  • ...the rugged Sierra Nevada is a challenge to traverse and has been for hundreds of years. During the 1940s, one could watch as Southern Pacific Cab Forwards and Black Widows pulled heavy loads up the steep grades. Does 3DTrainstuff's adaptation of it bring this to a new era of railroading through Microsoft Train Simulator?

    I also bought this right when it came out and never looked back. It's probably my favorite of all the add-on routes I have and the locomotive's and rolling stock are superb. Definatly a class A++ route.

    This route man, this is the top of my list of favorite train simulator routes of all time, this includes all other sims too.
    It has aged a bit compared to some others, but it's the most authentic recreation of Southern Pacific transition era, or Donner Pass in any era I have ever seen.
    By the way, for those of you wondering, no his comment about performance does not stand today, I can testify as a man with a broken graphics card whose computer can only preform the most menial of tasks, the route runs fine, it may be taxing for a 2009-era PC, but anything worth using today should be able to easily at least get smooth frames.
    By the way, in addition to the two[three] official expansions that include new locomotives(Storm of 52 and both of the cadillac packs), you could also get the Vintage Trains over Tehachapi and use the locomotive variations for pre-war trains and helpers, for those of us who like to explore the route and make up our own scenarios.

    I used to do it too 'cause it does look so much more epic. They did however double-head passenger trains with them so keep thaqt in mind when you put together express consists.

    unfortuantely that's true. both route's are being developed for MSTS. As far as I know, 3DTS does not plan to do content for RS.

    BTW great video man, I have this route and can honestly it was well worth the money. I agree with you the steam locomotives both the consolidations and the cab forwards are awsome. its a real shame that only one cab forward still survives today. but for the route all I can say is AWSOME.

    after watching more thurowly thru the vid, I noticed something that is inacurate(other then the cab forward tank engine) In frieght service, SP never double-feaded Cab Farwards due to their power ripping apart drawbars.

    Great review! I've had this route since it first came out in 2005 and it's still one of my favorites. As you said, the cab forwards are great and in my opinion, worth the price of the route all by themselves. I am a bit surprised to see no mention of the 2 expansion packs "Storm 0f 1952" and "The End of a Era". Do you plan on doing a follow up about these later on?

  • @JJRB26

    only on passenger trains. I've watched countless documentries on the engines and all the historians say the same thing, only on passnger due to aging carsand extremely powerful engines.

    • @jackboerner1901
      @jackboerner1901 8 лет назад +1

      +Christopher Mc Elroy I think is was actually 1862 to 1866, keeping in mind the summit tunnel was completed in two years

    • @trainknut
      @trainknut 5 лет назад +1

      @@jackboerner1901 the route opened in 1868, Donner Itself was indeed completed in 1866, but as the trains had nowhere to go yet, it wasn't exactly booming with traffic.

    Dude, your fair use disclaimer is completely bogus. Reviewing the music would be fair use; using the music as a background to a review of something else is not.

    • @trainknut
      @trainknut 7 лет назад +1

      He's using the music to enhance and alter his own product, the use of music in a video with commentary and footage over it does not harm the sales or the reputation of the owners of the music, the whole system on RUclips here is bogus, while it claims to be an automated copyright system, it's more just to create a monopoly for channels like Vemo which own all the popular music.
      In my opinion(and feel free to disagree) is that music should have a different set of rules to movies, yes obviously if somebody uploads a full song specifically to make money off it, or to detract from the original, that's different and should be dealt with as it always has been... however because music is such a staple and essential part of pop-culture, I feel like artists should be allowed to make use of music in good taste to enhance their art, without permission or threat of copyright lawsuits.
      In other words, the royalty-free versions of iconic songs and tunes you see in RUclips videos and TV shows nowadays is really fucking annoying, and I wish they could just use the real music they're clearly trying to represent.
      His fair use disclaimer is bogus, he shouldn't even need it... not like a disclaimer would actually help against automated bots, a disclaimer would only work for a human watching the video, but bots which just scan the audio for matches in an archive won't notice or care about the disclaimer.
