The M10 is the only camera the JPEG that come out of the box need no further transformation! The M10 is by far the most naturally generating pics camera.
Justin you are the most truthful person on RUclips. Sending love all the way from Nepal brother. Your videos are just gems in this vast pool of RUclips. I really appreciate the time and great effort you put on to make your videos as informative as possible and that additional touch of fun just comes naturally from you. Keep up the awesome work brother. And really looking forward for Local Calls.
The rangefinder is the main reason I own this camera. Personally modern cameras with EVFs annoy me with the information overload in the finder and I can't stand wrangling autofocus modes and points. The shallow depth of field and sometimes "looking though a porthole" thing you get with other cameras very distracting. Manual focus on autofocus cameras is slow, I don't wanna have to punch in every time or rely on ugly peaking (which often isnt that accurate). I love picking it up and seeing the world with a holographic frame line overlayed on it, you can see outside the frame, quickly line up the double image and you're good. I never use the spot meter with it because it opens the shutter and you get the same tiny bit of lag when shooting, like when doing live view. I just use the averaging meter that uses the grey tones on the shutter and set the EV to -.3 or -.7 to preserve the highlights. This camera has really robust DNGs as long as you don't clip.
I own a M9, M240, and a M10, and to my eyes, the M9 photos are the best as far as colors, then comes the M240, and last the M10, which I find rather bland relative to the previous M models. I am contemplation selling the M10 and use the $ on lenses. On the M10 to get good colors I have set white balance to 5800K on sunny days, otherwise the JPEGs are very flat. The M240 has awesome film simulations, which the M10 doesn't have, not sure why Leica omitted this feature. I am a JPEG shooter, just like film, once you take a photo that's it, you either get the proper exposure and colors, or you don't. For customers I shoot RAW.
Totally agree with the colours. I still use the M8 and M9-P. No need for upgrades. They also blend in very well with the Hasselblad H2 to H4 backs with the Kodak CCDs. Editing the colours can't be quicker and more satisfying.
Awesome camera ! I recently got into the leica system with a used leica SL 601 and i absolutely love it. Gonna save up some money this year to eventually buy the M10 on the used market
What resonates with me about your interests and photography is the transferable nature of the job. Taking photos helps you capture moving images better. My eyes are set on a Fuji Xt30ii as BTS photography for productions and travel documentation. Much success on your travels and series.
Awesome to hear about the new channel ! I started in stills photography and then gradually changed to moving pictures and it's a blast to see people that i admire experimenting with still photography! I carry a Nikon L35af as my EDC camera and i absolutely love it, highly recommend ! I also love shooting kodak 500t, 250d and gold 200 on it, the photos comes out super nice and it's a super small and fun camera to use :)
I really enjoyed the video, Justin. Thanks for sharing. I'm in the market for an M10, my first Leica, so I'm glad I came across this while I was doing some research. Looking forward to seeing what you share next!
11:40 i have the Zeiss oVF and eVF of my Sony RX1r for that exact same reason as well, the sony's actually also tilt like that visoflex, its just a tad bigger than the oVF and i cant rely on the AF of the RX1r nearly as well as you did with the RX1rii.
LOLOL, I always loved how the Ricoh viewfinders look like a tiny CRT TV on top of the camera. I love the second channel concept, just subed. I also just started a doc project that I'll be detailing over on my channel. Working with one of the people we interviewed might also spawn a horror film project, lol... Keep it real bro, don't change, forget the masses.
Great video, you should really check out the M10D. I have both the M10D and M10R and even without using live view on the battery last significantly longer on the M10D when I compare the 2. It is great battery life though, I usually carry an extra but it's rare I've ever needed it. Most of the times I've used the second battery it was because I was using the Visoflex which I only tend to do when shooting with my 75 or 90 wide open and need critical focus or when I'm using a lens that doesn't have coupling for the range finder. I also use the Kamerakraft plate/grips on mine which also make it possible to store an extra memory card and can swap the battery without pulling the plate off.
Is that the 40mm Summicron from the Leica CL? That was my first Leica lens and it's a BRILLIANT vintage lens in terms of size and style. That lens is a real IYKYK gem. Pro-Tip: If you want to add a better rangefinder style lens hood to it, there's a special filter thread adapter (the thread pitch is weird and nonstandard).
Love the M10 and chose it over the M11...I don't need 60mps, I can print large with the M10's 24mp. Do not care for a touch screen, though I realize I can turn it off. I am happy with the bottom plate design having come from years of the M9. Less is more. It's a preference.
Nice review in general. Seems like I also have the same colourblind issue with you but did you find the LED on the bottom readout inside the OVF hard to read sometimes in darker scenes?
Hi just saw your Minolta lens guide, fantastic! However you mention that the MC 100mm 2.5 but with 6 rows of knurled bumps, but there are PF and Tele? Which is better? And also I noticed that there were a lot of other lens with PF as opposed to PG? I’d be grateful if you could clarity, great videos though!
PF vs PG is the number of elements. So the PG version has one extra element. Could be a better performer (technically) but will also add weight and size.
Yea, that was actually my original motive for getting the Leica M8, because of the IR pollution, so people say it’s the “poor mans” monochrom. But idk, black and white is cool, but sometimes im not always into it.
I just loved your video. I have the eaxct same camera as you and completely agree with your assessment of it. I feel very lucky to have made that decision to go for it about a year ago. Colours are stunning.
This channel is so good. Passion, indepth knowledge explained simple, even this video has some tips and tricks (like 3200/5000 wb setting). Much better than neverending gear reviews and merch promos, no " I've been to Iceland" shit and "we are so cool" culture. Never stop.
the biggest issue with that workflow (for me): No Leica M10 profile, and the issue with DNG files importing as one long video file, so all your photos back to back like a super fast slideshow, which requires more editing. then the export issue with color space tags & resolution. Not to mention resolve is catered toward video aspect ratios and not photography
Look man when people wanna lean in on one thing that you do it’s ridiculous because cinematography compliments photography as photography, complements cinematography. If people want to not subscribe to you, bye have a good day. You always bring positive energy Justin.
Gotta love it when people feel the need to announce that they are unsubscribing or leaving an online community. I mean if you feel the need to unsubscribe, depart from a forum or whatever then just do it, no need to announce it.. main character syndrome.
One main reason photographers like the M10 over the M11 is the megapixels. 24mp sensors tend to be less digital in the end result. It`s a matter of opinion but I shoot with a Leica MD 262 and the images from the SD card to computer are simply amazing...!
I have to say i feel the guy's statement at the end: "We are all shooting the same bleep". Everything is just recycled garbage, things are overdone, we have seen it all, very few stand out in this era. The "greats" are usually just people with the right connections. I watch a channel here on youtube where some dude is just walking around with high end camera gear, testing this and that, just casually strolling around Shanghai where he just films everything, walking, maybe going into an alley here and there, always a different setting.. relaxing content.. and in one of his recent videos there is this cherry blossom festival and everyone there were taking pictures of the flowers.. just an ocean of people doing the exact same thing. I thought to myself that the phenomenon of all those people photographing the exact same thing was a more interesting moment to capture. Those trees will look exactly the same in about a years time.
Yupp. Funny enough now even a photograph of a group of photographers taking the same picture has become cliché as well. I think Winogrand was the first guy to take a shot like that. A bunch of photographers and random people point their cameras to the sky.
Justin it sounds like Red disappointed you a lot but I am disappointed coz I was almost going to start Red cameras and now I am not sure I'll have a Red camera kit. Its such an informative youtube ch with your open and free discussion on issues I learnt a lot and still I do. Waiting to see your new photography ch soon.
I prefer the m10 over the m11. If you compare it to a car sometimes a chassis has a sweet spot for horsepower. After using film m cameras the m11 and the m10. I have found the sweet spot for resolution in a 35mm handheld camera is about 30ish mega pixels. All the resolution with no ibis just changes the dynamics of the camera. I think the SL makes more sense with a super high res sensor because it’s supposed be somewhat of a Swiss army workhorse. The Modern M is a different proposition. I honestly think they should put a super low light Capable 24mp sensor in the next m. They could even use the sensor from the sl2-s
Nice! Yea that would be awesome. But yea the no ibis combined with that much resolution def i can see being an issue. Especially for a camera designed for street

okay, well let's do this then. Let's go meet out on a street at night time, you bring your M8, and i'll bring the M10. No flash allowed. and we'll see who gets the better or not even better, but we'll see who gets the USABLE photo.
It's all creative image-making at the end of the day and f whoever acts like the content doesn't crossover or there's nothing to be learned from one or the other. If you want super crisp modern lenses there's so many choices, but if you want crazy vintage or exotic glass there's amazing options there too from Leica, Voigtlander, MS Optics, and Zeiss. The M11 sensor is not a Sony sensor. It is a sensor exclusively produced for Leica from a Belgium company.
Brooo you being real is the best! Stoked on the Doc!

There are tools to 6 bit code your lenses by yourself. It's basically a 3d printed mask and you use a sharpie type of pen.
