- When Deep Purple reformed in 1984 for the Perfect Strangers tour, the band's first shows were in Australia. Deep Purple's shows were actually recorded and the first show in Sydney has been released on DVD.
This performance of the classic Purple track "Speed King" was recorded on the 13th December 1984. The band are on fire...check out the musicianship and communication in the breakdown and Richie leading a question and answer session with the Organ and Vocals - amazing!!
Never, ever gonna see improvisation like that again. Deep Purple Mark 2 were utterly stunning musicians.

Giorgio seriously. Deep Purple are recognised all over the world. They were one of the biggest bands on the planet, along with Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin in the 70's. Nothing could touch these guys.
They broke up when they were at their peak they were the number 1 band in the land n only sir ritchie Blackmore keep them where there not missing a beat🥁 🎸🎤🎛️🎛️🎛️🎛️🎛️🎙️🎵
Mine too and has been since - forever and will always be. Number One rock band, the best band on the planet. No one, can ever compete with Gillan, Lord, Paice, Glover and Blackmore; the definition of a really, really GREAT band. BEST of all time, Period!!!!

Lord stayed, yes of course, but yet, no Deep Purple without The Great Ritchie Blackmore. No disrespect to Mr. Jon Lord,, I love you Jon Lord and miss you EVERY day, R.I.P. Mr. Jon Lord, you are SO missed! But call the band Deep Purple, not for any hard core fan. MK II, that´s Deep Purple, even though they were still pretty good with MK III (Hughes and Coverdale), but in ´75 when Blackmore left, no Deep Purple.

The best band in history! Talent level is too high to compare to any musician outside Gillan, Blackmore, Lord, Glover and Paige! Thanks DP! Still listening to all your great music 54 years now.

When they was on form there was no better band, had the joy of seeing them many times.
I love it when Ritchie launches into the Burn riff in the middle of the song.

Even if this was the only video Deep Purple has saved, it is enough to show the quality of the ape, the talent and the amount this band has influenced music in general. Unique really !!!

The band was on absolute fire during this period! As energetic as they were in the early 70's, but with a step up in their technical skills.

The back and forth between Lord and Blackmore was awesome. They did this at the show I saw them at in Honolulu in 85. Incredible show. My ears rang for two weeks afterwards.

I saw this in 1985 in Stockholm. Purple was here for 3 nights and I saw two of them. After the first concert Gillan and Glover came out to us and signed my Deep Purple t-shirt. I still have it!
Johan, jag såg dem i Malmö och 1 konsert i Stockholm. Det var i en 21 årings liv det absolut största som hänt efter Led Zeppelin på Knebworth augusti 79. Efter dessa 2 konserter har jag sett dem säkert 10 gånger o det närmsta 85 var faktiskt konserten i Köpenhamn, tror det var 93. Sista med Blackmore som jag såg. Därefter har jag sett ok men.....de är gamla nu :) Fast, jag har köpt till nu i september o Göteborg. Håll i din t-shirt, den är förmodligen värd en krona eller 2 nu! Rock on!
I saw them as well, two of three concerts, saw them on friday and saturday. Great is not the right word. What a performance, to this day I have never, ever experienced anything like that. Have seen Rainbow earlier, but this was something else. AWESOME!!!! Roger Glover has pointed out later that those three shows were among their best gigs, at least on that tour, The Reunion tour 84/85. They were really on fire those nights in Stockholm Sweden, after that weekend, I was like dazed for weeks. Have loved that band since I first started listening to music and this is the number one band for me. Saw Deep Purple once again in ´87, two shows, one in Stockholm and later that year on a big stadium in Oslo/Norway, great, but ´85, that was magic, pure magic.
I was there at the Sydney entertainment centre 2 nights in a row , i will never forget it !

Lord’s influence on metal guitar players is under appreciated imho. The fast shredding legato licks and heavy bass of his organ/amp combo really made that band.

It is the ability by excellent musicians to perform high quality live-gigs with big parts of improvisation.

I was at the 2nd reformation gig 12 days before this one, in Adelaide. Amazing show, incredible atmosphere & energy. The band had a lot of fun, too.
Well Deep Purple were the 1st rock band I got into in my teens/20's. Then got into Sabbath, Zeppelin, Scorpions.... all fantastic bands. I forgot how good a guitarist RB was/is. I thought Iommi and Page were good..... Been listening to DP a lot lately... Ritchie is exceptional. What a band, God on drums, God on Bass, God on organ, God on guitar and Jesus singing...... and I'm not religious but wow

I bought a dvd PERFECT STRANGERS LIVE as well as a Japanese release as it has HIGHWAY STAR as a bonus. It would be fantastic if the other two Sydney concerts were officially released !!!!!!!

i noticed that Blackmore likes to play this kind of lick when playing live (5:03 to 5:06) & (5:56). He does it on Highway star live at sydney too, the lick just after the 2nd verse. Another example would be in Gypsy Kiss also at sydney where Gillan wears a red vest, 10 seconds before Gillan sings, Blackmore does that super fast lick. Does anyone know what scale he uses for that kind of descending lick?

I have to say that Deep purple has always been one of my most favorite bands. I would say in this order of favorite bands are Beatles, Deep purple, Uriah Heep, Steppenwolf, etc.....
I agree ! I always preferred Deep Purple over Led Zeplin, and yet I am a big fan of Zep !
