My mum liked this band already in the 70s before i was born but i had not heard this song until they played it on the radio about a year ago, it is a nice one. My son likes it too so i guess we are 3 generations that likes it now. :)
One of many great hits by one of the most under rated bands of all time . Love the way they went through at least four key changes upwards keeping the happiness of the song . Just brilliant !
I only found out yesterday I wasn't alive when they were at there peak but I listened to their music on a record player in the 80s I'm still listening to them in 2020 on CD and you tube 😊.
I first listened to Ballroom Blitz with 8 years old. Then grew up with the more heavy side of Sweet. I think they are the reason I got mad for Heavy Metal! They will always be one of my beloved bands!
As a typical American rock radio kid of the 70s, I loved Ballroom Blitz and Fox on the Run but never knew until 2019 how incredibly diverse these guys were!! I'm amazed the rest of their songs didn't get a lot more airplay.
There was Little Willie , & AC DC Made it on to radio ,Desolation Boulavard Has To Be My Favorite album but More Than Anything ,, THESE GUYS WERE AWESOME LIVE ! NO ONE TAKES THEIR PLACE FOR ME .
Wow wow wow. This brought back some warm and wonderful memories of a blissful childhood. Makes me want to turn the clock back in time to when I was 3, 4 years old.
The guy playing steel pan is my friend, Miguel Barradas. A great player who went on to have a really fine career- some of it, I'm lucky to say, with me!
It'd be nice to see his name in the credits on the video. OK, so he wasn't a full-time member of the band, but I think he at least deserves a 'Featuring' mention.
What great fun! These boys had so many different styles it can be bemusing at times. Filming in a force 8 gale was a bit different, too. Calypso Connolly sounds very sweetly in my ears.👍
Especially on Cockroach ... that drumming is epic, classic, down right naaaaaaaaaassssty!! That is my favorite track. If they ever get in to the RRHOF, THIS song should be why - masterpiece right here!!
Dont believe i had forgotten this is their catchiest one ever , and different for them , I remember immensely enjoying it many thanx , soooi good 2 hear again 🌟🌞🌟
Brian must have been about 26 when they released this in the UK in February 1972. One of my favourite glam rock bands. My daughter is 36 now and she was weaned on glam rock. I've always had Gold radio on through the day, so she was used to hearing Sweet and once said, when she was in her teens, that Brian had such a distinctive voice that if she heard him singing any song she could tell straight away it was Brian Connolly! I taught her right! 😂
I love Sweet, great music and love to sing along 🙂. That was such a great time, when this group and many others did what they could do so nicely. Greetings from the Netherlands
Love this song! Poppa Joe was our friendship group’s signature song when we were 16 😂❤ Even at 53 I still know every single word! 😂 But then again…that goes for just about every Sweet song!
😍😍😍. . Light blue vinyl record, called HIGH TENSION. Thanks to that vinyl and my dear dad, I discovered this wonderful song. he listened to it there around the year 79/80 approximately.😍😍😍
Bravo ! You got it ! " Hey, Poppa Joe ” does have a therapeutic effect (and meaning). This hit is actually more alive today than when it was when created for _that_ generation. 3jun19
Inovidables The Sweet.
Maybe it is but then people just have to listen on done me wrong, on the same album as this one, and they will know sweet was much more heavy then what people thought/think. Stay safe
@@sverkeren Just because they weren't allowed to play on the early songs doesn't mean they couldn't. Obviously they had to play them at live concerts. Watching them live at Musikladen proves they could play anything they wanted, and had excellent skills.
Ajinkya Pisal. I agree!!!! Where are you from? I´m from Finland. Do you know HIM and Ville Valo??? The Sweet is amazing, but have you heard HIM? It´s my favorite band too. Greetings to you :) !!!
Oh, how badly we need these happy songs these times... I know it's not easy, but try to stay strong and positive everyone!!!

Great group of the 70 s
Why can’t music be like this now and forever…
I was born in 02, but I enjoy this kind of music more than any others
I like this song very, very much
It was better in the "outtakes CD" IMHO.
Rest in peace Steve Priest. We will remember your crazy bass line in this song!
I really miss these days. It seems EVERY song was great.
It seems so because they were.
@@flory.9598 Well said 👏 I was 15 😉
I was 14 then and always be a fan of the band. Even now when I'm 65!

They were so incredibly good and very talented. Their harmonies were something special.

Steve Priest, may he rest in peace. He gave us so much joy for so long.

It was through your comment that I found out Steve had died.
I am just heartbroken.
What a voice.
May he rest in peace.
Kate in Ireland.
Not just Steve the band did.
Someone on 1 of these videos said "Rest in Priest" ... I thought that was nice.
@Singh I know you weren't and it is funny.
I only found out yesterday I wasn't alive when they were at there peak but I listened to their music on a record player in the 80s I'm still listening to them in 2020 on CD and you tube 😊.
Jeden z moich najbardziej ulubionych zespołów lat 70-tych XX wieku! Dzięki !
Brian is just such a delight to watch, a good front man, with a awesome voice. RIP
"So, you guys are Glam, Hard Rock, Bubblegum or Progressive?"
Sweet: Yes!
Brilliant.
And Regge
Add Punk Rock as well.

Sweet, good old Sweet ....
Wer hört die alten Sweet Songs noch 2024 ❤🎉❤
Ich!
Gerade jetzt.

For diversity check out their album track/b side title "some one will" just don't play it in church or with kids around 🎉
Alot better musicians than a lot of people them credit for

Simply awesome..they always bring the sunshine..☀🎸
Original glam rock band loved em
This song was at #1 position in the Dutch top40 at the day I was born.
Always gives me a smile this song..
We used to dance the samba to this song.
listen to sweet's songs, it's a band that deceives, they made all kinds of music

Brian vedel jednoducho melodicky spievat a svojou skronostou sjeho skupina dostala medzi top
Oh wow! Does he remember how cold it was filming this?!
I was trying to find who played steel drums. Not credited anywhere. But now when I got his name, I found him. Thank you!
I grew up with the British super groups dominating the airwaves - sounds just as great today as it did back then !!!!
So true
Perfect for a Medley Co-Co and Poppa Joe :-) After more than 45 Years ! A stunning and underrated Group, I'm so sorry (tears)
this is so brilliant!! Steve and Brian look so young!!!!

ooooooooh yes,RIP.
Way ahead of his time. Man with the Golden Arm was and still is amazing to listen to.
is it only my opinion or the voice of Brian Connolly here sounds just adorable?
There’s no words I’m in heaven, that’s beautiful Brian, and superb sweet 🍬
He had a great sing voice could sing anything.
@@michaelmckenna7109 He sure could, bless his heart ....
I’ve always thought Brian Connolly and David Cassidy had similar style voices... and I mean that as a compliment.
Less forced than other further songs...
The good old days.i love it

The Sweet had their sound licks look stolen by just about every rock band of that era. Most underrated band of the 70's. Miss them

I miss them too... Brian Connolly has always been the perfect performer for me. Well, thank God they were in our lives. They were and still are.
Sweet doesn't have a bad song

Didnt know that pro pool player Efren the magician Reyes was also steelpan player in Sweet. So Sweet!
This song ALWAYS pops into my head. Now, first listen for at least 50 years. 🙂
Maestros geniales , recuerdos de mi infancia.
Started working on a time machine to go back to 1972...
Check out the Black Mirror series - episode San Junipero
I little bit of nostalgia with these wonderful songs. The message is fresh and the rythm makes your soul feel alive.

The whole BAND has FUN here!
This is a song that brings you in a good mood, I love it! And such an impressive limbo dancer in the clip!
Hell yeah, that dude was badass. Limbo that low under a fire bar.
In quei trmpi, quanto ero spensierata , e quanto l'ho ballata!
A sort-of companion piece to "Co-co", during the band's early "Bubblegum Pop" era! At this time they seemed to be experimenting with Caribbean sounds!
Omg I bought this single!!! Not heard in many moons, aww! Always loved The Sweet!
Love it. Im 60 now but bought an album when I was 12, its called super groups staring Sweet , Slade & T Rex, still have the album.

Always blown away by a) the masterful work on the cowbell (totally serious) and b) the vocals at the end that keep modulating up. Such a catchy tune.
Indeed the most underrated band EVER!!!!
Practically all of their songs were hits in the 70s, underrated?
Most people these days have no idea how much Sweet influenced many other top bands, including Queen.

Fantastic as is everything they did

And to think these guys did some of the heaviest metal this planet's ever known...
Milo X they were the gateway drug to heavy metal.😊
Bullshit. They had heavier B sides but they just copied from Purple/Zeppelin and it wasn't metal.
milo - yes for some reason the switched from calypso to glam rock - they then had bigger hits though so maybe that was why.
Poppa Joe peaked at number 11 in the UK charts.
Pip Williams on guitar. Great song. Cheers!
