production values are SO much better on the studio recordings. I wish reaction channels would stick to the album cuts because that's how we all heard those songs for the first time on the radio.
Daryl's health is not 100% at the moment. He had to leave the stage at his Vancouver show a few nights ago 1/2 way thru the 3rd song. I've loved him since I was like 5. Hoping he heals and is able to continue his tour. ❤
I will pray. Father, I ask you in the name of Jesus Christ to heal Daryl Hall. I don’t know if he is a Christian or not Father but if you heal him he might give you the credit!
I am 68 years old retired police detective. I am writing to you to tell you how much I enjoyed your show! By you playing all the oldies that I grew up with, brings me back to wonderful times in my youth. Your commentary is spot on and educational. You gained me as a fan. I am looking forward for your review of the THREE DOGS NIGHT. Hopefully I didn’t miss it. Keep up the good work. Thank you! Ron
Hall & Oates are the true definition of "Blue eyed Soul!" She's Gone was originally performed by the group Tavares (they recorded Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel).
Sara Smile, One On One, Maneater, Rich Girl, Private Eyes, Your Kiss Is On My List, Make My Dreams Come True, Family Man, Say It Isn't So, Method Of Modern Love, Out Of Touch. Hall & Oates had so many hits. It's a shame they aren't doing their magic anymore.
If you're from the UK you know straight away that this is a live performance. The Old Grey Whistle Test only allowed live performances. All the other programmes were mimed.
There’s a reason they are the most successful duo in music history, and you just heard an example why. “Sara Smile” and “She’s Gone” were the first two songs I heard by them, and I was hooked.
Have too tell you a little story here about Hall & Oates, A older friend that I had was a studio/session musician that also took concert gigs as a guitarist for a lot of the 70's artists. Either when they needed just a particular sound for an album cut or live shows when it was an artist that didn't have their own full band. He told me about some of the biggest acts and artist that he got to have jam sessions with whether for recording or a live gig and the best Artist that he ever got to play with was Daryl Hall & John Oates. He called them a Musician's Musician, The first time he sat in for a gig with them they had 4 studio musicians. They were given the set list and had 6 hours to rehearse. He said they both didn't show up till the last half hour talked to all four of them about what key this was and that was, tune up their gear and started the show just like that. He said note for note they were prefect. He did 5 or 6 more shows and said the ran them all the same way every time even though the set list changed several times they never missed a note. They were his favorite Musician's he had ever played for. The knew how tell him exactly the sound they wanted and there timing live he said was impeccable. Considering some of the bands and acts he had played with like The Doobie Brothers, Steppenwolf, Springsteen and Steely Dan to name a few. I thought that was very high praise coming from him.
“I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do) should be the next reaction from this duo. “Rich Girl”, “Kiss On My List “, “Private Eyes”, “Maneater” and “Out of Touch “ are the other number one Hall and Oates hits. This duo as a deep catalogue of Blue Eyed Soul waiting to be reacted to.
Dayrl Hall is 77 - just played Vancouver - he had to quit after his 3rd song as he was feeling ill - turns out he had Covid - still touring at 77!! Said he'll comeback and play another date when he's feeling better.
You should listen to the studio version of this song, you will be blown away even more. You get to hear John Oates' vocals even better in that one. Gives me chills every time.
"She's Gone" is the first song I ever heard by Hall and Oates. It was huge on the radio and I would sing it at the top of my lungs. I was surprised to find out they were a couple of white guys when I saw them on TV. It didn't change my opinion of them at all. I love them, always have. First impressions are the best...this is still my favorite song of theirs.
That’s what made the old grey whistle test great, all bands played live. It was a tv program shown late at night on BBC2 in the uk. The presenter was known as whispering Bob Harris. It was a show that showcased the bands talents.
One of my favorite duos of all time. Starting in the 70's, publishing banger after banger in the 80's, they just don't miss. Made me sad when they broke up.
BP. I hope the Hall & Oats dive leads you to their Song Called, "Everything your Heart Desires" that was my mama's #1 favorite. I have the picture of her in her denim jacket on her way out to the Hall & Oats concert with her girlfriends. That song is a VIBE!
Abandoned Luncheonette remains one of my all time favourite albums, well worth a listen, When the morning comes is as powerful as this track- fabulous 💜
Saw these guys in the 80's and again in 2022 and they're fun. Sarah smile is my favourite. I always get surprised when people are shocked by talent. It used to be a prerequisite to success.
I remember back in the 70s...it seemed like every other song on the radio was a hall and oates song. They were prolific hit song writers...and they were all great songs. We really took them for granted as there was so much great music being created at that time. I wish music could get back to some semblance of creativity that that time era is known for.
Always loved them, too bad they broke up and are suing each other. I seen them live about 15 years ago and they were fantastic. Sound as good live as recorded.
***** Straight outta' Philly! 25 of 33 SINGLES CHARTED making Them the "Most Successful DUO" Ever. Genuine blue eyed soul with MICHAEL McDONALD, BOZ SKAGGS, & BOBBY CALDWELL.
From what I've heard, this song was written after Daryl Hall and John Oates got together to comiserate when Daryl's second marriage had just ended, and John had just gotten stood up for a date at a New Year's Eve Party. She's Gone, indeed.
BP, I recommend listening to the studio recording of She's Gone. I love the this live show too but the studio recording has an advantage...John's vocal is highlighted much more than the live concert. And I love hearing him. I think you'll immediately be able to tell what I'm talking about.
I think it’s amazing how many of these performers are fantastic, talented, & nothing is fake either! We all just to roller skating to this every time!✌🏻thx
This is my favorite song by them. I'd say Maneater is a close 2nd. I've never seen them live. They can sing and they blend with each other perfectly. Thanks for another great blast from the past! ❤
I’ve seen them live twice… one time in 1978 or ‘79… and again about 12 years ago… and both times the band was phenomenal! Everyone sang ( similar to when I saw Little River Band), and there were about 8 musicians on stage!
I must admit, I heard Hall and Oates on the radio long before I ever saw what they looked like. I had always thought they were a pair of soul brothers. This is impressive. Live! No autotune. Yeah baby! I hope that one of these days you will check out “Kiss on My List”. It’s my favorite song of theirs. 💐🌸✌️
This is all the music I grew up with from the 70s and 80s. It’s great stuff and I still listen to it to this day. What you really need to listen to is SARA SMILE! By Hall & Oates
Was a Jr. in high school in ‘76 …….lots of memories running around! ✌🏻🇺🇸 BTW…. I hear John Oates music on BB Kings Blues Channel / Sirius XM all the time.
Hall and Oats are legendary. And from memory they are in the rock and roll hall of fame for being the longest musical dueo in musical history.... you should listen Sarah Smile or Man Eater they did the original that was remade in the early 2000s
Great performance!! I’ve never seen this one before. There are people who want live performances to match the studio versions, but I loved artists who give a lot of extras in their live performances. There were a lot of great concerts in the 70’s, 80’s and some in the 90’s.
Daryl has a show on TV called Live from Daryl‘s House in which he invites the artist to perform his and their songs. There’s one you can look up from a guy who was invited on named Jimmy Wayne, who sings their song Sara Smile.. You would really really like that video.
Sara Smile. Best song by Hall & Oates. Though they truly don’t have a bad song.
Can't listen to it without being sad, played at a young coworkers funeral years ago
Pure dreck.
I have a soft spot for Rich Girl - probably because it gave me a chance to say a "bad word" as a 6 year old. Not their best musically, but I never fail to sing along at the top of my lungs. IMO, She's Gone is just amazing musically as well as vocally.
All these songs are good choices but my vote goes to Wait For Me.
I like Rich Girl!
"Live From Daryl's House"- Pick an episode, any episode.
yes
Can't second this any harder, Live from Daryl's house.🔥❤🔥
yes!!!!
It is great.
Absolutely.❤❤❤
The studio version is most definitely worth the listen!
This is a very good live performance but the studio is the best version.
Studio version 100% better
Strongly agree. Great riffing here but the melody is so changed!
They ruined the vocals and the highlights of the song here. Luck of the draw on "The Old Grey Whistle Test" I guess.
@@p.j.williams3167 I know. I don't know WHY people insist on watching live performances when the mix and overall production values are SO much better on the studio recordings. I have been a fan since I was about 12. That was a long time ago. I heard about him leaving the concert early, I hope he gets well soon.
Oh no! I will send him some positive energy. He’s a great guy! 💐🌸✌️
he has been sick due to issues of having Covid.
The news reports say he has Covid. I'm glad he's taking things seriously and wish him a speedy recovery.
I will pray. Father, I ask you in the name of Jesus Christ to heal Daryl Hall. I don’t know if he is a Christian or not Father but if you heal him he might give you the credit!

Ronaldduke6254 I totally agree with every single word. H&O and Three Dog Night are 2 of my most favorite bands ever.
Hall & Oates are the true definition of "Blue eyed Soul!" She's Gone was originally performed by the group Tavares (they recorded Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel).
Hall and Oates are the best selling Duo of all time, now you know why.
I’d forgotten how much i like John Oates voice
Sara Smile, One On One, Maneater, Rich Girl, Private Eyes, Your Kiss Is On My List, Make My Dreams Come True, Family Man, Say It Isn't So, Method Of Modern Love, Out Of Touch. Hall & Oates had so many hits. It's a shame they aren't doing their magic anymore.
They were one of my first concerts that I saw. Sara Smile is one that needs to be covered. Thanks for all the reactions, much appreciated!
Man Eater is also a great tune, but I’m not sure if Black Pegasus has already been down that road.
They were the first concert I saw too! They were the opening act for ELO and their live performance was fantastic.
If you're from the UK you know straight away that this is a live performance. The Old Grey Whistle Test only allowed live performances. All the other programmes were mimed.
I was there to see all the live! We had to creep downstairs and make sure we never made too much noise to wake up mum or we would be DEAD
There’s a reason they are the most successful duo in music history, and you just heard an example why. “Sara Smile” and “She’s Gone” were the first two songs I heard by them, and I was hooked.

Best music show ever. Old grey whistle test was where we saw so many greats at the beginning of their journey.
You can hear the influence that the Temptations had on their music. They were Daryl’s favorite.
It's hard to believe that was almost 50 years ago.
"She's Gone" is the first song I ever heard by Hall and Oates. It was huge on the radio and I would sing it at the top of my lungs. I'm a big fan of Hall & Oates. This is one of my favorite songs from them. You can't go wrong with Hall & Oates. Out of Touch is another great song.
This is my favorite song of theirs.
That’s what made the old grey whistle test great, all bands played live. It was a tv program shown late at night on BBC2 in the uk. The presenter was known as whispering Bob Harris. It was a show that showcased the bands talents.
They did a great version of Me and Mrs Jones. Definitely worth checking out
I love Hall & Oates. Although I love all their songs, She's Gone is by far, my favorite song.
"Sara Smile" is the most beautiful song ever written, performed, and recorded-in my opinion.
One of my favorite duos of all time. Starting in the 70's, publishing banger after banger in the 80's, they just don't miss. Made me sad when they broke up.
A favorite classic song....70's was the best decade
BP. I hope the Hall & Oats dive leads you to their Song Called, "Everything your Heart Desires" that was my mama's #1 favorite. I have the picture of her in her denim jacket on her way out to the Hall & Oats concert with her girlfriends. That song is a VIBE!
Hall and Oates are the greatest they had so many number 1 hits
They're off the charts, freakin amazing and incredibly GREAT!!! So much soul!!! Love it.
Go down they're 70s rabbit 🐰 hole, you'll love it!!!!!❤😊🎉
This song and Sara Smile are just so incredible. Along with all the other songs.
This is probably my favorite Hall & Oates song.
This & Sara Smile.
This is one of my favs, as is Rich Girl and Sara Smile. So good!!!
Dang! That was fantastic! I've heard them my whole life but those vocals?! Wow.
❤❤❤ beautiful voice ❤❤this.
Shes gone 😢
I do love this song.
You would love them doing Me and Mrs. Jones !!! It is fire but anything they do is ! And yes, they are still around !
You are so right! A masterpiece ❤😊
Abandoned Luncheonette remains one of my all time favourite albums, well worth a listen, When the morning comes is as powerful as this track- fabulous 💜
"Someone Like You", Daryl Hall " Live at Daryl's House".💥💥💥 Banger!! Fire!!
Saw these guys in the 80's and again in 2022 and they're fun. Sarah smile is my favourite. I always get surprised when people are shocked by talent. It used to be a prerequisite to success.
Older H&O is the best H&O. She’s Gone, Sara Smile and Rich Girl should be on everyone’s playlist.
Hall and Oates are SO great, and it was sustained for so long.
1975- 1992 greatest music explosion never to duplicated
I totally agree. No fake electronic sounds, just real music.
Wrong. 1964>1980
@@tiniselles
You must not remember the disco years and the cheesy 80s synth pop years
They have soul.
A few years ago I saw Hall and Oats in concert at the Hollywood Bowl. It was a magical night.
all time classic! ♥
Hall & Oats cereal commercial *giggles* 😃
Blue eyed soul for sure
God! They look so young! In 1976 I was 17 , time warp - just turned 65 a couple of days ago, wow
A beautiful song from that album he mentioned "Abandoned Luncheonette" is "When the Morning Comes". A BEAUTY.
Other side of the 80s from the rock hair bands... they are too but the softer side of rock... love it!!
The lawsuits and animosity between the two is just a tragedy. You will never see them together again.
Live from Daryl's house with Ceelo Green will blow you away.
I remember back in the 70s...it seemed like every other song on the radio was a hall and oates song. They were prolific hit song writers...and they were all great songs. We really took them for granted as there was so much great music being created at that time. I wish music could get back to some semblance of creativity that that time era is known for.
Two more worthy live performances#1. Me and Mrs. Jones cover (Billy Paul), A&E show.
#2: Sarah Smile w/Jimmy Wayne, Live From Daryl’s House.
Classic Philidelphia style soul.
Man we had great music back in the day. 😊
Live from Daryl's House...Todd Rundgren "Want of a Nail" ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Always loved them, too bad they broke up and are suing each other. I seen them live about 15 years ago and they were fantastic. Sound as good live as recorded.
The lyric pretty bodies, help dissolve the memories, but they can never be what she was to me is awesome
I feel so great that someone else absolutely agrees love watching and going back to some great memories 💯🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Also just love seeing this version when I want 😊✌️🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🤟🤘
***** Straight outta' Philly! 25 of 33 SINGLES CHARTED making Them the "Most Successful DUO" Ever. Genuine blue eyed soul with MICHAEL McDONALD, BOZ SKAGGS, & BOBBY CALDWELL.
They aren't from Philly
Darryl Hall is from Pottstown and went to Owen J HS.
John Oats is from the Morgantown/Honeybrook area and went to Twin Valley.
One of the most underrated Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, if that is even possible.
one word to describe Hall & Oates.....smooooooooth.
Daryl Hall has a YT channel "Live From Daryl's House" where he has music guests over and they jam. @realdarylhall
I absolutely love Daryl's House I like to mixture of the newer artist in him play in each other songs. Doesn't hurt that they're really good.
I came here to say that. 😀
Ive seen many of those episodes and they are always great!!
The ep with Tommy Shaw from Styx is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
GE Smith & T-bone Walsh from the original Saturday Night Live band (Smith was Gilda Radner’s first husband) were also in Hall & Oates backing band. ✌🏼
Fabulous song by them, and an early one. 1973!!!!!!!!! Love your picks lately.
‘The Old Grey Whistle Test’ was an iconic BBC show which featured some great Artists live! Many where well known but not mainstream!
Hall & Oates are one of a half dozen bands that are regularly played on SiriusXM Soul Town, which is an honor
Oooo… Sara Smile is my favorite! I love Hall and Oates!
Mine too.
This is my favorite of theirs! Everyone loves Sarah smile and it's great too, but this is the 1!! Hall with those add libs......genius!!❤❤
They have a ton of hits. Timeless music.

H&O. No other words but "oh yeah."
What! Never heard White boys doing Real rymthim and blues. They were new comers. Back then. You always make me smile.
Back in the 70 s myself and my partner saw these twice, amazing ❤❤❤❤
I got to work backstage security for Hall and Oates. They were amazing live.
I must admit, I heard Hall and Oates on the radio long before I ever saw what they looked like. I had always thought they were a pair of soul brothers. This is impressive. Live! No autotune. I really like their version of You Lost That Loving Feeling better than the Righteous Brothers.
Yes! Love John Oates on co-lead vocals!
So great. Saw them in concert in the 80’s.
Hall and Oates was a staple back in the day, yeah, they go back and forth so smoothly, it's like ONE singer with a hell of a range
Art is art. Not just singing.
This is all the music I grew up with from the 70s and 80s. It’s great stuff and I still listen to it to this day. What you really need to listen to is SARA SMILE! By Hall & Oates

This song still gives me goosebumps every time after forever years of hearing it...
When song lyrics dealt with human relationships not gang warfare and cop killing. Bliss❤
I've never seen this live version but the studio version is 🔥🔥🔥 and especially the live at Darrells house with Rob Thomas straight flame🔥
