Cari, I don't know if you will see this or not but watching your channel during the pandemic is what got me back into reading after not having read anything at all for years. And now i am planning on taking English Literature as a major in University and am a HUGE booktube junkie. Thank you so much for rekindling my love for books and literature! 🥺❤
I have cerebral palsy too, so I have to check the book out. Ryan O'Connell also made a TV show with a similar plot where he starred as the main character. It's funny, I highly recommend it.
I did the audio book for The Adventures of Amina, and I think the chatting with the scribe feels better in audio than only reading it. You could hear her push the mic away and chat, and then hear her bring it back, I think it was a better audio experience.
The unfortunate thing about the last tale of the flower bride is that people assume the wrong things before reading it. It's not a fantasy, it's not a romance, and the central theme is not marriage but the toxic frendship between indigo and azure. I'm glad you liked it..... it's my favourite book of all time!!
I have a theory that when we read a lot, regularly, our brains kind of parse through the information, remembering what's important, but otherwise... everything gets tossed out. I've gotten into the habit of writing down my book reviews immediately after I finish a book - like, within minutes - whether that's on my computer, or in a notebook, because I promise you by the next day, I will have forgotten everything about that book, including the name and author. I read about 114 books a year, and my brain just cannot hold that information all the time. It doesn't surprise me at all that you forget some of the books you read - I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I LOVED reading the Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi! ❤ I used to go to oral story telling festivals and the way the author wrote the story like she was recording an oral narrative brought back some happy memories 🥰
It was my absolute favourite read of the year! I liked the narrative, I do not think it was a story meant to be taken to aggressively seriously and those funny oral story telling moments helped break the tension and keep things fun.
I love how detailed you go, And what a tremendous amount of reading for such a busy month! You have great reading discipline, Cari! I hope you have a great Easter weekend!
With The Adventures of Amina I'm listening to the audio alongside the book and it's Amina who is telling us her story while the guy keeps interrupting her, I actually love this and wanted more of it. And the guy only narrates the found letters/documents. I do wish the pacing was faster though.
Cari, I hope you know how genuinely comforting and just purely enjoyable your videos are. I've watched all your reading vlogs countless times over. My day is always made infinitely better when you upload.
The only woman in the room has been on my list forever and after this review I DEFINITELY don’t want to anymore. So sad the book didn’t focus on the cooler aspects of her life. I think I’ll just look it up instead 😅
I was watching a frolic through fiction when she read the adventures of Amina al-sirafi and she read it via the audiobook and the way she described it just sounded so immersive and a really interesting way to write the book. so maybe because you only read it physically that's why it was so jarring? I'm not sure but omg all the books you spoke about got me weirdly excited to just sit down and read lots! idk why ahah I think its the way you describe them you're just so fun and passionate that I get excited to read😂

I literally rewatch your videos when I want something casual and comforting to watch 😅 you were one of the very first booktubers I came across and watched last year, so it’s almost nostalgic for me. Anyway, I wanted to recommend the book Ruination. It’s based on a game but I’m not a gamer, nor did I have any background for the story, but I loved the book. I read Sorcery of Thorns after I read Ruination, and it gave me similar feels. Libraries and grimoires… plot is so different but something about it felt similar and I think you’ll enjoy it. PS: do not look up the game because the book is a prequel and the game spoils the ending in a major way. Thank you for the videos!
Cari, for when you're in the mood for a fun mystery I think you'll love 'Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers', which is about an old Chinese lady who owns a tea shop.
Me not knowing what to read after my current book 🤝Cari posting her monthly reading wrap up From one Capricorn to another - thank you for helping me to plan ahead
You have no idea how excited I am when I saw this in my notifs! Been bingeing your videos on both channels, love the new travel videos 💗 You take care Cari~
Ahh i'm early! I love your videos so much and get many great recommendations from them! thank you for doing what you do🥰 (im currently reading sorcery of thorns and im excited to see what i think about it)
I wanna recommend the Dreamblood duology by N.K. Jemisin. Although the first book is a bit slow, it has such a unique magic system and I absolutely loved the second one, all the characters are amazing!🌸
😯I actually read Wilderness of Stars in March too! I definitely agree that some things happened too quickly and didn't allow the reader to really connect with the story or characters. I made myself finish it but I was just SO disconnected from everything I was just bored. I ended up skimming the ending lol and somehow wasn't even that surprised at the weird twist. Or maybe I just didn't care about it idk.
The cover of The Last Tale of the Flower Bride is what drew me to it but I think I agree about the cover misleading it. I don't really think it is a fantasy book but it is kind of marketed that way, so I think that people would dislike it because it led them astray. I certainly agree about the twists. I saw them coming too but didn't bother me because I think they were done well too. I did really enjoy this book though!
Godkiller's cover is STUNNING I immediately added it to my TBR 😩 I'm definitely interested in mythology but I'm going to be lowering my expectations just in case 😳
I just saw Godkiller in a library I randomly entered today, and now you're talking about it too?! Coincidence?? I don't think so 🤨 Anyway, I too was really tempted to pick it up just because of the cover + title alone, but now I'm definitely adding it to my TBR!
I actually really love the cover for The Last Flower Bride! It very similar to Nightbirds by Kate J. Armstrong. I HIGHLY recommend you pick that one up as well Cari. I know you'll love it 🐦
@cari can read Just looked up the UK cover. It fits well with the haunting/spooky fall vibe. But I still prefer the US cover! Especially since it goes well with the story the Bridegroom tells about the last flower bride in the book.
If you need some good roms in the future, I really love her books How to Walk Away and Things You Save In A Fire. I'm not a huge romance reader but I do enjoy them between heavier books and hers are my fave. I also liked Nora Goes Off Script by Annabel Monaghan!
Weyward looks so gorgeous and to be honest, knowledge of flowers is maybe the most accurate magic system out there, since these are pretty much real witches so I might actually enjoy it yayy. Like always thank you for the video it always makes me feel so relaxed when I watch your vlogs ❤❤❤
I really enjoyed it! The cover was what drew me in. The Weyward women have a very strong connection with nature, and that is where they find their power. But the story, like Cari said, is more about the women themselves than the actual magic. At its core it's about strong, powerful women who reclaim their power from the men who try to oppress them.
I was one of the people put off by the last flower bride title (although the cover is GORGEOUS) but after hearing you describe it I'm def picking it up! Thank you!🥰
I'm actually currently reading The Magician's Daughter! I'm almost done with it, and I do agree with what you said. It's an enjoyable read, but ultimately I felt like it coule have been so much more. I absolutely adored Weyward, I hope more people pay attention to it! The story is more about the women themselves than witchcraft. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a story with a strong feminist message
as someone who used to live in wisconsin, i laughed out loud at the "moved from the PNW to Wisconsin and needs help understanding the weather" part LOL
Hi Cari, I also read 'The Magician's Daughter' in March and I did enjoy it but I also agree with you about having other povs! I actually also read another book by the same author called 'The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep' and it was SO good; I loved it more than TMD and I think you'd love it too!!
I also just read the last tale of the flower bride. I def think the cover and name are misleading a little. I really like the book! The way everything was described was beautiful!
I saw A Wilderness of Stars on my library's new YA releases shelf a while back and the story didn't sound like absolute madness when I read its summary. Now, though, I can't wait to hear about how insane it gets. 😁
@@caricanread Yess! I mean, I know from watching your videos your opinions on books like ACOTAR and FBAA, and I agree with them, but I truly was shocked by this book! Raihn knows boundaries, and its definitely not insta-love, so it was a very enjoyable read! But the final decision is yours ❤(Edit: Be prepared for tears. This book is ruthless and gory. cari if you want something fae related (later on) i recommend emily wilde’s encyclopedia of faeries!!! it’s just a bunch of faerie related chaos w a love interest who resembles cardan & howl haha
A few times a week, I go to work by foot. It takes me about 40 minutes, and what motivates me to do so instead of taking the bus (which takes me less time) is you and your beautifully long videos!❤ As I get out of the house, I put on my airpods and look up your channel. So enjoyable, every single time! Thank you🥹
You probably get asked this a lot, but how's your balance of reading Ipad vs Kindle now that you got one? Which one do you use at home? Curious haha! I love your videos, you are great!
Godkiller is giving me big The Silt Verses vibes, which is also making me want to give it a go. Hopefully it’ll fill the “gods are actively involved so they need killing on occasion” hole until the new season starts
I mean I'm straight obviously but it does strike a chord with me because I have cerebral palsy and it's interesting when people talk about it because it does have such a wide spectrum
The best audiobook I've ever listened to was Echo, which centers around a harmonica and music. Not only does the book describe the music and instrument but music is a big part of the audiobook. So listening to the novel is better than reading it.
The last tale is my fave of the year so far. I got the fairyloot edition and definitely think that cover is better. I've been describing it as a cross between Bunny and The Picture of Dorian Grey. I think Roshani Chokshi is one of the best writers ever!
I think you should go through the Kate Daniel’s series. Or someone should at least, I’m not sure how popular it is, but I’d enjoy a critical breakdown of it. It’s urban fantasy and very much not YA but I’ve been in a bit of a reading rut lately and have been thinking of going back to the series that got me to read 10 whole books in one go, and thought it would be nice to see someone’s take on it.
I know what you mean about the American cover for The Last Tale of the Flower Bride. As Roshani Chokshi's first non-YA novel, the cover should have been more similar to the UK cover (no faces, just trinkets). I'm on the fence about reading it because I wasn't feeling some of the passages I read as I flipped through it at the bookstore. I shall wait for the paperback, I think.
Speaking of Prague! Not sure if I missed it... But have you read Daughter of Smoke and Bone? Part of the story takes place there. One of my favorite YA fantasies.
I just finished The Last Tale of the Flower Bride yesterday. I had it on hold at 50% for a month and picked it back up. I am not into fae and stuff like that, but I heard great things about it so I wanted to check it out. I totally agree that it was beautifully and magically written and I really enjoyed that and after the 50% mark it got better and better for me. The ending I did not see coming. A friend of mine is more into magical/fairytale books and so I told her to buy it immediately. Curious what she will think of it. I am sure she will have read it in a day or two.
highly recommend 'Devil House' as a commentary on true crime, i'm not completely finished with it but it seems to hit all the marks as a critique of the genre
Please read The Stray Spirit and A Rival Most Vial by R.K. Ashwick. They're both so good and such quick reads. Comfort fiction with lots of humor. (The author is my friend and I am filled with the compulsive need for everyone to read her books. Because they're wonderful!)😊
I absolutely LOVED Weyward. I bought it based on the cover (of course). I think the multiple timeline was done extremely well, and enjoyed the fact that the majority of the witchcraft wasn't spells but more of a strong tie to and understanding of nature (plants, insects, and animals). I think that let the book stay true to its more feminist roots. Like the majority of women throughout history were healers, nurturers and growers which was (mostly accepted) but not always and seen as indecent during many periods (aka Violet with her insects). I"m sad to hear about the Shea Ernshaw book. I just read The Wicked Deep and loved it. I (again) bought it mostly for the cover and immediately bought Winterwood after finishing it.
I totally agree about The Only Woman in the Room - it was so disappointing that this woman who was so intelligent and fascinating was basically reduced to her beauty alone. I’ve enjoyed some other books by Marie Benedict, but this one was a miss for me.
@@caricanread omg I have your notifications on and everything and youtube never told me you posted the crave video last week! hate it when that happens
Cari - I was so glad to see that I was not alone with "I Have Some Questions For You!" I have been so disappointed with the new books that have been coming out during the last few months. I am beginning to think that the Pandemic is to blame for the lower quality of fiction lately. The Authors have gotten slack, and the Editors are getting lazy as well! "I Have Some Questions For You" was very poorly edited! There was so much that could have been skipped, and so much more, as you said, that should have been included! I've read 30 books since the beginning of this year, and so far, only one I would have given a "5 Star" rating!
Cari, I have a book recommendation that I think you might like! Have you heard of Thirsty Animals or The Pharmacist? Both by Rachelle Atalla. Best books I’ve read in a long time!!
I’m with you on I Have Some Questions For You. The author seemed like all they wanted to do was write the most “woke” story. I ended up skipping about half of part 1 and picking it up again at part 2 just to try and get through it. Thanks for all your insights!
Hi Cari, I am wondering if you are reading thriller/suspense, if so. Could you try Freida McFadden books such as “The Housemaid” It has the sequel now also! I wanna know your thoughts if you will have a chance to read it. ❤

This is why I secretly feel irritated when people get upset at forgetful people. because they are asking someone to consciously do something your BRAIN isn't even doing 😑

@@caricanread ahh ok!! i couldn’t remember if you read it or not :D
Yesss time to update my want to read list on goodreads LOL
Godkiller is giving me big The Silt Verses vibes, which is also making me want to give it a go. Hopefully it’ll fill the “gods are actively involved so they need killing on occasion” hole until the new season starts
I LOVED the Magicians Daughter. I wanted more
I mean I'm straight obviously but it does strike a chord with me because I have cerebral palsy and it's interesting when people talk about it because it does have such a wide spectrum
It’s urban fantasy and very much not YA but I’ve been in a bit of a reading rut lately and have been thinking of going back to the series that got me to read 10 whole books in one go, and thought it would be nice to see someone’s take on it.
your videos are always so comfy and i love listening to your thoughts and interpretations ☺️🫶🏻
Died at "daydream smut scene" loool
🙃🙃🙃
I am sure she will have read it in a day or two.
highly recommend 'Devil House' as a commentary on true crime, i'm not completely finished with it but it seems to hit all the marks as a critique of the genre
oh! i have to look that up!!
I (again) bought it mostly for the cover and immediately bought Winterwood after finishing it.
the Oregon coast feels like the land of Fae.
11:17 I was going to buy this book BUT the title was throwing me off ahhh I should’ve 😂
Just watched someone's wrap up video and they said the EXACT THINGS you did about I Have Some Questions For You 😂
I totally agree about The Only Woman in the Room - it was so disappointing that this woman who was so intelligent and fascinating was basically reduced to her beauty alone.
I’ve enjoyed some other books by Marie Benedict, but this one was a miss for me.
Pirate book recommendation: a clash of steel by cb lee! Loved the video as always :)
finally girl i missed u
I post every week - are you not seeing my posts 🥺
Best books I’ve read in a long time!!
omg I really wanted to read I Have Some Questions For You and I just got it on Libby but your reasonings are everything I usually hate in media
if you end up reading it lmk what you think! i had such high hopes :/
A Wilderness of Stars felt like a fever dream after some things happened. When the "twist" was on its way I was just like: wtf girlie
TRULY the strangest thing i've read in a while
I’m with you on I Have Some Questions For You. The author seemed like all they wanted to do was write the most “woke” story. I ended up skipping about half of part 1 and picking it up again at part 2 just to try and get through it.
Thanks for all your insights!
so bummed, i had such high hopes!
In terms of ‘Always the Almost’ i loved it very much, Eric is my favorite character, and no. The lake is not a draw.
Hi Cari, I am wondering if you are reading thriller/suspense, if so. Could you try Freida McFadden books such as “The Housemaid” It has the sequel now also! I wanna know your thoughts if you will have a chance to read it. ❤
😅 i just bought "I have some questions for you" and now have regrets 🙃
