I love Darkest Hour, they were fronting for As I Lay Dying 15-18 years ago or something when I watched them perform live in Stockholm Sweden. I had not heard much from them before that gig but I remember to this day clearly when they started with that "With a thousand words to say but one" with that long intro that got the crowd hyped up and wild before their chaos riffing started and everybody was jumping around haha, really good stuff =) Since I am a guitarist myself I really enjoy such guitar heavy/focused metal like Darkest Hour plays. They have such amazing riffs and melodies on their guitars that the rest of the music seems to be centered around, I just love it =)
I didn't find them until Undoing Ruin..absolutely banger, play-all-the-way through album. Of course had to go back and get So Sedated, So Secure. Back when CDs were the top music source.
Yeah, seriously. Like hours listened I think they have it for me and that's not intentional. It just happens. Like I just jumped on this DH train on RUclips to hear Terra Solaris again cause it was stuck in my head. The instrumental from, fuck a decade plus ago, was stuck in my head haha.

The production on this track is a benchmark, John’s pitched vocals continue to be the best example of the blended styles of melodic DM and hardcore, Nico’s modern embellishments in the solo, and beyond that - the callback to highly illustrative artwork for the album all stick out to me as being very positive momentum for metalcore. Maybe not at face value, but they are doing all of the important things right imo

It's just riding the momentum . They've got the recipe for their sound on lock, but we've all heard this before.

It's amazing how a band can evolve with each album and still maintain the integrity of their sound. I've loved this band for 20 years and they have NEVER disappointed me.

The Human Romance is the "worst" for me. Sounded super watered-down and formulaic in comparison to their other records. To be fair to you, I'm honestly not trying to troll you for your comment, but just create conversation. When I listen to Darkest Hour, I really don't hear them as a metalcore band. I've always found it difficult to put a label on their sound. It doesn't sound like metalcore to me. The riffs have an At The Gates kind of flavor, but the overall sound is not quite Melodic Death Metal. It's definitely not your traditional Death Metal sound. It's just a good mixture of different genres and styles that come together into one cohesive sound. Most bands that mix different styles sound gimmicky, in my opinion, but Darkest Hour truly pulls it off. That's what makes them special, in my opinion. No tired breakdowns, no trends. Just fast, melodic riffing, excellent guitar solos, a unique vocalist that is hard to label, and a truly unique groove. I've always loved Darkest Hour. They're great.

Great song. The chorus gives me an Undoing Ruin vibe, the solo/sweeps feel like The Eternal Return-esque, and the rest of the song feels like something from Deliver Us. A cool mix

I am absolutely stunned and stoked to find out y'all are still around! The 10 seconds or so of Sound the Surrender in a commercial for some mix-tape style cd set used to haunt me in college in like 2004 😅. I lost track of a lot of the bands I listened to around 2015, and it's awesome to see how many are still around now (and I have an entirely new album to find it looks, which is even better!)
