    I have a 2005 Freightliner Century Class S/T, Detroit 60 series smartshift with the clutch pedal with no fault codes . When I first start it ,then put it in gear it shift fine I can drive for hours. When I need to take a break turn it off . then try to get it to go into gear it won't. I would have to sit for a while and then it will go into gear and drive for hours. Do the XY Shifter suppose to display fault codes?
    Please can someone help me

    I have a 2011 Pete and like once a month it gets stuck on 6th gear and won’t change until it sits for like a few minutes and resets and it only happens when I get loaded I drive a dump truck

    Hi I was wondering if you could help me figure out my truck's trans problem, I have a 2012 International automatic Prostar Maxxcruise, when I drive it, sometimes it won't get pass second gear, only after a couple of minutes it shifts to 3rd and so on. when I stop and start rolling again, it will do it again it won't pass second gear. any suggestions? thank you

    What code was your truck giving you in this video? My truck is doing the same thing but the only code im getting is 51 (rail position sensor) do you think that is it or should i just get the gear selector sensor

    I'm sorry if I sound weird, cause I'm not a truck driver and I don't really understand anything in trucks. I have a question. My father is a truck driver and his truck wouldn't go into gear. F of the dashboard. Code 27. He has a brand new Reman transmission (9000$ total), installed it in a shop a month ago. He also has Eaton autoshift. He tried replacing speed sensor, nothing still. Checked battery connectors, the same. What can be the issue?

    Hello!
    Here is such a problem, you can help, also the same box only on classice there was such a problem, sometimes the service blinks rides,and sometimes remains in gear 8 or 9 and does not switch to higher or lower.

    Great video wondering if u can help my truck has the same problem code 58 speed sensor then tech tells me change both sensor on xy shifter and wiring harness and still have the problem any idea what u think it can be ? I would gladly appreciate it

    I recharged my batteries and the lights on the transmission shifter will all light up and then all the lights go off and it might show the red service light blinking but it's not showing in neutral on the shifter or on the dash

    i had rail position sensor code so i changed it now i got a clutch acuator code. Rail position code gone but now other problems

    Recently became an international tech in houston, first time working on these auto shift units. Only a week into operating/diagnosing these transmissions, not 100% convinced of this technology on these. Ive been assigned to train along side a senior transmission specific tech, maybe my opinion will change, not that it matters. Ultimately eaton fuller is a highly reputable company, so time will tell.

      @@bruceleejr7631 its the box like module underneath the bell housing, nearest to inspection plate, 4 bolts for the cover 4 bolts for the module, turn it clock wise to remove it from bell housing.

      @@bruceleejr7631 one more thing, if you plan on removing it without ServiceRanger you may or may not have issues, ServiceRanger calibrates the ECA's position sensor to reassure its clocked correctly and applying the correct pressure to the throw out of the clutch. I dont know 100% that itl cause damage or not, ive seen techs install it without calibration but never saw the life of the clutch. It might be best to have it calibrated per eaton fuller recommendations. (btw ServiceRanger is Eaton fullers dealer level software)

    Hi Erin truck would stick in gear with fault 51 and 56 I changed input shaft sensor still doing the same thing do you think rail position sensor will remedy the issue?Also seems like the service light and issue only happens during alot of shift changing traffic , local shifting etc not going down the highway your advice would be much appreciated before I start throwing parts at it!

      I will swap all sensors, shaft, rail and gear. They only cost around $40 each.

    Was there an issue with I have the same transmission in a Kenworth T800 pump truck and I keep having the transmission fault and get locked in 6th or 7th Gear do you think that replacing the gear select sensor is the answer sometimes I'll stop the truck and let it sit for a few minutes and then it will come back on but it's increasing how often this occurrence happens thank you for your help

      Had same thing happen to me other people i read on line and everyone came to same conclusion it was our clutch.
      It will do it often until you will need tow so get it change.

    My 13speed unltrashift will drive fine , but it will go into transmission default mode and I have to stop and turn off truck and start again. Then it drives fine for 100 to 500 miles then does it again. The dealerships can't find a fault code when I take it to them and they say they can't find any issues . It's been doing this for over 1yr . Some say change xy shifter and some say change clutch actuator. But it's been doing this for almost 2yrs . Now it's starting to do it more frequently. Could thus be the gear position sensor also or likely something else ? It does it mostly when I'm cruising down interstate and on cruise control , not when changing gears. It's also done it when I'm parked in neutral . But if I turn off truck and start again the code clears and is ok again

      @@josiasaez4094 yes it was transmission, I changed the wiring harness and the xy shifter. Now it runs great.

    What about when u stop did it act up like when u had to brake say from 40mph to a complete stop ? Did it do fault n couldn’t get rolling ? Till disconnecting the batteries or something like that ? Cuz that’s happening to my 07 Volvo w auto transmission

      Yes disconnect the battery and wait until it resets

      IT could be your gear select motor or sensor, since you don't have a code it is hard to tell.

    Hey I stopped for the night with my truck off, haven’t had any issues beforehand. Woke up, turned the truck on and after about a minute I get transmission fault code SA 3 SPN 788 FMI 7 stays neutral with F blinking and it wont let me change it to Drive or anything else . It’s 2017 Volvo Cummins x15 with Eaton FOAM 15810s- EC3 smart trans. Got mechanic skills and I’m in a very bad place with rip-off shops around me. Any thoughts please?

      @@luisvega96 it was the transmission actuator the one that moves tranny from N to D if I remember correctly, got burned.

    My truck has an Eaton auto shift, and during up shifts when it gets to 7th gear it takes a second attempt, and during down shifts from 10th to 9th it takes a second attempt. Also if I stop the truck real hard with a load or use the engine brake the transmission will get stuck in gear and won’t shift unless I turn it off and turn it back on like it was in limp mode. Can you help me diagnose it? Thanks

      It could be the speed sensor located by the shaft

    I have a 2006 Volvo with Eaton xy shifter I’m getting a code for shift finger rail actuator 1 (varo) and shift finger gear actuator 1 (vago). Also had power supply electrical fault come on one time. Do you know what that can be?

      Sound like xy-shifter is going bad, because the finger very rarely goes bad. Check out other codes

    hey bud I have got eaton ultra-shift 10 speed . it shifts pretty hard from 7th to 9th gear. what could be the problem.

      Change the speed sensors, 2 on top of the transmission and one in the joke. Very easy to change but spray some WD-40 to loosen up sensors because they get stuck and could very difficult to get them out. Good luck and subscribe.

    I got a 2010 freightliner cascadia DD15 I smartshift.I get a check trans on the dash and can’t start my truck sometimes.I get a code SID 237 start enable device FMI 4 can you help me out with this as to what it might be ,thanks

      Hello Jose your truck is getting stuck on a gear and that's should be the xy-shifter. The gear position sensor or motor is getting bad.

      @@josecampos9372 if it doesn't want to start it is the xy-shifter (gear sensor or motor) what happens is that it stays on a gear instead of neutral. It would get worse. Let me know

    I just bought a PETERBILT with a 13 speed automatic transmission. And is showing tranny Fault on dash board and service light on shifter and took it to PETERBILT and the said that the scanner is not getting any codes . But I do notice a rough shifting on first gears . Do you think is gonna be the same problem as yours?

      After they clear codes took it home and 3 weeks later dash was showing transmission needs to cool down and I notice my fan was turning on at 190 degrees (constantly) so I took it to get check and it turned out there was a short on the temperature sensor circuit of transmission. So sometimes there’s cables rubbing somewhere and they can react with codes !!!

    please help firs it got stucked in 10th gear i had to reset the truck then after couple of days its giving me F while shifting gears i replaced the harnes but this not hellped the problem please help

      That is the gear select, disconnect the shifter for 10 minutes and plug it back and also disconnect the batteries

    What's your overall opinion of the transmission? Is it worth having vs alternatives?

      It is a good transmission but you should have a little experience handling with tools and be ready to get dirty, or your mechanic would take a lot of money from your pockets.

      I r hun a lot of local work and the aitoshift is nice when it works. When it starts to screw up though it can get EXPENSIVE FAST

    I had a 2001 Volvo ultrashift 10 speed with cluch. Cluch is new and adjusted. When rpm goes 16-17 it doesn’t shift up unless I let gas pedal off. It also doesn’t shift lower gear . It just become like neutral. Ecm says mid 130 not responding. And part number 759. Please help. Thanks

      There is nothing to do without a code. Could be bad connections or anything. Sorry

      It was a cable short problem. Ecm to transmission cable was short they fixed it and now it’s normal

    Hey bud I get code 44 and I did the ohms check like Eaton suggested and it’s out of spec Eaton says 2 to 6 ohms mine is 11 sometimes 13

    Erison duran my ultrashift goes out of 2 when starting up I stop about 2 or 3 times then the truck picks up the gear but when I stop again the same problem happens to me.

      Check the clutch but you need to retrieve the code to see what the problem is. Rail or gear select sensors could also be the issue.

    Great video. After I drive for 5 minutes when I stop at a light and move off it wont shift from the gear I move off in. Do you think that's the xy shifter or a sensor?

      It could be the clutch, but try to get the codes from the ECU by turning the key off and on 4 times in 5 seconds. Remember to start in the on position and finish in the on position. It is the only way to know if it is the xy-shifter or the clutch. Good luck

    I’m having this same problem in my Kenworth. I want go into gear but when it does I can drive it and it runs good but sometimes it want go into reverse or drive. I put a new clutch and service the transmission. Just drove it 3 hours no problem. Please help

    I have a 2007 9400i with automatic, I was going down road truck shift to 6 and took a min to go to other gears. I get it home it didn't want to go into gear just started beeping what could be my problem???

      It looks like the gear select sensor or motor is going bad, but to tell you for sure you need to give me the transmission codes. If you want to get them follow this instruction. With the truck off turn the key 4 times in 5 seconds to the on position and finish on the off position the look at the dash and write down the codes

      @@hugoboss3573 go underneath the truck and hit the gear select with something hard (gently) sometimes they get stuck when they go bad, but that can get you back on the road. Replace the sensor or buy a new xy-shifter.

    I have problem on my Volvo 2007 Automatic Eaton transmisson. I got stuck only in 2nd gear when I competely stop, not happend often but every second or third day. I disconnected battaries for 5min and turn on truck again. I had that problem before. My mechanic change harnes and 1 transmisson speed sensor wich was look bad. After 3 weeks no problems and then that problem came back again. On computer in Volvo delarship showing only Fault on transmission. In Volvo delarship told me they need take off transmission and see whats going on and thats 10 hours labor to take off, I dont believe them and I refused. They are crooks. I saw many topics about similar problem, can be XY shifter ? Should I change XY shifter and other two transmission speed sensors ? Can be anything else beside that ? Thank you a lot for advices. I am so scared that I will stuck in 2nd gear in middle of traffic and wont able to move anymore.

      My friend definitely your problem is the xy-shifter (gear select) the dealer did the same thing to me and could not fix it. This is why I did this video

      Mine was always blinking F or not wanting to goto the next gear. Like right now after changing the xy shifter, new transmission harness, and clutch. It’s still giving me issues. It’s hard to keep a driver in it when the problem just always comes back.

    I have the f flashing while driving thru the gears....but in 9th-10th the transmission goes blank as if the clutch is slipping a tech said to change the harness on the trans because I’m getting a break inertia fault that says short in circuit

      If you are getting the Inertia break code it could be the clutch. When did you changed it? I don't think is the harness

      Erinson Duran I haven’t changed nothing....tech that scanned it said there’s a short & parameters are not right.

      Also when I put the truck into gear it seems to slam the gear in similar to a manual truck that needs a clutch adjustment and when I start moving it jerks violently to begin applying clutch

      @@trucklife8189 what make and year truck do you have? You can get the codes by turning the key to the on position 4 times in 5 seconds. Start in the on position and finish in the on position then wait for the code in the dash. 25 and 88 are ok

    Hey Erinson, I know this is an older video. But I would like your opinion if possible. I have a 2014 Pete 579 with 538k miles. I was offloading at Walmart, and when driving away, suddenly I cannot go past 5th gear/19mph. I replaced the Range Valve, Splitter Valve, and Air filter regulator for those two valves. Still having the same problem. It is showing code 71. But it is not stuck in gear. Gears 1-5 perform flawlessly. Your opinion is appreciated!

      To me it sound that your 6th gear is bad, I would see if I can find some pictures to send them to you so you can have an illustration of what I did. My truck was a volvo and what I did when that happened to me was that I managed to get the top of the transmission where the xy-shifter sit on and found out that one gear was bad. I when to a junk yard and bought a bad transmission, got the tail with yoke and pay a Mechanic just to replace that gear. The tail is where the range is attached.       Your problem is the Rail select sensor or motor, go under the truck and tap the xy-shifter with a wrench or hammer (gently) then go and start the truck. Try to retrieve the codes with the key and let me know. Dont forget to subscribe to the channel

    Hi I'm wondering if you could help with an idea of what could be my problem, my transmission is doing the same thing as the video & every time it has to change gears is sleeping or getting stuck on the previous gear, & doesn't do any changing until I stop cut off the truck & let it cold down a little bit like 30 minutes and that's how it gets out of gear to neutral but keeps doing it, Changed the clutch actuator works for like 3 hrs and start doing it again, the codes that I got is 2 #88 & #27 any help with an advice or any idea that could be the problem will appreciated thanks in advance sorry for the long texts..

      Make sure you dont have it in manual mode, it could be one of the motors. You must have a code for me to help you from here

    The shifter is gonna go bad eventually and maybe pretty soon. why not the change everything since you are taking it off and be good for 2-3 years, I changed sensors and the harness but not the shifter and it cost me $1500 more to change it on the road, trying to be cheap on parts will end up costing you more

      Erinson Duran brother all of sudden check transmission light came on service light was on. Stayed for a while and it went away. Kw 2018. Happens sometime cycled the key no code showing

    Hey what's going on, I have the same issues. I have a 10 speed ultra shift the back seal of the transmission is leaking alot of air I replaced the seal the high and low range valve speed sensor gasket check valve regulator and i still have the same issues. Any suggestion?

    This sensors are easy to replace and you don't have to expend $1300 plus towing and mechanics

      I changed the sensor and it gave me problems 1 day after then it ended up to be the speed sensor. That was my problem

    Hey bro, I have a 2008 Pete with 10 speed Ultrashift DM3. It won't catch any gear from nutral. I did a reset with the ignition key twice, and it worked and I drove for about 50 miles, but the problem came back when I stopped to park it for the night. Now I'm getting fault code "88". After I stopped for few hours, I tried again, and got it to catch a gear. Any idea what the problem is? Thanks.

      Definitely It is the gear position sensor. You need to get a new xy-shifter, 88 means that you computer did not find any problem at starting.

      Just change the hole shifter with the motor but know it gets stuck in gear and wont up shift or down shift can it be the speed sensors please help

      @@rickgallorobles3992 the speed sensor is located in the rear of the transmission and it is easy to replace, I'll recommend you to change it as well as the input sensor on top of the transmission. They only cost $39 and are the same. If it is stuck on a gear disconnect the battery for ten minutes an plug it back, it should reset automatically.

      Yes you should start looking to get a new xy-shifter because it is going to leave you in the middle of the road. Or get the code and I'll tell you what to do

      Sid 254 fmi 8 controller 1,spn 769 fmi 7 range low actuator,towed it to repair shop now waiting for the morning.Thanks for replying! It made a ton of grinding noise when starting in 1st gear

      @@erinsonduran6663 follow up,after replacing range valve problem did not reappear and it has been 20k miles since then,by the way truck worked fine after sitting overnight but i insisted he check range valve and he measured resistance or voltage idk and he found its bad 300$ part

      Robert try to get the code from the transmission not from the truck ecu, because Eaton's transmissions have their own ECUs

      I have a automatic with clutch kenworth t660 2009.
      It started acting weird since it didn't want to downshift from 10th gear. I watched your video trying to fix it. I disconnected the low gearshift sensor and let it sit for half hour until it restarted. It turned back on but half hour on the road it started acting weird again showing the service light on and letter F on the dashboard. What could be the solution?

      @@obedcedeno2985 it sound that your XY-SHIFTER is going bad but without a code I can't help you. You can retrieve the code by turning your key to the on position 4 times in 5 seconds but do not start it just to the on position. You will see the code in the dash.

    THE REAL FIX::: Throw all that crap away, and go get yourself a tower & shifter knob.
    I don't know what brainiac engineer came up with the stupid idea turning a Manual Trans into an Automatic. Listen, Eaton needs to stick to manufacturing the Manual Trans RTO, RTLO etc etc. Let the people at Allison make the automatic, they are good at it.
