Drummer here, i wouldnt say there is one person who is the best drummer ever. It could be said that Danny Carrey is the best drummer with time signatures period... ever. I have seen some drummers that can do stuff with their feet and move faster than anyone i ever heard. But, doesnt mean they can count and handle the time signiatures that Danny can. Hopefully this makes sense :)
It does make sense if you are a musician.
What he does with the polyrhythms and time signatures is beyond masterful.
At least his level, it becomes a matter of personal preference.

Notice the subtle times he DOESN'T strike a drum or cymbal. Art is not just about positive space but about negative space as well. Danny knows when to play....and when not to play in compliment of the music. They are a complete cohesive unit. All amazing in the individual right but when placed together...pure ethereal music.
