GKs RE: Pickford. He had 16 BPs last season compared to Raya's 6. Even if you remove all 16 and keep Raya's 6, he still scores 2 more pts than Raya last season (but played 6 more games). He's the best 5M keeper and a set-and-forget keeper that you know is going to put you near the top of the GK score pile next season. Whether or not that is worth 0.5M is another story. Statistically speaking, around 150 pts is the most you can hope for from a GK if you believe the extra time rules and lack of clean sheets trend continues this season. Only 1 GK scored 150+ last season (Pickford) and only 3 scored 130+ (Raya, Leno, Onana). The next top 5 have an avg of 115 pts for the season. So the question is whether or not 0.5M is worth 15-35pts over the course of a whole season? 130pts / 5M = 26pts per M. If we split the difference of 15 and 35 and look at 25 pts / 0.5M, that is 50 pts per M. I think we'd be hard-pressed to find a better investment of 0.5 in all of FPL than picking a 5M keeper that has a good shot at 130-150 pts unless you think there is a 4.5M keeper that has a better chance at 130-150 pts.
Agree. Newcastle is a perfect defense to get. They got 10 cleen sheets last season with all the injury. And the Best part, the 8 of Them, Was at home. So just play Them home. And pair Them with konsa, and you have a pair for the hole season. The Hard part is to find the right one.
Raya is the cheaper option to have a piece of the Arsenal Defense. Saves 0.5 vs locked Def, saves transfer at GK with a locked starter, and allows for Gvardial & Trent. Gives me Arsenal, MC, and Liverpool defense.
Raya is a great choice. Probably the best Pts/M asset in FPL. He has a 38% clean sheet record across 3 seasons in the FPL... and 2 of those were with Brentford. Raya + Gvardiol + Trent + RotationDefense is a very good strategy and aligns with some of the best AI-based predictive models for formation and budget.
if he played all matches for Arsenal last season, he would probably also have been the top scoring goalkeeper, people seriously underestimating Arsenal defence 👀
Quality content! While I've seen similar videos out already, the players called out tend to be players that more experienced FPL players are already avoiding while this one is touching on "Popular" picks which is amazingly well done and makes it very relevant.
I've got Raya and I think I'm sticking with it - definitely want Arsenal cover in defense and he's the cheapest and most nailed route into it. I have a feeling Arteta is going to rotate the backline quite a lot this season!
Thank goodness you put something on Harry. Honestly, the only one I enjoy watching. Your vibe and passion is real and you don't bore us with hours of content. Thanks mate.
The only player I slightly disagree about is Declan Rice. I could be wrong, but it seems he performed much better in the second half of last season. I expect him to continue in this form.
I like the video on the whole. I like that you genuinely did include popular players and I agree with every single pick you had. However, your logic about goalkeepers is backwards. Expensive GK get their points primarily from CS with some from saves and very few from BP. Cheap GK get their points primarily from saves with some CS and some BP. If the above statements aren't entirely accurate that doesn't really matter, it is the general trends which are absolutely correct, that do. The BP changes: Way less BP for pen saves - affects cheap GK more, because they face more pens. A lot less BP when goals are conceded - almost entirely just affects the cheap GK, as they often still got BP even after conceding whereas expensive GK never do. Less for any players not getting shots on target - again affects cheap GK more as they simply score more BP than expensive GK. Across the board, the BP changes affect cheap GK significantly more than the expensive GK. In fact, they affect the cheap GK quite a lot and basically don't affect the expensive GK at all. I'm still not recommending expensive GK, I'm just pointing out that the logic used in this video is backwards.
Very interesting information about some very popular players. I've had Burn, Foden, Konsa & Mateta in recent drafts, But with this new information I'm less likely to keep Burn & Mateta, at least in the first 2-3 weeks. Foden is the biggest question mark, with Pep's comments suggesting he may have limited minutes in GW1-2.
The 5.5 GKs usually get fewer bonus than the cheap GKs. The change to bonus system hurts the cheap GKs a lot more relatively speaking, so it actually makes the low save + high CS GKs (Raya/Ederson) better.
Rice takes set pieces including corners for Arsenal and they had a very good conversion rate last season. Considering the fact that they scored twice from corners against Lyon in their friendly game, I believe Rice could be a good option for week 1.
I have both Raya and Foden in my current draft. The team ranks 100% on fantasy football hub with a 97% game week rating (70.0 points) for GW 1 and 0.5m in the bank. I will monitor the Foden situation carefully though.
The Everton defender that looks more interesting is O'Brien... Branthwaite isn't going to start season and O'Brien has some serious goal threat and has scored regularly in the preseason matches, and had a good record last season in France. Sure, this will be a short term pick, but could be a great differential option for those looking for an early wildcard, or who save some transfers...
What do you think about the idea of picking a differential in game week 1? I want to have Kulusevski but I know that very few have him. He’s been playing as a false striker during pre season and has been involved in a handful of goals.
As a Newcastle fan, I don't know anyone who doesn't want Lewis Hall to start at left-back. He has potential to explode this season. Would definitely go for him over Dan Burn.
I would prefer hall at lb too if I was a Newcastle fan, but Eddie likes burn somewhere in his 11 proven in last few games last year when he was captain of the team, people jumping to conclusions imo
I agree with Burn, there are better Newcastle picks especially if trippier leaves. A £4.5m keeper like Sels, Henderson, Sanchez or Flekken all of which appear now to be 1st choice options are good value. I disagree on Mateta, yes he is at the olympics and on fire by the way, but he wasn’t in the French squad at the euros and has already had a break, I fancy him to start in GW1 in red hot form. Bang on with Solanke, Joao Pedro and the CDM’s!
Also don’t forget Villa are a quality defence and the fixtures aren’t to bad, maybe Konsa could be a GW3 onwards options for rotation with a Mykolenko/Andersen also at £4.5m
FYI - Mainoo isn't a CDM, he is a box to box player, still not a brilliant FPL pick at this poiont, but not as bad as an out and out CDM, he does get forward and offer goal threat like he did in the FA cup final. I think he is one to watch.
I eouldnt recommend raya. Simply because he was an arsenal signing and he played a great season. Which historically means he'll get replaced now ? Cos the pep effect can be devastating on a lesser managerial mind - and has been well known to cause random replacement and ludicrous club expense.
Agree on all of them except Raya, potentially a million saved I know, but he's a season holder for the best defence by far in the league, nowhere else I'd rather use that million. You simply need arsenal defensive coverage, and if you're arguing picking Saliba for security of minutes over Gabriel, you might as well pick Raya, no one safer than him, and you save 0.5 m ✨
Lovely video! One question I have on the premium Goalkeeper section is Raya being an option to save 0.5M on covering Arsenal defense (from 6M Gabriel or Saliba). A 4.5M Def and 5.5M Raya seems comparable to a 4.5 GK and 6M Gabriel/Saliba with an extra 0.5M saved. Am I wrong in this line of thinking?
I’ll be going without Watkins for the same reasons you outlined with Konsa. Just don’t think Villa will be the same team without Douglas Luiz and with champions league football
Son is really hard to manage you just know the min you take him out he will score 2 , but he does have dry spells ,i think eze and saka is the way to go
I just replaced Gabriel with Robbo for the chance of assists since Liverpool have easy games or do you think it’s too big of a risk so should swap Robbo back to Gabriel or keep Robbo ?
One thing putting me off Saka is the amount of football he has played. Can we expect him to be at top form at the start or will he take time to hit peak form?
Can't disagree with any of your avoid picks. With no form to consider in GW1 the key metrics to think about are fixtures, value for money and are nailed to play from the start, particularly if you want Salah and /or Haaland in your squad. With the ability to now keep 5 free transfers, a solid first 11 who meet the metrics mentioned means you can exercise patience, see who performs, etc. to avoid the dreaded knee jerks or early wildcard.
I dont really get the point about keepers getting less bonus means they're more likely to score the same points as each other. In the past its been keepers in the bottom half getting bonus (but less total clean sheets) so they score aeound the same as the premiums who don't get bonus. Now none of them will get bonus and it will pretty much be 6 or 2, the premium keepers should be ahead (whether it's worth the price is a different question)
I have Dan Burn in my defence but if he's not set on to play week in week out, who can I implement that's the same price? Thought he was a good option but it seems like a huge risk as Newcastle's defence will either hit or miss.
Don’t believe Mateta won’t start GW1…him playing at the Olympics is not much different from the rest of the Palace squad playing pre-season matches even if he plays last match 1 week before GW1, it’s not 2 days before GW1. Also, Palace did not play in Europe, Mateta did not play at the Euros, so he did not play as many matches as the likes of Foden, Bellingham etc. last season. And Palace will rely on his goals. I’m positive he starts that 1st match.
I have raya as I decidedlast season If he was cheaper then the other Ares defenders I'd just have him all season no rotating keeper. I have Danny ward as a joke 4.0 throw back
Think some of your numbers are off. The FPL app shows 4.7 points/match for rodri and 4.3 for rice. I won't pick them but have the correct data on your videos.
Have I been living in a timewarp or something? The euros finished about 8 months ago (give or take a bit 😉) so why would that affect anything? Seriously though. The euro final was 2 1/2 weeks ago. These guys play twice a week for most of the season. What's the issue?
I have Solanke in my GW1 draft, so I completely disagree with you! I really like how he rotates with Adam Armstrong and I'll be 1 transfer ahead of the rest of the community long term
Surely any of the England players, and spanish that were involved in The Euros should be avoided, 11 month season, then at least 3 weeks off, cant see any of them starting gw1
With rumours of Mykolenko leaving and Rodriguez coming, will you go for Pickford at 5.0 for set and forget. He actually be a long term pick. I actually have this dilemma. Currently have this dilemma.
I'd include Robert Sanchez first of all he's a very mediocre keeper can make some good saves but always a mistake or 2 every game. Chelsea signing a new keeper means even if he starts the season he's not guaranteed to be no.1 too much of a risk imo.

A well studied comment. Spot on!
And Everton looked decent at the end of the season. Can see them keeping clean sheets.

Taking data for Newcastle defence last year is insanity too me. They had major injuries in multiple positions throughout the whole season
I completely get your point but Botman is still injured for example
Agree. Newcastle is a perfect defense to get. They got 10 cleen sheets last season with all the injury. And the Best part, the 8 of Them, Was at home. So just play Them home. And pair Them with konsa, and you have a pair for the hole season. The Hard part is to find the right one.
TBF, even if everything is completely different now, doesn't that give more doubt over the starting place for Burn?
botman's injured for the start of this season & trippier likely to leave
