  • What do you think of the condition of this tractor?
    One of the stars at the 2018 Lebanon Valley indoor classic tractor expo was this 1917 International Harvester "slope nose" Model 8-16. Classic Tractor Fever Host Brian Baxter caught up with owner Elmer Gockley who shared the history and how he came to own this over 100 year old tractor in beautiful original condition.

    He was really forward thinking when he saved it back in the 50's, almost no one thought twice about keeping any of that old iron.

    Amazing to see a tractor that old still running in mostly original condition. Farming has changed a lot over 100 years.

      Conspiracy Scholor change happens, not all of us agree with all of the changes. I moved off the family farm almost 30 years ago, we were small and behind the times then.

    Cool tractor, cool guy, and a GREAT attitude about things made in the USA !!!! If more people would buy products made here, we would be a lot better off as a Country !

    Thanks, Elmer, that is a piece of American history. My Dad had a 1928 F12, but unfortunately it was destroyed in a barn fire in the 80's.

      Built in the usa and Canada is something I always look for when I buy tooling. But I have also found Sweden, Germany, Poland and allot of other places make really good tools aswell!

      Back before I moved to the USA I was in Ireland and we had Farmalls and Oliver tractors. Our neighbor cross the road had a Belarus Tractor made in Belarussia, great machines all of them!

      Not so much anymore. Every country builds better shit then the USA does. 70% of our shit is made in other countries.
      The keyboard you used is made in China. The screen, china too. The mobo in your computer was probably built by a Tai lady in a bikini

    A marvellous piece of equipment and an important part of the evolution of tractors. The tractors of today would have been seen as impossible as landing a man on the moon.

    I like antique tractor that look like a locomotive with enclosed cab and all metal wheel. They are still horseless machinery that run on its own power without the horse or horses.

    I just put a handle on a pitchfork that must be at least from that time. It looks like cast iron, four tines and is somewhat small. I use it to turn over a small compost station (pitchforks are not actually good for leaves since it pokes thru and the leaves stick, but it is better than a shovel and is good enough for what I'm doing).

    I see IH...I like.
    Only IHs I own though are 4 Scouts (1x '62 runs//drives...1x 69-70 800A rotten but runs...1x late-80 early-800 is a good rolling body...1 is rolling 60%+ 800 shell) + a Loadstar 1600.

    So Mr. Gockley builds a garage for his tractors, and then his wife says “nope, I’m parking my car in there,” and that’s perfectly fine in this society…? Pretty messed up, in my opinion.

      @@om617yota8 : No, it's perfectly idiotic. His wife clearly has no respect for an irreplaceable piece of American history. So typical of women nowadays. Anything that has survived 100+ years needs to be preserved at best as it possibly can be. Her precious "car" that will be basically worthless scrap in 10 - 15 years belongs OUTSIDE, unless there is extra available space inside. God bless Elmer, but he's a chump for letting her call the shots on this one.
