God man... We owe this guy a cup and we couldn't get it done. Damn shame.

That's how I felt as a Leafs fan. I really wish Patty had gotten a cup! He and Jumbo both deserved a Cup. And the Sharks were so beastly for a decade with those two.

Celebrini and boys will get it for him (as part of the coaching staff) in time..
That first Cup we get will carry all the sharks legends with it.

Have always had a ton of respect for Patrick. He’s the definition of a class act and even though his time with my favourite team (Leafs) was short I’m happy he was able to spend enough time here to not only make an impact with his play but more importantly to make an impact on the young players on the team on how to be a pro.

Wow, I remember the day you were drafted and how happy I was we got you over Jumbo (of course we later fell in love with him too and thrilled he became a Shark too). We watch you thrive and only get better and bring joy to our homes and lives. Met you few times. Congratulation Patty. It's strange how we come to love a person who is not part of our family. But, you became one. We wish you all the best life has to offer with good health and lot's of family time. I can only pray for you to experience the same thing with your boys. God bless

It's so funny. I didn't realize they retired his number but earlier today, as a Leafs fan, I rewatched when the All Star game was in San Jose a few years ago and Matthews pulled his jersey off to wear Patty's number. Still one of my favorite moments in hockey! Sharks fans love ya and so do Leafs fans! You're a class act! Congrats Patty!!!!

I had the pleasure of meeting Patrick Marleau, Joe Thornton, and Joe Pavelski back in the early 2010's for a brief moment while living on Long Island, NY. They were absolute gentlemen and couldn't have been any nicer. It was a pleasure to watch you on the ice. Congrats on the next chapter of your life. Enjoy it.

As a die hard Dallas Stars fan, I must say that was a great ceremony to one the greatest to lace them up. The battles between the stars and sharks brought many great moments and not so great moments. I have and will always respect Patty Marleau's game, he was a special player that gave me plenty of restless nights sleeps with those smooth hands and goals he put on my stars. True respect to a legend in the game, well deserved Patrick.

Congratulations Mr. Shark!!!! My goodness, Joe is there too!!! Bring him back. Patrick you were the heart and soul of this team. Forever a shark. I’m so sorry we couldn’t get you a cup. But when they do I hope they dedicate it to you, as you are an integral part of the team, I’m sure to this day. I’m sure the men on the roster were able to learn so much from you. Congratulations sir, you were able to live your dream. I do wonder why there wasn’t a 49er present. I love love love the 49ers, I support every single one of these teams… except the Oakland A’s not so much. It’s like if your a niners fan you can’t support the raiders… one of his sons was crying when they lifted the 12 up to the rafters; his second oldest. It’s gotta be hard.

Sick that they didn't write him a one-day contract and let him play a few lines, there's no question he still has the skill. Maybe he didn't want to, I don't know but I'd have loved to have seen it. 🥰

Credit to the guy/gal who shouted “We love you Patty” when the applause died down & Marleau paused between paragraphs. Also f*ck Hasso Plattner for being on auto-pilot since the Stanley Cup debacle; #TeamTeal fans don’t deserve an absentee owner.
