Makes perfect sense that this is the song Corey would cover. Calling out hypocrites has always been one his favorite subjects to write/sing about.
I think it’s also just a damn good tune. One of my favourites on the Black album along with God that Failed.

@@ttluvly1 I think he was wrong in saying that (though I do think slipknot did have more fillers on their albums than before). But, Corey is hyper, doesn't want to be bored and needs to keep creating to keep himself from doing bad things. But I don't agree with your last sentence. Kirk is just someone who throws some wah solos in there. If Mustaine was still there, sure. But a mediocre drummer and a guy that cannot live without his wah.. Hetfield will be fine. I'm not even a huge metallica fan, but we take this man for granted. Hetfield is the god of riffs and metal today. There is no band out there that did not get inspired by this guy's riffs. When he dies, people will get jealous you got to see him live. Slipknot is fucking awesome as a band, but the actual guitarriffs themselves are not memorable. Riffs that James came up with? Cannot name anyone that singlehandedly changed a whole fucking genre with his guitarplaying.
@@skeletonmodel what about Jeff Hanneman in regards to influential riffs for metal? Or were you just referring to Living guitarists? I feel like Jeff was at least as good/influential if not better than James but that’s just my opinion, no shade at James he kills it.
The Whiplash outro is proof that he was a fan of MetallicA from the 80's/90's. That was a staple of their live shows, pure energy.
Corey just needs to put a cover album out of songs he grew up and that molded who he is it would be a masterpiece
Hey, that’s not a bad idea, actually. The guy can sing like obviously (as does James Hetfield and Serj Tankian the singer in System of a down) and he’d do really well. His vocals are well developed and are broad 🎤💖

Honestly, there's a few, but none that are quite as good as his. For instance, I do enjoy listening to Volbeat's cover and Royal Blood's is quite alright even if it isn't anything amazing in my opinion.

Actually I don’t like his tone after the first Slipknot album and first few songs of Iowa I feel like he sounds the same on every song just a yelling tone not a real musician IMO.

Corey's voice is perfect for metallica songs. This song got a different power in his voice.
This is one of the best covers I’ve heard. Even all the sounds of the instruments are close to the original, with a modern spin.
As a big Metallica fan, and a fan of Corey, fkn well done!

Corey is Corey and James is James! Both are amazing! Both have their style! Let them be themselves! Love for both!!! I love Slipknot and Metallica!
If James ever needs an interim vocalist (if he’s out for injury or illness). Corey is the one.
This song is one of the standouts in the whole compilation simply for being closest to the original track. I love what other people have done to these songs in reinterpreting them (especially The Neptunes and Flatbush Zombies) but something about the purity of sticking to the basic formula that makes the song a song is special if you can pull it off.

i gotta disagree respectfully. Metallica has been acing this song on and off stage for years now, and what is especial about this blacklist for me is to be able to listen to different artists' different versions. take "volbeat's don't tread on me" as an example. its not that far from the original, but with tasteful altercations which i absolutely loved!
I personally think that if a cover is to be made, it should be faster, heavier, and more catchy than the original. If the cover is like a "toned down version" it easily ends up being bland and boring. I think "Black" is very difficult album to cover. And this is just my opinion, I know that some people like to hear totally different renditions.

@@hmico457 It really depends on the musicians and their skill level! I mean, most covers that I've done end up being heavier lol, but sometimes, a good, softer interpretation brings out depth and meaning of songs too.
I love how he doesn't stray far! He has just enough of Hetfield in his voice, like he doesn't sound like he's tryna copy, but he has that same vibe and energy! Corey, you are amazing 👏🏼

It WAS a commercial album. Have you heard Master of Puppets? and Justice for All? The Black album is WAY different and it was Metallica's way of breaking into the mainstream and it worked and it was brilliant.

This is a great cover with great vocals. With that said... youre right. As good as these vocals are.. I can hear bits and pieces of other vocalists while Corey sings, very common. James.... I dont hear many who sing like James and dont hear any other singers in James' voice when he sings. Dude has always had great vocals for his music..
This is the best cover from the whole Metallica Blacklist.
Before this dropped Weezer, Volbeat and Miley Cyrus were the best things going. I had huge hopes for this being great and was not disappointed.
I really liked the Volbeat one, but this one is better. 🤘

Slipknot has been my favourite band since 99. None of my friends were ever into Slipknot and my parents were always super strict so I never got to see them. A couple of years ago they were supposed to play with Metallica and I finally bought tickets . But Metallica cancelled because James went to rehab. Then covid hit! I fuckin missed out 😭
@@natbarron ... Yes! They played Rocklahoma. It was their first time on stage in 18 months and Corey was wearing his new mask! I still feel like a giggling teenage girl. I can remember hearing their demo Coleslaw randomly and wanting more.
I was in a really bad wreck in November 2009. Depression sunk in while I was stuck in bed for a month. My then 16 year old son brought my CD player to the living room, where I was hanging out while I was bedbound, and put in a Slipknot CD. I know it's cliche but Slipknot helped save my life. I'd envision my body healing to their music, and I set myself a goal of being able to go see them.
When you have the chance to see them live... GO!!
