First Mods for our 2022 Toyota GR86!

- Our goal for this build is to turn it into a fantastic weekend warrior with JDM parts and inspiration! We're starting off with some Cusco carbon fiber strut tower bars and Verus Engineering engine bay caps to clean things up. Very nice! I should have watched this as i do with alot of your content prior to purchasing a grimmspeed cylinder brace. Struggled with it only to realize the line issue. Good to know this is integrated with the bar!

The hanger on the package is definitely for store use. When I was there I went into a Super Autobacs store and they have Cusco strut tower bars hanging in one of the aisles.
It's been too long since I've been to Super Autobacs! I just remember them having USDM spec parts which made me laugh because we want JDM spec parts over here.
I love this channel man… its the only consistent channel who shows love to this beautiful car…. This car will definitely be iconic in the future because how simple and beautiful it is man keep giving us updates and new mods on the video man you are pioneering the way for mods on this specific car and i plan to have one myself by next year man all love ❤️

Thanks for figuring out how to modify the all seat rear mat :-) I just installed Cusco bars in my GR86 this weekend and didn't want to slaughter the rubber mat lol.

I always contemplated getting the matching rear sway bar because I threw on the front Cusco bar on my frs and loved the difference it made. I was only hesitant on the decision for the rear because many forums say that rear sway bars for rwd cars aren’t necessary and if anything affects the traction since power is delivered to the rear and stiffening the rear chassis may affect that
You won't notice a difference in power delivery with the strut bars. They do stiffen up the chassis a bit, but it's not a massive difference.
I’m honestly excited to see the progression of this car given your first gen is very well set up from what Ive seen. I’m curious how the two compare long term

Honest opinion, for those who loves the look, this is absolutely amazing. The CF strut bar blends in with the engine bay.
However, my biggest concern about the twins are the body roll. Which I don't think strut bars address this issue better than swaybars. Strut bars are usually designed for stability when the car is negotiating curbs. When I find out the stock power brace is not adequate enough on curby tracks, that would be the time for me to purchase a set of these strut bars.
Last piece of the puzzle perse
This, honestly, was more cosmetic and more for the fact that it had a brake master cylinder brace built in. They're not going to make a massive difference, but every bit will help. This isn't going to be a track dedicated car like my FRS is so I'm doing a little bit of function and form.
Strut bars don't resist body roll, so not sure why they would even be a factor in your thinking. They resist frame movement, if you have problems with curbs, you normally address that with proper suspension that can actually handle being driven that hard internally.

Can you give us an update on how the car handled after the strut bracing.
Is this something you're going to notice a substantial distance driving around town? No. It'll be a subtle upgrade in stiffness, but the brake master cylinder brace will be a nice improvement! Plus they look pretty damn good.
In other words, it did nothing but add weight to the car.
I have a backup tire on board, is there any rear strut bar that gives the clearance for the backup tire? did some research could not find one.
I saw the thumb nail and thought it was a carbon fibre driveshaft. Lol. Good job on that rear install! 👌🏻. So could you have taken the same approach with the carpet that you did with the mat?
Maybe we'll do a driveshaft as well! haha probably not on this car. Maybe on the FRS. As for the carpet, yes I could've, but then you wouldn't have access underneath without removing the bar. Because the mat can just be folded over, I can still pull the carpet out from underneath.
@@KevinVo I have always been interested to see how much of a difference the light weight shaft makes re how much power makes it to the rear wheels. I’d be intrigued to watch a before and after dyno. Might prompt me to buy one. 😉
I just put a down payment and ordered a red GR86. Unfortunately, I have to wait 6-8 months for it to be delivered, so your videos will give me ideas and hold me over

Hey Kevin! Just got my GR86 about 3 days ago and I’m new to the 86/BRZ community. What are some first mods you’d recommend to do?
It really depends what you're planning to do with the car. Some easy budget friendly mods are the JDM clear sidemarkers, LED upgraded for the interior and reverse lights, and a shift knob. If you plan on tracking the car you'll want to do brake fluid and pads at a minimum.
Do you think it would be a good idea to use blue Loctite for this and rear strut bar? I have seen a couple other install videos use it but was wondering your opinion should I grab a bottle and add it to mine?
I don't believe loctite is necessary for these. Should be perfectly fine without it.
I think blitz has a rear struct brace that doesn’t require cutting carpet
I think that one sits underneath the carpet though. I want to be able to see it! Haha

I'm wondering if these are worth getting now or maybe waiting a few years for the updated models and aftermarket parts.
How much better is a strut brace going to get though?
Question is.. if Toyota set-up GR 86 to be tail happy... would putting a brace in the trunk for that extra rigidity actually go against that theory? Obviously it would help lose the grip and get your car sliding easier with the factory set-up.. is not for lap time improvements in mind. However it depends on how often you go to a track as suppose to loosing your back end in a tail slide while driving home at one of the quite corner you know you can slide 😉.
In reality, the rear brace isn't going to make a substantial difference. These were more for looks than anything besides the brake master cylinder brace.
Man I'm so tossed between snagging a GR86 or waiting for the GR Corolla. My wife has a Corolla hatch and its a great car, gotta be even better pumping 300hp!
I don't think you can go wrong with either car really. I'd love a GF Corolla if I could get one.

What was the torque spec for the rear?
Now you need to carry tools to take out the rear bar if you ever need to get to the stuff in the spare tire well. Correct?
Nah, I can just flip the mat up and still access underneath. There's no spare tire in these anyway.
@@KevinVo I know. I have a 22 BRZ. I bought a new spare rim from Toyota for a FRS $88. I have a spare now. Good to know about the access. 👍
How much room is there between the rear brace and the back seats when up? I wanted a sub back there but it looks pretty cramped with the brace
There's room, but I don't think there's enough room to put some subs back there.

It does fit perfectly as it should. That may not be the case with all strut bars though depending on the mounting designs.
Are you still able to access your "spare tire" with the rear bar in place?
You can still access the space underneath the mat. Not sure if you'd be able to pull a spare out though. I don't have a spare installed on this car so can't say for sure.

As someone modding a car for the very first time, which, if any, of these mods would affect the manufacturer warranty?
None of these mods would affect the warranty if installed correctly.
How does the brake master cylinder brace feel?
Those things are a joke. I had one on my R33 GT-R and even braking super hard on track I never noticed better brake feel.
In these cars, it helps! I noticed it in my FRS as well!
It really depends on the car. Some cars have stiffer firewalls than others which means the brake master cylinder doesn't deflect as much. On these cars it makes a noticeable difference.
Does the GR86 Trunk liner fit in the FRS? it looks to be about the same?
I'm not 100% sure, I'll have to test it next time.

Really want to stiffen the chassis without cutting the mats
I feel like a beefy rear swaybar would address the stability better.
And since the twins have multi link rear suspension. The upper A arms would take away some of the impacts during curbing, so essentially the upper A arms are acting the job in place of the RSB.
It won't be a huge noticeable difference on the street. There's a blitz option that installs underneath the carpet if you don't want to cut the mats.
Will using the Veris caps void the car warranty?

Did you strip a stud on the suspension top hat or what stud did you strip?

Why would the caps fall off? They're secured in place even better than the plastic ones.

I would hardly call that a major downgrade. If anything, since the OEM cap flips up, you end up having to hold it out of the way while you pour anyway and how ofter are you filling up your washer fluid haha

Why so negative, Jared? It's a light hearted video sharing some parts being installed on the car. Are they the most mind blowing parts? Of course not, but as I've said, I'll be installing parts that I just think look great as well as parts that make the car better. Will these stiffen up the chassis a significant amount? Not likely, but at least it has a built in brake master cylinder brace and they look nice. At the end of the day, I'm having fun installing parts on my car. Why else do we spend money on these things haha
