It's sad how people think. In high school my dad started a puppy of the month club. He would get a puppy that had no home and each kid got a turn to take care of it til someone wanted to adopt it. Every time the puppy got big nobody wanted them. Anyway my dad kept them and ended up with 14 new dogs by the time he graduated. Lol
I only disagree with one thing in this video. “Keeping dogs small, sweet, and lovable their whole life.” Dogs don’t have to be small and sweet just to be lovable. In fact I’d like to see a massive 200 lbs wolfhound named Pancake
This is a very old breed, been arround for a long time relationship with humans as a working breed, it's not a puppy breed, mostly it's used later in history as a herding dog but it is also a breed that have been a hunters partner, it's size don't scare away animals like smaller Deer species so it finds them bark at them to show it's human friends where the prey is so the hunter can sneak in on it, bigger dogs scares away those animals so they flee full speed and leaves us human no chance cathing up, this is a original partnership human and dog that benefitted us through history, and maybe how humans and dogs became best buddies.
A woman who lived a few doors down from me, she would adopt a new puppy every year. As soon as that puppy got to be a year old or so, she would dump it at the local pound or give it away to a stranger. It was awful, she was a nice person but she was a horrid dog owner.
I’m a vet, have been for more than 25+ years and a number of years ago we had a woman come in and wanted her two cats euthanized which of course is something I only do when it’s in the best interest of the animals quality of life. I asked her what was wrong with her cats, i.e. medical issues and she stated they were perfectly healthy but she just had her home remodeled and they don’t go with her new decor of the house. I very angrily told her that my clinic does not just euthanize animals just because their owners want them to be and that we would do no such thing. I offered to take the cats from her in order to get them adopted out and she agreed and signed them over to my clinic. After I knew the cats were safe with us I spoke to her outside the clinic and I just went off on her about her callousness, cruelty and selfish attitude towards animals. To this day I still have the cats she so willfully wanted killed and they are the sweetest little girls and I couldn’t see my life without them and all the love, joy and laughter they have brought to me and my family. BTW, they don’t match the decor of my house either and I could care less!
I don’t think she was a nice person at all. I truly nice person would get attached to the animal and wouldn’t abandon it or give it away to strangers in any circumstances. I have been a volunteer at an animal shelter for over a decade and I have dealt many times with traumatized animals that had been discarded by heartless, selfish human beings like they were a piece of garbage. Shameful, irresponsible behavior.
A really nice person? I highly doubt that. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat animals. Also did you ever hear the saying? Street angel - house devil.
yes this is a very cute breed and is nice its stay small and stay like a puppy but we all should love are pets all through their life at any age god bless💝
Yes. ALL puppies are cute, and too many people get a "cute" pup and then tire of it when it loses its puppy look and behavior. Animal shelters are full of pit bulls for this very reason. Adult Vallhunds are "cute" in the same way as Welsh Corgis are, and their dispositions are similar to a Border Collie's.
This breed only stays smallish in size, it looks nothing like it's puppy face as it gets older. It matures like most other dogs in the face. You have to get a toy breed like a chihuahua if you want to try and keep as close to the puppy face.
I have two dog's that were throw away dog's. The effects and issues that they had from a life given to them from irresponsible people was so sad. If you can't give an animal a life time of unconditional love and care, please don't get one. They do nothing to deserve being dumped at a shelter.
Adopt don't shop! So many dogs waiting for you! Best friends ever. I do not buy. I ask the dog, if he love to become a member of our family. You know if they want. They'll show you. If you like a puppet, buy a puppet! This are living beings and they have feelings.
There is nothing wrong with getting a dog from a responsible and reputable breeder. rescue has always been a passion for my family, a good chunk of family farm is used for the training, Rehabilitation and placement of all kinds of rescued animals big or small. But my personal dog comes from a breeder. My breed of choice is cowboy corgi. He not a pet, he is a working partner. I rely on his skill and instincts to get the job done. My breeders puppies are of the highest quality, they are the perfect balance of corgi and heeler. I have used rescue dogs in the past, none of them had half of the intensity, instincts, intelligence and loyalty my cowboy corgi have. I'm all for folks adopting pets, I think we should publicly exacute irresponsible breeders. But it's not your place to pressure or shame folks into adopting. People should do whats gonna be right for themselves.
imjennylyn 12 very well said. I have known people (myself included) pressured into adopting and ended up having to give up which made worse damage. Many are critical about adopting dogs, then there are kids who need proper homes
@@davidochkaninitotan lots of adoptions fail because folks don't realize what they are bring home. I have seen many different rescues try to pass of one breed for another to make them more desirable. Like a Giant Schnauzer mix, marketed as a Irish wolfhound mix. Or Dobermans with no docking of ears or tails being labelled as a lab mix. Every rescue organization should be completely transparent about every single dog and the negitive aspects of the breed in general as well as the individual dogs. They should offer free group training sessions and regular check ins. And every rescued animal has to be fixed befor placement. Example A few weeks ago I met a lady who had just adopted a beautiful heeler puppy. She is recently divorced and now single mother of a toddler, she had NEVER owned a dog ever. The adoption center let her adopt that heeler puppy. That's the worst possible fit, I asked her why she choose that breed, she choose him because he was cute. She had no idea she just adopted a gremlin, that because of their intensity, intelligence, activity and social needs they are quite hard to train, and are not a breed for beginners. She also was not even warned the heelers are possessive and should not be trusted around young kids. She will end up not keeping the puppy.
Vallhund name have nothing to do with Valhalla the Giant Hall that is the home of the Norse Gods and the Fallen Warriors. Vall is a word with some different meanings, Valla together with dog it means herding Vallhund = Herding dog, Vall could also mean a Mound or Wall, Vall also means Grazing Ground. But in neither of those cases the word have something to do with Valhalla where the fallen Warriors lived, partied, they went out to battle giants died and got resurrected next day.
I love swedish vallhunds, i really want to have one, but there are none in my country, but my dog looks alot like a swedish vallhund, only he is brown, and his ears are not standing up ( if you know what i mean). So he's a mix, but other than that he looks like a Swedish Vallhund.
This breed actually served a purpose not just as a herding dog but as a hunting partnership with humans, anybody who hunted in Scandinavia knows that for smaller Deer species small dogs are perfect just because they don't scare away the prey like bigger breeds does, instead it's locate and communicates by barking showing the hunter where the prey are so it's human partner can sneak up on it, while the prey is not afraid of the dog it's still concentrated/irritated on it because of it's barking. If you use bigger dogs the prey runs for it's life and humans are not so fast we can catch up with it. This is probably the way humans and dogs became best friends from the beginning by working together with something that benefitted us both.
Apartment (city) dogs should not be Herding dogs unless u want to pay damage fees to landlord and have neighbors complaining about barking. As for any climate ? really here in South USA 80 -100 degree days mean the dog will be inside only . The commentator needs a reality check.
Thank you. I have been preaching for years Cow dogs aren't pets. Alot of herding breeds make the transition to pet life well. But breeds created to move cattle have a harder time. Unless you need a cattle dog to move cattle, you shouldn't have one. The same qualitys that make them phenomenal farm dogs, are the same quality's that make them less then ideal pets.
Oh here a funny thing I tell and I think maybe you laugh. It was the year 1975 in a place called Waterford Township Michigan. My friends new miniature doberman put it's head it's really really really really small head in the mouth of His other dog which was a st.bernard. Oh I wonder what the dog with the small head was thinking when he started to notice how dark it was and then,
Yeah well you have to qualify too, die bravely in battle. Old age, sickness, drowning, most sacrifices then you're going to Helheim. This dog is a vallhund meaning shepherding dog, which is not related. The narrator is what she sounds like, an ignorant fool.
Viking is actually a verb, to go viking is basically to go raid and pillage. Norsemen is a better word for the actual people. They were seafarers, explorers, traders and raiders and good at all of those things. Anyway, that was a sidenote. Have a good day, bye.
The Valhund is not for everyone, and you shouldn't be trying to pass it off as if it is. They are HIGHLY intelligent, and can be very difficult to own. Please research any breed if you're going to buy. Also, MORE importantly, research the breeder. Even better....adopt. Don't shop.

They still wag their tails n show affection. No matter what.
