I know this is an old video but my fingers are crossed that I can still get help. I have a 2017 Infiniti and I was pumping gas today and it started to pour out at the bottom of my car around about half a tank I’m guessing because that’s where I ended up when I had to stop .
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. No matter how old the video is, we will always be here to help!!! 😁 It’s likely that your hose has begun to leak. However, first we recommend taking a look at the fuel filler neck which is the part that the gas nozzle goes into at the gas station when you are filling your tank with fuel. Follow the fuel filler neck down underneath the vehicle and see if it’s leaking. It’s easier to check this soon after fueling the vehicle as the leak-point will be wet and very noticeable. A few things can cause your fuel filler neck to begin to leak. Years of rust causing whole/leak or a rock hitting it while driving on a dirt road. If your fuel filler neck looks good and has no leaks, the next part is the rubber hose. The hose itself can dry-rot and warp over the years leading to leaks Let’s start there, please keep us posted. Us DIYers need to stick together!!! 😎👍
Thanks for watching. That will depend on the setup however in most cases, the pipe feeding off of f tank is one with the tank and cannot be removed or replaced.
I have an issue. I try to fill my tank up. The gas nozzle keeps stopping every couple seconds. The only way I can fill it up is when it gets to half a tank or below. Will replacing these parts fix the problem? the fuel tank has been changed a couple times.
Thanks for watching & it will most likely get you back to normal. It’s very possible that you have hoses that are clogging and by replacing them you should be good to go.
Daijoubu Thanks for checking out the video. That's a great point as the new clamps will rust over the next few years. This will help our future viewers. Thanks again for your comment. Subscribe to the channel that would be awesome 😀👍

Thanks for watching & you are very welcome. A new breather tube will be a good idea however if there is nothing wrong with the tube currently installed, no need to replace it. On other hand, it’s personal preference and not a bad time to replace it since you have fuel removed and access to it. 😎👍
Question ,the valve where you stick the gas nozzle to fill the tank is missing on my 2000 Toyota Camry that I just bought is that going to cause me problems ,should I replace the filler neck hose, I never had a car that was missing that valve?
awake & alive Glad to help & we appreciate you watching. You can get the part from your local dealership. They will need the last 8 digits of your VIN #. Hey Michael, I'm planning on doing this with my 01 Chevy S10 soon. I have one question that might have an obvious answer. Is it necessary to drain all the fuel from the vehicle before doing this? Or does the tank just need to not be pressurized? Thanks in advance. Amazing video.
We appreciate that, thank you. Great question and we recommend having no more than a 1/4 tank when performing this project. Having a 1/4 tank or less will ensure a good amount of separation between the top of tank where fuel hose secures into and the level of fuel inside…ultimately lowering the risk of fuel spill.
quick question: do you have to do this job when tank totally out of gas??? when you remove the old hose, I did not see any gas coming out?? what if there was gas in the tank??? do you have to totally empty the tank before starting the job??? please advise .. thank you
I think I saw your answer:I recommend waiting until your fuel tank is below 1/2 tank before changing part...this will allow fuel to be lowered and alleviated from the filler neck as well as rubber hoses connecting to tank
Hisham Gad Thanks for watching. Great question and we always recommend doing this type of project with little to no fuel in the tank for safety purposes. If there is a Lot of fuel in the tank, you increase the chances of fuel leak and or unwanted fire. 😲 Let us know if you have any questions, we are always here to help! Hi..just brought a 2002 econovan..intermittant smell of gas..esp noticable when slowing dwn, when flying along at say 80kmh no smell..anyway, where would be advice to start looking fir a leak..spraying all lines with soapy water? Mechanic whi checked the car for riad worthiness said he saw no noticable signs of leak..Thanks in advance..ps think u just answered my question near end of vid...that the pipes become so hard that clamps dont clamp properly
Thanks for checking out the video. Have you ordered new hoses? It is very common for an old hose to stiffen/harden and cause gas fumes to leak. With that said, your hose might not even be leaking actual fuel...It might just be letting out a fuel scent due to the leaky hoses. Keep me posted. Please Subscribe to the channel that would be awesome!
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. That will depend on if the part itself was damaged. If all looks good, you should be able to reinstall part. Please keep us posted. 😎👍🔧🔩
Hey like ur video 😊👍🏼 I have a question I have a 91 Camaro Z-28 & I took it to get smog and one of the problem for not passing the smog was something about “ Fillpipe Restrictor “ ??? And if I did my google rite it shows me something about the lil door that’s inside where I put gas ???
L- Kane Oxnard 805 Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your experience! Let’s get this figured out! The FillPipe restrictor is installed on top of Fuel Filler neck & provides a circular hole for the nozzle to go into. The part only allows unleaded size fuel nozzles to enter into & fill tank...the restrictor won’t allow leaded fuel nozzle ( which is larger in diameter ) to enter. Hope this helps! Please subscribe to the channel and turn on your RUclips notification Bell that would be awesome thanks again! 😎👍🔧🔩
Went to do this last night on my 2000 Ranger and it didn't work out good for me... When I went to pop the filler neck off, it was so rusted that it broke off. The hose clamps are so rusted out, I couldn't even get them to turn. That was after soaking them in PB Blaster for 30 minutes. Now I'm stuck with about 1.5 inches of rusted fuel neck still stuck in the line... Going to try cutting the hose clamps off and breaking apart the remaining fuel neck inside the tube. Hopefully I can get it all out, or I'll be stuck replacing the entire hose. That's a job all in itself. Been searching all over RUclips to see if anyone else has had this happen to them.
Paul Monk Thanks for watching Paul, that doesn’t sound fun however it’s definitely doable. Main focus is removing remaining piece of filler neck & getting yourself in position for adding new part. Definitely keep us posted on your project. 😎👍🔧🔩
Hi great video and page! quick question are there any universal filler hoses bc for my vehicle there is no specific hose just the entire assembly!!?? Or is it possible to repair or put some sort of jb weld etc around the connections where it is leaking
Good morning & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. The most common route is to replace entire hose. We recommend visiting your local dealership & providing them with the 8 last digits of your VIN #. They will be able to get you the exact replacement hose for your exact vehicle. By doing it this way, you won’t have to worry about wondering whether or not it is going to fit perfectly. 😎👍🔧🔩
Daniel Villalobos Thanks for watching Daniel, we purchased the breather line from our local dealership. rck wheels Thanks for checking out the video. Great question, fuel leaks can be very dangerous on many levels. I recommend waiting until your fuel tank is below 1/2 tank before changing part...this will allow fuel to be lowered and alleviated from the filler neck as well as rubber hoses connecting to tank...decreasing any chance of a fuel spill. Also, be extremely careful when using tools as you don't want any sparks. Keep me posted. Please Subscribe to the channel that would be awesome thanks again.
Good morning & we appreciate you watching. Welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. As long as the fuel level is below the opening hole that the hose connects to, you won’t need to drain tank. If the fuel level is above the hole, once you remove the hose, it will leak fuel until the fuel level is below the hole. It’s important to plan accordingly & have a container ready to catch fuel that leaks. 😎👍🔧🔩

Mister.Jim Thanks for checking out the video! The original clamps are steel and the new clamps aren't. It's kinda personal preference. Hi Borders. My car is the 2003 ES300 Lexus and it has the GAS TANK NECK SHIELD (right at the filler neck, it is a piece of thin metal that used to cover the hose at the filler's neck. When you push the gas dispenser in, it opens. When you pull the gas dispenser out, it closes) It is disappeared and I believe it might have dropped down to somewhere inside the filler neck and blocking the fuel flow from the neck to the gas tank. I am now having the false shut-off when I try to fill my gas tank. Do you have any idea how to remove it? And why all the cars have that shield, what is its function? Thanks! N. Le
Guy inSJ Thanks for checking out the video. This is an uncommon situation although I have heard of this in the past. A couple options 1. Taking a magnetic tipped extension tool that is bendable and adjustable to guide into the filler neck to see if you can grab the loose piece with with the magnetic tip. You can purchase tool at AutoZone 2. Take some time and carefully remove filler neck and then try to shake the part out. Then reinstall filler neck "Depending on if the filler neck is in a good enough condition to be worthy of being reinstalled" 3. You may just want to purchase a new filler neck. Let me know if you have any questions. Subscribe to the channel if you're up to it thanks again 😀👍
I'm trying to change the fuel filler hose on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee just the filler hose not the neck, do I need to drop the gas tank to do this I can't find any helpful information anywhere online🥺
Good morning ☕️ Thanks for reaching out to us. The tank itself should be kept secured to vehicle. Are you able to access both sides of the filler hose to disconnect it and install a new one?
i need some advice i bought a 1999 nissan maxiama the guy i bought it from says when he fills it with more than half a tank it leaks on the ground could this be the same thing should i be worried i cant smell gas when im drving but i can sort of smell it when its parked but not really
patrick lynch Thanks for the update. This is exactly what will happen when your hoses are leaking. Once tank is full of fuel, there is a portion of fuel that fills the filler neck & then automatically triggers the handle shut off mechanism. That small portion of fuel then leaks out onto the floor...not good. We recommend taking a look & trying to locate any signs of leaks on these hoses. Keep us posted. Please subscribe to the channel and turn on your RUclips notification Bell 🛎 that would be awesome thanks again! 😎👍🔧🔩
Thanks for watching & you will want to ensure that the fuel level is below 1/4 tank which will allow you to remove hose without having fuel spill out. Keep us posted on your project.
patrick lynch Thanks for watching & sharing your question. It’s very possible that you have a warped hose tip which leads to a loose connection point. When do you smell fuel? Is it more noticeable at high speeds? Keep us posted. Please subscribe to the channel and turn on your RUclips notification Bell 🛎 that would be awesome thanks again! 😎👍🔧🔩
DIY With Michael Borders just a question how would i know if there is a leak in the fuel filler neck i have a 03 bmw 325i when my car is parked if i put my nose by the gas cap i can smell a little bit of gas no sure if its the filer neck
patrick lynch Thanks for watching & we appreciate you sharing your comment. The most efficient way to tackle this is to go below vehicle & inspect all fuel hoses & or lines feeding out of your fuel tank. Focus on the fuel filler neck & in most cases, the leak will be toward the lower portion where the filler neck makes a turn toward the sub system hose. Keep us posted. Please subscribe to the channel and turn on your RUclips notification Bell 🛎 that would be awesome thanks again. 😎👍🔧🔩
patrick lynch Thanks for the reply. That’s very possible. Also, it can be warped hose tips or loose clamps. Below is a link to our video that talks more about that. ruclips.net/video/tSV7L2MFuWo/видео.html Keep us posted! 😎👍🔧🔩
hey great video, my problem is my filler neck rotted off right at the point where it attached behind the fuil cap, there is nothing to attach hose to due to the rot ( 2001 ford explorer) any suggestions?
Thats sounds like a fun job. I have heard of people using different kinds of bond solutions however Im not sure if I can recommend that due to not ever seeing the results. Is there a piece of plastic on your design that houses the filler neck top or was it all rusted away metal?
Thanks for watching and welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. You will need to slide the mesh hose portion over the beveled lip on the filler neck pipe and then secure hose with a clamp to alleviate hose sliding off the beveled portion of hard pipe. Keep us posted on your project. 😎👍🔧🔩
Hello there. Thank you for your video I feel pretty confident that I can change this on my own. I do have a question; could the damages to this hose cause your car to over heat?
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Overheating engine won’t be related to this hose unless the complete wrong type of fuel is inside tank & being burned in engine. Hope this helps. Enjoy your night. 😎👍🔧🔩

Typical symptoms: U get check engine light for EVAP, the kids at oreallys or autozone will try to scan you into buying a gas cap. You gotta take the retainer that holds the old one in place and accumulates salt and rust. Better yet take it off before u get this shit
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders thx for the quick reply...I'm assuming my dads does...he hit a moose and totalled it...just tryna get the full tank of gas out of it before we send it to the crusher...haha...I just pulled the hose off the fuel rail and extended it to my rover and jumped the relay...thx tho
Hi there. Btw, great video! I have a question. You know, removing a radiator hose can sometimes be a challenge... you have to twisted, etc. Now, what about the fuel filler neck hose? Is it harder or easier to remove than a radiator hose? Or as hard?
3dplanet100 Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your comment 3dplanet100! As I worked through this project and got to removing the hose, I found that just by carefully rotating it...this allowed the hose to slightly loosen and I then slowly worked it off. As you know, the hose connects to the tank...and in most cases, it’s very rusty...you want to be extra careful as you remove the hose. Aggressive tugging might harm the tank...may cause future leaks...don’t want that. Let me know if you have any additional questions my friend. Hey nice video. I have a 2000 Corolla which looks like it has the same set up as your Toyota. My fuel filler neck is extremely rusted. It finally decided to start leaking. Upon inspection I think it must have a small crack . My question is do you think it is safe and easy to replace? I have done alot of repairs to my own car over the years. I am mostly just scared of working with Gasoline. Thanks.
Thanks for checking out the video. This is a pretty friendly repair. It is imperative that you use caution while working around the gas for reasons that you're aware of.
It’s likely that your hose has begun to leak.
The hose itself can dry-rot and warp over the years leading to leaks
Let’s start there, please keep us posted. Us DIYers need to stick together!!! 😎👍
If anyone is going to get discouraged by taking off the tire then they probably shouldn't bother doing much of ANYTHING to their vehicle on their own.

I need to know if you are able to take the part out that goes into the gas tank where the hose goes in to the tank to fill the tank up with gas

Hi Michael. Thank you for the informative video. If nothing seems wrong with my breather tube should I also replace it? Not really sure what it does.
Thanks for watching & you are very welcome. A new breather tube will be a good idea however if there is nothing wrong with the tube currently installed, no need to replace it.
On other hand, it’s personal preference and not a bad time to replace it since you have fuel removed and access to it.

Hisham Gad
Thanks for watching. Great question and we always recommend doing this type of project with little to no fuel in the tank for safety purposes.
If there is a Lot of fuel in the tank, you increase the chances of fuel leak and or unwanted fire. 😲

L- Kane Oxnard 805
Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your experience!

Thanks for watching Paul, that doesn’t sound fun however it’s definitely doable. Main focus is removing remaining piece of filler neck & getting yourself in position for adding new part. Definitely keep us posted on your project.

Is there a danger or fuel spilling out of the filler neck when disconnecting from the tank?
rck wheels Thanks for checking out the video.
Do you need empty the tank thank you
Good morning & we appreciate you watching.

You recommend using new hose clamps but you obviously reused at least one of the original clamps. What is your genuine opinion on that issue?
Mister.Jim Thanks for checking out the video! The original clamps are steel and the new clamps aren't. It's kinda personal preference. Either way the clamps will rust and begin to become a pain down the road if needed to be removed....especially being exposed to Salt and everyday weather where I am.
A couple options
1. Taking a magnetic tipped extension tool that is bendable and adjustable to guide into the filler neck to see if you can grab the loose piece with with the magnetic tip. You can purchase tool at AutoZone
2. Take some time and carefully remove filler neck and then try to shake the part out. Then reinstall filler neck "Depending on if the filler neck is in a good enough condition to be worthy of being reinstalled"
3. You may just want to purchase a new filler neck.
Let me know if you have any questions.

ground could this be the same thing should i be worried i cant smell gas
when im drving but i can sort of smell it when its parked but not

patrick lynch
Thanks for the update. This is exactly what will happen when your hoses are leaking.
Once tank is full of fuel, there is a portion of fuel that fills the filler neck & then automatically triggers the handle shut off mechanism.
That small portion of fuel then leaks out onto the floor...not good.
We recommend taking a look & trying to locate any signs of leaks on these hoses.

patrick lynch
Thanks for watching & we appreciate you sharing your comment. The most efficient way to tackle this is to go below vehicle & inspect all fuel hoses & or lines feeding out of your fuel tank.
Focus on the fuel filler neck & in most cases, the leak will be toward the lower portion where the filler neck makes a turn toward the sub system hose.
