You can also see the Iowa State Fair Grandstand projected on the guy in the scene just before. The band is originally from Iowa. Not sure how it relates to the meaning of the song. This song seems to be about trying and failing to find relief in religion. "I'll never kill myself to save my soul" means that to be accepted by the religion, he would have to remove pretty much everything about himself that makes him unique. It would be such a total destruction of his sense of self, that it would be equivalent to killing himself. And even the promises of eternal life and "salvation" aren't worth it. Supposedly there are references to Buddhism and Islam as well as Christianity in the words he chose. It seems like he's tried them all, but all he ends up doing is reaching out for God to fix his problems and finding that God's hand is his hand--and he has to do it himself. And disappointment after disappointment has "killed the saint in him" or the part that even wants to try to be religious at all.

Hell runs cold reminds me of supernatural where Lucifer, being an arch angel, blows on the glass and it turns to ice and says "for some reason people think i run hot, weird right?" Also, you should check out some live stuff. Ill have to look it up again, but in one of their shows they broke a record of most people kneeling at once at any show. Sure your like... 'why were they kneeling?' exactly. gotta watch it. straight nuts.
