    Finding this compilation has made my Christmas. Might play this in the grotto this year. This is exactly what makes you warm at Christmas.

    What a beautiful medley of Christmas Carols, to say you were still clutching your 'jamies! Very nice playing. Thanks for sharing your talent on your new toy "Hauptwerk". Please post more awake or not, you're great! Must be something to hear the Salisbury, Willis organ in person! Hopefully one day!
    Merry Christmas and a Happy Prosperous New Year to you and yours!
    Best Regards,
    Roy

    @goodchappy This is a very enojyable performance. The registrations are quite good and so is the sound, especially considering the limitations imposed upon the performance. Keep it up and give us more!

    I just saw the note from John below...I have the free version...you mention they have a Christmas sale??? - I just purchased a used MIDI organ, and I'm using the free version, and would like to upgrade someday, but I can certainly wait for Christmas. I am in the USA - Chicago - and will be ordering from the USA site.

    @organnut Hello and Happy New Year to you!
    Thanks very much for your comments and for "favouriting" my "video".
    Yes Salisbury is a nice place and the Cathedral and setting is inspiring.
    The spire is the tallest in the UK at 404ft.
    If you ever come to the UK, include Salisbury in your visit.
    I believe the Cathedral is actually sitting on a river bed so how it has stayed up for 800 years is amazing.

    Hello, thanks for your interest. The second carol is actually an Advent carol "Come, thou long expected Jesus" to the tune "Cross of Jesus" which is also used at Easter to different words.

    @HONGYOUNGEUN Ideally you do need a console but you can make do with a MIDI keyboard and a MIDI pedal board. All the information can be found on the hauptwerk website.

    @RobCharles1981 Thanks Rob. Its good the base comes across because I was not playing the pedal stops, it is all down to the 16ft stops on the Great and Swell. I am frustrated that they have not brought out the full version of Salisbury Cathedral yet but I am told it will be released in the next 6 months.
    Problem is I only have 12Gig of RAM and the full version with no compression will probably need around 50 Gig! Hope that is not too much technical info, we are here for the music afterall!

    That's a great sound. 1/3 of Salisbury sounds as if it would be more than enough to be going on with! I have the basic free Hauptwerk running on a laptop. If I wanted to have 1/3 of Salisbury Cathedral's organ to play with, could you tell me please what the minimum requirements are. I assume the basic paid-for Hauptwerk at least, but how much RAM would I need? I think my laptop has 5. I find the Hauptwerk website a bit confusing and am not sure if it's possible still to just download 1/3 of Salisbury or what it would cost. Any advice you could give would be much appreciated, thanks.

      John Middx Hi John. This recording was a few years ago. I also did another recording of carols that was an hour and a half long, I would do better now.
      I think it is best to wait till Milan Digital have their Christmas sale so you get 10-15% off sample sets and Hauptwerk. I find having partial sets frustrating and false economy though the full versions can be quite a chunk of dosh!
      My present computer has 32 Gig memory which is just enough for the Salisbury full sample set in best quality setup. I got the fastest CPU I could afford, Intel 3.6 Gig and I use a 1TB Samsung SSD drive. I also use an external ASIO sound card. It is a very deep subject and yes I also find the Hauptwerk website rather confusing. I would have thought by now they could specify exact hardware that they know will work so it is repeatable for people like you and me who just want a working setup without having to experiment and maybe waste money. To date May 12th 2015 all my Salisbury uploads were recorded on my old Windows 7 i7 computer with 12Gig memory but is was not fast enough if more than about half the stops were selected. I hope that helps a bit.

      goodchappy Also if you are in Europe, MAKE SURE you order from the Euro site and not the US site otherwise you may end up paying high import duties for the DVDs that come with the sample sets.

    Hi, thanks for your comment. I do plan to record Eternal Father... I already have an upload of it on my channel but not on this Hauptwerk organ.
    I don't seem to be able to approve comments today, looks like RUclips have messed up again!

  • @Hephaestus65
    @Hephaestus65 9 лет назад

    Also, if I could ask two more questions please -
    1. The software reproduces the sound of the blower for the organ that comes with the free version - it's an interesting idea, but that's taking authenticity to a bizarre level...and besides...the congregation/audience wouldn't hear the blower...no matter how loud the pipes are. When I "turn up" the volume on Hauptwerk, the sound of the blower gets louder as well!!!!
    2. I have a slight delay when playing through the software...is that normal, or is it just a sign I need a faster computer/MIDI interface?
    Thanks!

    • @Goodchappy
      @Goodchappy  9 лет назад

      +Joseph Smith Hi Joseph, I apologise, I did not see your comment till today. I think the more features that Hauptwerk reproduces at least give you the option if you wish. The blower noise is part of the organ and I am usually aware of the blower on a real organ to varying degrees. If you are getting delays, yes you probably need a faster computer and an external ASIO sound card, then set the latency as low as possible so there is no audio break up. Sorry for the very late reply but I think RUclips messes about with things.

  • @Goodchappy

    @snoodify Thanks for your comment. I really was half asleep and in a hurry to get to work when I did this collection.
    Hauptwerk really is unquestionably the best virtual pipe organ there is as long as the sample sets are designed and made properly, in my opinion some of them are lacking something especially when it comes to the singing of each pipe. The Salisbury Cathedral one so far is very good, though I wish they would hurry up and release the whole organ.

    Hi goodchappy, me again. Well, I now also have one third of Salisbury Cathedral's organ! I'm trying to devise nine piston combinations which would serve well for playing Christmas carols, all the way from the first verse of Silent Night to the last verse of O Come All Ye Faithfull. I'm getting beautiful sounds.... but not as good as the ones you've got even in your first carol here. Would love any advice you can give, or example combinations if at all possible. (For use with just one midi keyboard on its own.)

    • @Goodchappy
      @Goodchappy  9 лет назад

      +John Middx Hello John. Thank you for your comments. As you can see this video was 5 years ago so I cannot remember which combinations I used and I had only just purchased the Salisbury sample set, though obviously the stops selected here were not on the Choir or Solo.
      I use an external EMU 1616M sound card which gives good sound and low latency, I don't think it is available now but of course there are alternatives.
      If you have heard my other upload of Christmas Carols made a few years ago ruclips.net/video/FeRjl1D-Koo/видео.html , I can let you know some of the combinations used on there as I still have most of them the same though that was the full Salisbury sample set!
      I am currently building a 4 manual with pedals touch sensitive console with contact-less key switching (Hall effect Devices)...wish me luck!
      I will try to help if I can but am very busy with seriously ill parents at the moment but no harm in asking. :-)

      +goodchappy Thanks for another lightning fast reply! I've actually just turned a 1970s Gem electronic organ into a two-manual Hauptwerk organ with one octave of pedals! I can't claim to have done anything clever, just ripped the old innards out, and laid two second hand midi keyboards on it. The pedals are from an old Hammond, a fiver off eBay! I midi-tised them by buying another second hand midi keyboard from ebay, taking the innards out and wiring the pedals to the printed circuit board contacts where the old keys were!! Works a treat and leaves with with oodles of spare connections for adding pistons to my console if I want to. I've also added Behringer midi footswitches.
      Anyway........ I'll be playing carols at quite few Christmas events, old people's homes, local church etc and intend using one midi keyboard+laptop+amp so am trying to get the best combination of sounds into the nine spare buttons on the midi keyboard. I'm getting super quality sound using 16bit and set to semi-dry, but I have to admit your combinations are markedly superior to the ones I've come up with so far. I'll upload some playing to RUclips soon hopefully so if you get time you can have a quick listen. I'm going to play your video bit by bit and see if I can get similar results on mine.
      Finally... so sorry to hear about your parents, I understand some of what you're going through as I've moved in with my elderly parents, dad's 81 and mum's 84 and has severe dementia. Seems 5 mins ago they were both fit and healthy and themselves looking after others.

      Hi John. I have a 30 note full size pedal board which I no longer want. It is quite old and of a mahogany colour and as it was when it was removed from a church.
      I don't know where you are..Middlesex? The pedal board is at my parents house between Watford and St. Albans. I don't want much for it. It could be sanded down and refurbished but last time I tried, it works. It could quite easily be Midified. let me know if you are interested. years ago when I picked it up, it went into the boot of my small hatchback.

    • @Goodchappy

      P.S. The pedal board is radiating and concave.

    very nice.... how much does this sample set cost..? can it used on a Mac pro computer or the the I pad? Is a sound card needed?

    • @Goodchappy
      @Goodchappy  10 лет назад +1

      Thanks. There are different versions of this sample set. I bought them in stages, mainly because only a third of the organ was available for a while. If you go to the www.hauptwerk.com website, all the information is there. All I can say is that I am very pleased with it and would recommend it if you play the organ or want to learn how to and practice at home.

    @jason1angel @jason1angel Thanks for your comment. I recorded this collection using the built in Hauptwerk recording system.
    I made no other changes to the recording and have not tweaked any of the organ settings so this is how it sounds by default.
    I desperately need to set it up with pedals and more than one manual so I can play it properly.
