Can we always take a moment to appreciate how brilliant Cheryl Waters is? Always brings so much energy and enthusiasm, what a diamond she is.
So ist es! 🙂
I’ve loved *and* appreciated our Cheryl Waters since KCMU 📻 🎶 . 🎙 She’s one Seattle treasure that they can’t tear down and replace with condominiums .
total dream job!
Protect Cheryl Waters At All Costs
Echoes of Talk Talk, OMD, A-Ha, ....
I love it!!!!!
Yessss, I was thinking the same. Great band. My most fav band forever is Talk Talk...
Only three albums and they are already essentials.
i’m dying!! ‚weak in your light‘ is just one of the greatest and deepest songs i‘ve ever heard. and they perfomed it live absolutely amazing as well
i truly love you guys for all this!😌❤
man I love good synth-pop, imo it’s really rare to find quality music in that genre these days but this band absolutely kills it. simultaneously sound like they could be on early 80s college radio while also having a fresh modern approach. nuanced songwriting, catchy melodies, very good use of those moog and prophet synths, awesome work on the bass guitar, and a truly fantastic vocalist. very much like a cross between David Byrne and Mark Hollis.
I agree with you. 👍
I’m trying to find more good synth pop, any recommendations?
As a New Order fan, I'm glad that they went full Bizarre Love Triangle on Division Street
Muito bem lembrado, o complemento perfeito de uma obra quase perfeita, fui levado aos anos 90 nessa mágica, maravilhoso em todos os sentidos.
Spot on.
Also, if you like Bizarre Love Triangle, check the Commercial Breakup version 😀
Just watched them live last night.
STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND GET TICKETS!!!
NOL you just get better and better and better, what a fantastic sound you have 🙌🏽🫶🏽❤️ , and Aidan is absolutely gorgeous 😍
Cherill Waters, period. What a great host, gosh.
What a cool group, first time listener--hooked
KEXP sure does love Nation of Language! As of today, 3rd most played artist of 2023. And Strange Disciple is #11 on albums played list, despite being released just 3 weeks ago! Such a great band!
I think I have a crush on the keyboard player
In love with the Disco Lady ❤️
They make me think of the Smiths or Joy Division
Coffee and KEXP every day.
Alex's bass in Too Much, Enough is sublime.😊
they're the best. saw them in Brussels few days ago, best live band in a long time...
Alex is a god damn vibe machine with that Mustang Bass. Just LIVING in the pocket with the programmed drums so Ian and Aidan can dance in the soundscapes they build around the groove. Such a great band
If Harry, Hermoine and Ron dropped out of Hogwarts and made magic in different ways.
LMAO
Yr in a new wave band, Harry!
LOL
Discosius fantasticus!!
Fucking hell that's a great analogy
so good
Amazing sound.
Talking Heads, Talk Talk, Yazoo, Eurythmics cross bred to create a baby music unicorn. Sweet. ❤
Division Street is just pure New Order kinda shit on so many levels, absolutely love this
Just watched them live in Manchester incredible 👏
I was there too. Completely blown away!
Not sure why but I did not expect them to be good live. I was waaaaaay wrong.
Fortemente influenciado por The Human League, OMD, Vince Clarke, simplesmente incríveis!
Cheryl Wsters maravilhosa
I am a fan of Disco Lady.
I hope they start adding friend machine to their regular setlist, such a good song
Pretty wonderful.
O M D vibez
They are absolutely amazing , it's like I'm listening New Order , OMD and Depeche Mode at the same time ... and I mean that as an absolute compliment !
Awesome 👍😎
they sound better and better with every performance🤩 And this Moog Subsequent sound😍😍😍(correct me if I am wrong)
I just discovered you guys on KEXP!
almost like what I imagine New Order would have sounded had Ian Curtis lived
21:59 The beauty of imperfection :)
Devaney's voice is such a stunner. I'm used to a singer sounding a bit rougher around the edges in a live performance but he's pretty much studio quality all the way through. Really impressive.
Disco Lady❤
Brilliant band -- just discovered them today. Love the Moog synth in the setup.
I think Aidan does an extraordinary job with the machines. The beats/rythms/melodies she produces are really something. At first, NoL left me a bit cold, but after paying more attention to their music (and seeing them live at that show in Poland, actually) I've completely changed my mind. Great band.
Ian is hands down the best vocalist I've ever heard live. Managed to catch him after a gig in the UK and tell him, absolutely blew me away, his voice is unbelievable live, what a talent.
Aidan is my cousin and she actually learned music along the way as NoL was formed. I believe Ian taught her most everything she knows. And yes, they're just as in love and wonderful together as they appear on stage :)
What a discovery! What an amazing band. Feels like If Cut Copy were living in the mid 80's by the time of Bizarre Love Triangle. Greetings from Portugal
I hadn't connected Cut Copy until now.
These guys make me think of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark so much. Love NoL’s new album!
This, so much this.
The singer mentioned he used to hear their music when his dad was driving.
A shadow they escape?
@@dwat26 Yeah , but what’s there to escape ? It’s not like they’re *trying* to sound like someone else - they’ve got their own thing going on. Plenty of it , imo. It’d be kindof difficult to play in a genre and not get compared to past greats (if you’re really good) of the same. I was thinking about this while listening to Greta Van Fleet some days ago. Would they go away after being too often compared to Led Zeppelin ? Even Robert Plant thinks Josh sounds like him. But they’re not going anywhere and fans of 70s and early 80s are flocking to them. As soon as interview after interview with the comparisons made slow down it’ll be less of a drag , likely.
Division Street sounds as hauntingly beautiful as always and as for 'Too much, enough' ... I never get enough of this cracking little banger.. 😊
Orchestral Maneuvers in the KEXP
Thank you, Nation of Language and KEXP!
Great capture of a great performance.
If these few songs are all these guys ever do, they’d still be better than most bands today!
Thanks to Cheryl Waters
I love this song
Good and long live to this wonderfull band Nation Of Language
I live in Lyon ( France ) Please a concert in Lyon asap !!!
Christophe
What a great band that keeps writing wonderful, nostalgic songs. I do wish they'd add an actual drummer for live performances - it would add such power behind Ian's exceptional live vocals - but maybe someday they will.
Nah....this works just fine and I think the majority of fans agree😊
Massive thanks KEXP for all!!! You make a difference in people's lives
Great taste - Palace, KEXP & NOL 🦅
@@supereagle39 Thanks for the compliment! I think I'm an appreciator of beauty, textures, souls. To do this you need to have good taste, without false modesty haha I'm a sincere guy. What's your name? What country are you talking about? Apparently you also values good taste as much as I do. 🙂
The best band from the past few years. Every damn song is catchy and brilliant. Hope you hit Saskatchewan someday.
Recently stumbled on this group…couldn’t be happier
I hear a lot of Talk Talk's sound contamination, especially in Friend Machine, very similar to the arrangements in It's My Life, but also Yazoo, Depeche Mode and other of dark music '80. Anyway, compliments!
The last time I was this excited about music, was when UK band Mirrors put out their 'Lights & Offerings' album back in 2011. I am excited again. I discovered NOL through Qobuz. Really enjoyed this.
mirrors were amazing
I totally agree. I miss them
spot on
Best band to come along in decades. - Not enough superlatives to write here. - *HUGE* fan of NoL. ❤❤❤❤❤
Lead singer surely has been studying Tom Smith of Editors for his stage presence.
This was brilliant, enjoyed it immensely. Great job!! 🤘
By far and away the best fucking album of 2023 and possibly beyond! I have not been this excited by a band since The Cure!
😮😮😮retro 80's sound!
Disco Lady plays a mean computer. I love this band.
The reason I subscribe to KEXP. A fantastic band I hadn't yet discovered. Gutted to see they just left the UK just 2 days after seeing this 😢
gutted for you! I saw them in bristol and they smashed it.
Great lil band. They're touring around right now and the show is real fun. Go see 'em!
Saw them last night. Great set for sure. Brought that 80s vibe fo sho
So damn good with their electronic 80s vibes. I hope they're around forever!
Wow! Loved the KEXP Gathering Space, would have liked to be a part of this live set.
Great to see one of my favourites "Nation of Language" doing so well - touring the world. Already with 3 albums in their vault - all magnificent👌
It was 2020 pandemic with no work and I discovered NOL on Spotify. Their debut LP was hard to acquire. Glad they reissued it in early 2022 🙂 Now, have all 3 albums on vinyl.
Hope, someday NOL does tour India. Thanks so much for the music🙏
Everybody is letting their hair grow out!!! ;-)
I've listened to this so many times that the Weak In Your Light melody is now burned into my hippocampus like cattle prod
Something tells me Fred Armisen is a big fan.
Great band. Just found them tonight as they do a cover of one of my favourite bands. Broken Social Scene! Check out new Kevin Drew's album Aging.
Aidan Noell The most beautiful woman of the world!!! ❤
Thanks KEXP. Great band. Saw NoL September 2023 in Bristol, Wales!
They sound a lot like Jonathan Bree ^You're so Cool^. comes to mind
Great set - What a cool rendition of Friend Machine too - Makes me feel like I'm back in 1983 all over again!
Dude could make bank as a professional Morten Harket impersonator
Cheryl Waters and Troy Nelson are two great presenters along with many other passionate people...
Diggin your 80's syth sound. I just found you on KEXP too!
Guauu, la rompeeeen. Mucha cosa. Gracias desde Bolivia.
So good, thanks KEXP! Friend Machine is purely an amazing track.
Well... Seems like I just missed them playing in Europe. Let's hope for next year! Such a nice vibe!
Beautiful performance!
Y'all SO cute....
Reminds me of U2, DM, the Smits, but in its original and incredible way... LOVE THIS BAND, FOR SURE THE BEST EXPLORATION OF 2023, THANKS TO KEXP, YOU BOTH TOOK ME OUT OF DEPRESSION... 🙏✌️❤️
too much, enough went hard af, i get frission every time i hear it. Great job!!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS TRACK, but they are lip synching to the album version.
Ya'll cute.
Hermoso ❤
Reminds me of the talking heads love this. His voice is brilliant and she’s lovely.
Love KEXP and LOVE this Band.
Lead singer's voice comes in much better in these KEXP recordings compared to the albums.
Wow, I discovered this band two months ago, and I have been a huge fan ever since. They borrow form synth pop greats like New order. They create their own new paths, and do as well or better than any who came before! Tremendous!!
Just saw them live this summer and now getting into this video - they sound even better live. An amazing band, Ian's voice is something else!
I'm going tonsee them in Corona capital in México and I am so excited!!!
You need an acoustic drummer to blend your great beats & rhythms. I'm your man.
SO GOOD LIVE! very grateful to have caught them on tour
I F***ckNG love Nation of Language! Thank you, KEXP
These guys are awesome!
