I don't know if we ever moved forward from it, the rise of wish taught the normies of my generation (older Gen z/younger millennials) all about cheap Chinese stuff, and has totally ruined most online shopping. Amazon has been a total trainwreck for like 5-8 years now
some of the prices on there they want for the item they are trying to sell is crazy like a 4k gaming stick for $80 same one can be bought from aliexpress for like 15-18usd
This is the thing I had to learn with Reddit and RUclips with individual channels, is that half a feed of content you stay on the app for worth the half that is garbage? Is it half a feed or a quarter? a third? Just something to keep in mind.

They even have localized versions. On German Tiktok they were coming up in masses and even promoting their products in the style of: "F you, you tagged sony and nintendo so much under our posts that they now want to sue us. Nothing is illegal, the games are legal" Which is pretty funny, as they obviously aren't allowed to sell these things with ROMs preloaded...
I remember seeing one try that tactic with crappy AirPods cleaners, it kept teasing to not tag Apple or else they would be legally forced to sell off the patent so they could charge their own “premium” price on them since that’s the stereotype with Apple (remember that $999 Pro Stand?). They REALLY were trying to promote it as some super advanced thing when it was just brushes and bristles lmao

I bought a set from Aliexpress and they work fine but they're nowhere near the quality of the originals. I might try swapping out the thumbsticks for some better ones at some stage.
I've seen a few ads for low end handhelds that claim they can play games that they clearly can't by showing sped up footage. You can obviously tell because the game is shown running at regular speed but the thumbs are moving like the flash lol

I think about this daily. I brought it up in the sbc subreddit and people were arguing that this wasn’t scamming and its essentially the consumers fault for overpaying and not doing the research.
Ali Express is what i would consider the most 'real' of these chineese sites, i get alot of the same products for cheaper and alot of products not sold anywhere else or as convenient.
What's funny is that ad on twitter you talked about probably lost it's ability to make revenue. Corrected tweets can't make money if I remember correctly.
The saddest part is.. there are plenty of great indie creators trying to sell on TikTok, and they're getting drowned out by the scammers and drop-shippers. =( And unless TT bans dropshipping, it will only get worse.
We might have a real problem if these handheld emulator companies advertise on TikTok and say point-blank that these devices come preloaded with games they don't have the legal authority to sell along with the product.

It turns out my country was somehow set to Canada and after switching to US, most of my feed is sponsored posts, commission posts, TikTok shop ads, or older videos that I've already seen and/or liked. I'm considering switching it back to Canada 😅
