The white one sounds more crunchy to me. At first I couldn’t tell the difference but when my eyes are closed I can tell that the Viper’s got more crunch. Thanks for this video.
Hey mate, My daughter purchased ltd eclipse 256 white with those open core pick-ups. I actually find the pick ups extremely bright. Your video really highlighted that sound and its clear the pick ups sound that way due to being open, much better sound in my opinion with the metal covers. Funny thing My daughter was undecided between a purple one and the white one Eventually decided on the white one with the open pick ups. Kinda wish she went the other way now. And really cuts through the mix nice and clear. She also had a prs se 24 standard and the pick ups in that are warmer and muddy sounding. And also are open core pick ups. My guitars, I have an explorer with emg 81s in the bridge 85s in the neck. And a epiphone les paul custom cantrell wino with the new 98t in the neck. Both sound amazing.
Well it sounds like your daughter and you don't have the same taste in pickups :) When I was younger I was into very bright sounds as well but in time things have changed. She's got 2 very good guitars anyway ! Is your explorer a Gibson or an ESP LTD ?
Great video The difference is there, for sure, but the cover doesn't make the LH150 sound bad by any means. I'd say it's a matter of preference, of whether you like a more front-and-center sound or a fuller one.
I agress that, for rhythms, they could have more bit. But for creamy leads, they're really good. Now, with the Het Set, you'll have enough punch to knock Mike Tyson out !
@@ToroKchannel have the Het Set installed for two days now. The bridge sound is freaking awesome, crystal clear. The neck sounds full... perfect match with the EC256.
@@collectingtengu4905 How does it work putting active pickups on a passive guitar, you just throw the battery holder in there? And another question the coil tap is gone right? I ask this because i have a EC256 and i feel that they are a bit noisy and they lack the punch? Im honestly intriged. And How the wire diagram worked on it?
@Scall yes, the battery is inside the control cavity. You can ask a guitar shop to install an extra battery compartment. You are right the coil tapping is gone. That sacrifice is gladly done for that amazing sound you will have with the Het Set.
As you can see in the plan of the video, I play the guitars alone from 04:50 on. I play them with some hi gain rhythm, then on some lead tones and finally on clean tones.
IMHO The open bridge pickups have a more scathing and edgy sound. More modern, good for metal. And the les paul has a bridge sound more like a neck position, more retro. Better suited for rock or rock'n'roll. Not for metal
I have the LTD Viper 256. Compare to my Epi SG400 EMG, sure that the viper needs more gain in the amplification unit to have a good shredding distortion to play metal. But i think they are good pickups anyway.
Emgs are active so they have more output, I highly recommend getting seymour dunvcan black winter for the viper 256, it is passive but has the attack and output of emg, but it is more dynamic.
The goal of this video is to compare the same pickups with or without metal cover, and of course, I'm using the same EQ for both guitars. The pickups with metal cover sound a bit darker, but noone ever said you had to change the pickups. But I'm happy for you that you now what an EQ is, I'm pretty sure everybody is happy for you and your parents are certainly proud !
@@ToroKchannel wasnt criticing you dude, just makes me laugh how people are so keen to waste money on after market pick ups when justa few seconds with screw driver changes the tone completly! or a parametric eq for that matter.
@@ToroKchannel 😮😮😮 what an amazing riff !!! I love it ! You could be a great compositor man !! and about the downpicking, you could replace James Hetfield ☺
@@katsu395 bon du coup je sais plus s'il faut que je te réponde en anglais ou en français ;) Never mind ! Well thanks a lot for your appreciation about my track, I really do appreciate a lot :) About downpicking I wish I could play as fast as Papa Het but, nope, he's way faster than I am - but I keep trying !

The crunchiness is because the viper seems to have little more low mids on about 500hz.
The covered pickups sound a little bit darker, for sure.
The covered pickup sounds a little bit more scooped, the bridge pick up on the viper seems to have a bump at about 500-700hz.

I wonder if under the metal cap looks like the open coil such as the stock pickups on the infamous ibanez mtm2
Good question but I won't go and search for the answer of my own guitars :)
I have the EC256 and use the LH150. Sometimes I miss a bit of a punch from them, when playing. I am about to swap to EMG Het Set.

Ceramic
Open slightly brighter
Creo que la humbucker normal suena mejor, la lh 150 suena más a "mosquito" jijijiji !!
I see your point :) but both are LH 150 so I think the one you prefer is the one with a metal cover, do you ?
