  • Hoka pretty much invented the max cushion genre, and its thicc boi flagship is the Bondi. For version 8, they’re going with a new foam and a reshaped footprint. But have they changed enough to keep up with the rest of the market?

Thats great for walking and when you have to stand a lot.

As a heavier, slower runner, trying to come back from injury, I was recommended the Bondi by a podiatrist. Unfortunately I've not had a good time with them to date.
I find that although they have plenty of squish, I don't get any spring in return, and just get bogged down in the cushion, having to work harder to push off with each step.
There also seems to be a hard piece under each arch, which I find can dig in a little bit.
They are bearable on a treadmill, but on hard surfaces like concrete or tiles, I'm going to have to try something else, as they just make every run an unpleasant slog.
It's my first time trying Hoka, and it leaves me wondering if other models have the similar issues for heavier folk like me?

@@Dan_South thanks for the tip. Just saw a clip on the 'Via' (as the final market name could change) and it does seem to look like a 'beefy Hoka' from a side profile IMHO. Right now I use a new Altra Rivera in my show rotation BUT 1. it took a little time for me to get used to the new Altra 'slim fit' upper on the Rivera which now feels good, and 2. I still struggle a bit with locking in on the Rivera's heel (and it didn't help that Altra shipped the Rivera with laces that were too short). ... Will have to keep an eye out for the Via, thanks again.

@@meezoo2 I currently ordered the new balance fresh foam more v3 and v4. V3 is very comfy but in comparison the v4 adds another whole level of cushiony cloud-walking goodness. I am looking at this video to decide whether I should order the bondi 8 because many people swear that the bondi 8 is currently the best max cushion shoe just to make sure which one I like better, hoka or new balance. But I tried the clifton in the store and it felt totally stiff and not comfy at all when I came there with only the new balance fresh foam 1080 v12 feeling in my head that I tried another day in another store which in itself is also a great choice of shoe which I might buy as a daily walker. First and foremost though I am currently looking for a max cushion shoe for home workouts with lots of jumping movements like dance cardio, step aerobic and stuff. I have the feeling my mind is set on keeping the FF more v4 in the neon red color (looks amazing!) and that I can skip trying out the bondi 8. The only thing I prefer about the ff v3 is that (on women's feet) they look smaller and more narrow (given that in running shoes you have to add a size to your normal size anyway which makes it a 42.5 for me!), a little bit neater for extended outside walks now and then whereas with the v4 it looks a bit as if I have Donald Duck feet. The base is wide and the foam spreads out to the sides, that's why. But for my first and foremost purpose of finding a max cushion shoe to protect my knees and feet while doing aerobics I don't think I will find a more comfy shoe than the NB ff more v4. They are like little trampolines beneath your soles. Maybe kofuzi can add his opinion on my findings??
