This explained both the not great performance and also made it feel like he got done dirty for trying to be there for his team. 4) I honestly feel like if Watson and the Browns were legitimately performing well and an AFC threat, they'd be less hated because they'd be a new blood rival to the Chiefs. Other than when facing Tom Brady, who was also hated, the Chiefs are 15-1 in the playoffs in the Mahomes era. If Watson was performing well and could regularly beat the Chiefs when it counts, I think you'd see some sentiment shift.
They treated Baker like trash. TBH, they also treated Tim Couch like trash, and let Johnny Manziel drown instead of actually even attempting to help him. It's no wonder why they wanted Diddy Cosby as their QB.
Well, Groper Cleveland and the people who desperately traded for him. Russell Wilson was funny, but this was definitely way, WAY worse! I'm sorry Cleveland fans... You guys should just root for the Buccs until the front office fixes this.
I guess it's @Stevenundisclosed6091. He's the guy right above your comment. He claims the Browns suck because of all the wrongs he's done in his life! Must be a real piece of shit!!!
Joe Thomas needed a better agent. Screw the Browns. Screw what they did to Mayfield. What were they thinking signing Watson? I argued with a Browns fan who said "If DeShaun didn't have those penalties, Amari Cooper drops, and bad penalties he'd be averaging 200 yds and a touchdown!!!!" Wow what impressive stats for someone being paid 1/4 of a billion dollars. Browns fans are deluded beyond belief. Somehow 38 year old Flacco threw 13 touchdowns over 5 weeks to essentially the same team Watson is in now. What a joke! This organization deserves to be terrible for the next 2 decades.
THAT Browns fan is delusional. This one is not. Whatever we thought of the trade, most Browns fans hoped it would be successful because this franchise has tried LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE and had it blow up in their face in new and unprecedented ways (along with the utterly predictable ways, like Johnny Football being Johnny Pool Floatie). And goddammit, why DON'T we deserve to see some freaking happiness more than once a century? But of course the hail mary from our front office blew up in their faces, and OUR faces. A LOT of us would have rather stuck with Baker even if we "overpaid" him. Sadly, he apparently couldn't figure out how to grow up here and HAD to go stink out loud on a few other teams first (per his own words), so Browns fans get screwed. AGAIN. And trash rival fans gloat about it. Also, Flacco is an implosion waiting to happen, though it IS hella fun, but hella stressful, watching him until that point. Even my ignorant eyes could see he coulda easily had another dozen picks last year.
I want to know what sins Joe Thomas committed in a prior life to be a loyal HOF level player….but drafted by Cleveland. That should be considered cruel and unusual punishment.
If you want the laconic answer, I say "ownership". Yes, I know about Watson's reputation and the damage to the QB well with that ludicrous fully guaranteed contract, but none of this would have happened without the person at the top enabling such behavior, especially the latter. Between the Pilot Flying J scandal, and the constant interference with football ops by pitting his football guys against each other, I'm more surprised Haslam does not have more egg on his face, since all this happened under his charge.
One other thing of note would be that Detroit's ascent as an elite team happened right after Cleveland's signing of Watson. So the rest of the NFL had a new Cinderalla story to attach itself to, and all that Cleveland was left with was the narrative surrounding Mayfield/Watson.
1) Watson 2) The way they treated Mayfield 3) The blatant Garrett bias when he’s demonstrably not as good as Watt 4) The fans who went from being sympathetic figures to arrogant jerks virtually overnight 5) Watson 6) The fans who hounded me over Roethlisberger but cheer Watson 7) Watson
As a Browns fan I can tell you exactly why And I don't blame anybody that hates them As long as we have Watson at QB nobody will want us to succeed, and frankly I'm at that point too, I want him gone, never wanted him in the first place Not to mention that Flacco said multiple times during the offseason that he wanted to stay in Cleveland and they let him walk for Winston, another absolute darling of a person (hes at least funny i guess) The Flacco thing isnt something that broke this week, Browns fans have known what happened basically since Flacco signed with the colts if they paid the slightest bit of attention
Has there ever been a player in sports history let alone NFL history that’s gone from nationally loved to hated like Watson has? Crazy af but justified.
Bengals fan, so my hatred of the Browns go way back to my grandfather. He was a Browns fan, and swore he would never cheer for them again when they got rid of Paul Brown. He passed that down to my father, and on down to me. Mind you, adding Deshaun Watson definitely did not help the cause, and it ruined a ton of goodwill the franchise had to the public, but for me it's always back to Paul Brown.
It's like the Browns found a magical lamp with a jinn inside and wished not to be the lovable losers anymore and he went: "Done. You're not lovable anymore."
I know it wasn’t the topic by NO MENTION of the last Browns player to win MVP. ? Brian Sipe (1980) 4,132 passing yards 30 passing touchdowns 14 interceptions 60.8 completion % Lead the league in game winning drives (4) Lead the league in interception % 2.5 Lead the league in QB Rating 91.4 Also Sam Rutigliano made the Browns relevant before Shottenheiner despite losing two infamous playoff games in two attempts . Also Couch isn’t as big of a bust as Brandon Weeden who I’m shocked you didn’t mention considering he was picked at number 22 overall like Manziel and Quinn.
Couch was a Number One Overall Pick in one of the most LOADED across the board Drafts ever, 1999. Donovan McNabb, Dante Culpepper were both Available. Edgerrin James, Ricky Williams, Tory Holt, Chris McAllister, Chris Claiborne, Booger MacFarland, Damien Woody, Al Wilson, Jevon Kearse, Champ fucking Bailey. These were all players that went in the First Round of 1999. These are all players the Browns passed on for Tim Couch. You cannot claim a pick in the 20s is a bigger bust.
@@justinlast2lastharder749 yes you can when A. That qb was overall worse B. Because the WB had a significantly better coach to start off, I mean Couch’s first coach was Chris Palmer who ALSO was David Carrs first Head Coach hmm makes you think, and C. Couch had one of the worse offensive lines assembled and no matter who went to the Browns they would’ve been set up for destruction in those first two years back now you can make a case for when Butch Davis Was HC after Palmer because it was different circumstances but even then that had its own problems , not saying he was the best QB available but he could have had a much better setup
@@justinlast2lastharder749 put Couch on the Vikings throwing to Randy Moss and Cris Carter and you may have had better results than with Culpepper. Culpepper had all day back there just to run an fumble the ball away.

The revisionist history about Baker Mayfield is hilarious. He lost the job in Cleveland because of his own damn actions (not getting the shoulder surgery, losing the locker room, fighting media members on Twitter, etc...). Obviously they shouldn't have replaced him with Sicko but let's not act like Mayfield didn't do this to himself too Not to mention the only 3 pictures from 2 years ago of the fans with the massage jokes were publicly slammed by Browns fans who tried to get the group with the massage table banned from the Muni Lot, Browns fans got the dude with the Free W*tson signed banned on Twitter, and the shirts that said "B give me a massage" weren't sold by Browns fans but rather side street hustlers. The only reason those pictures spread like wildfire was because they were being spread by deflecting Steelers and Ravens fans who loved Big Ben, Ray Rice, and Ray Lewis.
The trade was and is dumb. Baker Mayfield is the only reason the Bears where talked about as a real football team. Now they are just the sorry Browns again. Baker can actually play QB when Watson is cut and can't find a job. Baker Mayfield will still be a starter.
I always used to view the Browns as the lovable losers and I would be happy when they won unless they were playing my team. However, this has changed over the past few years. First there was the Myles Garrett helmet situation, then there was the way they treated Baker while he was hurt in 2021, and when they traded for Watson, I was completely done with them. They’ve completely ruined their image as the lovable losers in my eyes. I’ve rooted against them in every game since the trade. I now consider the Lions to be my new lovable losers and I’ve been rooting for the, since they hired Campbell.
Could not agree more. They also found their QB and kept him because they backed the guy. Now Goff is getting his name chanted throughout Detroit. The Browns are just a wildly inept Franchise
I remember rooting for the Browns when Baker was on the team and they made it to the playoffs in 2020. I love underdog teams. It was pretty easy to cheer for them at the time. Then they ran Baker out of town and signed Watson....I think that signing is when I immediately turned on them. How they treated Baker, attacking his character, only to get someone whose character was in even WORSE reputation? Cleveland's front office and ownership is a joke. At least the Lions are likable now and the new underdog feel-good story to root for. Hope they don't bungle it as well
Nah, he shouldn't even be in the league after he assaulted Mason Rudolph trying to kill him with Rudolph's own Helmet then tried to blame it on Rudolph claiming he used "the n word" to him...which he obviously didn't considering Garrett was promptly jumped by multiple black members of Rudolph's O-Line.
@@justinlast2lastharder749 It's been a minute since I seen that, but I swear Rudolph kicked at Garrett's nuts while he was trying to get up. That would piss a man off too.
Everyone magically seems to forget that a couple years ago when Baker was on the Cleveland Browns everybody was talking poorly about him and how he wasn’t even an elite quarterback. Everybody forgot about how good Deshaun Watson was and that they were at least five other teams trying to get him when he wanted to come back and play after his legal troubles.
Always hated the "Browns returning" angle. The current browns are the original browns in name only and how fucking atrocious they have been is more than enough proof of that.
Deshaun Watson is 100% of the reason. If the Raiders had traded for him I would have ditched them after 30+ years. I'd rather have JaMarcus Russell than a bloody rapist at QB
I could see this team blowing everything up again next season. I mean everything too. Kevin and AB are in danger with how this season has started, Cooper is likely to be traded this season, #4 (screw that guy) might be suspended long enough we can cut him next offseason, and we have a brutal schedule! With all this in consideration, the real chances this team has a top 5 to 10 pick, and a suitable candidate for HC in the building with Mike Vrabel, we might be looking to offload players like Garrett, and Newsome for a full on rebuild. I hope we bounce back and we get some real change before that happens, but the signs aren't looking good for the browns.
We hate what this team does to its fans - poor leadership and cutting Baker loose for a man like Watson who plays like he does and wastes their rest of the team's potential is.
What about Garrett ripping off a QB’s helmet & attacking him smashing it on his head? Could’ve killed the guy & should’ve been charged, banned for life…then he claims the QB called him the n word which was obviously a lie since zero proof came out (like that justify his actions anyway)…that started changing my mind about the Browns
For me, as a Green Bay Packers fan (NFC), I would be perfectly fine having a 2nd favorite NFL franchise from the opposite conference (AFC). One of the closest contenders for this valuable spot would've been the Cleveland Browns. Through a short 4-year length of time (2020-2023), I was satisfied seeing how aesthetically pleasing their helmet and uniforms looked only for the few times it specifically appeared from 5:23 - 6:12. I was fantasizing on the idea if the orange pants were used for almost every game every season and the facemask was brown, the Browns uniforms were right on par with the Packers in proper execution of a "dress code". "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." - Charles Caleb Colton However, in 2024 reality, the orange pants are rarely used since being brought back in 2015, and the facemask was changed from (the name-fitting) brown back to the same white one they used in the years of 1975-2005. I can't understand why the Haslams would cave on the facemask change; it's not like the Browns won any NFL championships with white facemasks during that 30 year timeframe. But the brown facemask has to be scapegoated particularly because of the 2016 and 2017 seasons? That's not fair; it's a travesty. Again, using the above timestamp I posted here, I thought those were the 2 best uniform looks in the Cleveland Browns entire history (right up there with the Packers main uniforms); now they're gone. Plus the helmet as it looked from 2015 - 2023 is a reminder to me of why we can't have nice things which make sense. So for everything I've posted here, I can admit I just don't like them as much right now.
My hometown team did worse than the Browns : signing a player who raped and sexually assaulted his gf with proofs available on RUclips. The trial didn't go through because she dropped charges but many think her genitor forced her to do so. I simply stopped watching my team and unfollowed them on social media. I'm portrayed as a plastic fan by other fans of the team. Browns fan, I know what you feel and hopefully, there will be better days.
Ooooh ho, aren't you cool and edgy. You support Tim Walz, a guy that just said he's become friends with School Shooters...is that why he's your friend?
As a Ravens fan, I feel bad for the Browns, because they're the one team in the AFC North that is never allowed to have nice things. I have no sympathy for Deshawn Watson, though.
I can safely say that Watson is the main reason I want the Browns to fail as hard as possible. I had no trouble with them when Flacco showed up last season, but as long as Watson is out there, I want nothing but misery for Browns ownership. They're toxic AF for giving a sexual predator/rapist that sort of money. Unforgiveable. Watson shouldn't be in the league.
I questioned why Baker played that season injured. I have a sinking feeling in hindsight someone promised him something they were never going to do if they got what they wanted. Which is now biting them… well everywhere.
To be fair, the Browns tend to schedule their contracts in a way to minimize the 1st year cap hit. They did it with Garrett and I think all of their other big extensions.
A good coach would have stepped in and said, "Baker, we love ya but we gotta bench you. You need surgery. Get that and you can start rehabbing and we can get you back to form next season. And if we have a down year that's better draft picks so we get you more weapons." Instead they let him play when they knew he was injured.
They did baker dirty and signed Deshaun to that dumb deal, but the thing nobody talks about is the fact that they got rid of John Dorsey. He should have stayed GM there and just gotten a better coach. He’s been in the front office for the Lions since 2021 and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they’ve been a great young team ever since. Dude knows how to build a football team with young talent.
Thank you for this video. I am a life-long Browns fan originally from Cleveland and this video really sums up my opinions. The Browns did Baker dirty and condemned themselves to living meme status when they traded for Groper Cleveland (yes, I'm stealing that) and will continue feed the factory of sadness that is Cleveland football to the point that all I want for Christmas is a Baker Mayfield Tampa Bay jersey. Continue the great work!
The browns make me completely ok with how I manage my own money. I may spend money I could be saving on candy or chocolate from time to time, but at least I don’t have THAT contract on my resume…
Their QB is the Bill Cosby version of Daniel Jones. Not only did they dupe themselves into a shitty contract, they ran out of cap space and draft picks, but said team that exploited them gets to show them what a real QB looks like.
Everybody is saying Deshaun Watson which is almost entirely the correct answer, but Browns fans have also HEAVILY overestimated how good their team is ever since they won one playoff game 3 seasons ago

If Watson was performing well and could regularly beat the Chiefs when it counts, I think you'd see some sentiment shift.
5) Myles Garrett is the NFL's Jussie Smollett.
They treated Baker like trash. TBH, they also treated Tim Couch like trash, and let Johnny Manziel drown instead of actually even attempting to help him. It's no wonder why they wanted Diddy Cosby as their QB.
It’s literally because of ONE person bro 😭💀
Well, Groper Cleveland and the people who desperately traded for him. Russell Wilson was funny, but this was definitely way, WAY worse! I'm sorry Cleveland fans... You guys should just root for the Buccs until the front office fixes this.

What’s worse than having a predator as your starter? Having a predator as your starter and a predator backing him up. Congratulations Browns.
What they did to Baker. Their ineptitude. Their FO. Their owner.
1) Watson
2) The way they treated Mayfield
3) The blatant Garrett bias when he’s demonstrably not as good as Watt
4) The fans who went from being sympathetic figures to arrogant jerks virtually overnight
5) Watson
6) The fans who hounded me over Roethlisberger but cheer Watson
7) Watson
8) they are orange.
As a Browns fan I can tell you exactly why
And I don't blame anybody that hates them
As long as we have Watson at QB nobody will want us to succeed, and frankly I'm at that point too, I want him gone, never wanted him in the first place
Not to mention that Flacco said multiple times during the offseason that he wanted to stay in Cleveland and they let him walk for Winston, another absolute darling of a person (hes at least funny i guess)
The Flacco thing isnt something that broke this week, Browns fans have known what happened basically since Flacco signed with the colts if they paid the slightest bit of attention

2:52 As a Clarification, Paul Brown didn't leave on his own accord, he was fired by Art Modell.
Are we really asking why is everyone mad with the team employing a known sexual predator. Seriously?
I mean, he wasn't proven guilty at the time. I'm pretty sure he admitted to it after the signing.
They almost ruined Baker’s shoulder permanently and then they threw him into a shitpile for a pervert. That’s about it
Willfully trading for, paying, and protecting a known sex offender usually isn't the greatest PR move...
It's like the Browns found a magical lamp with a jinn inside and wished not to be the lovable losers anymore and he went: "Done. You're not lovable anymore."
Remember when Myles Garrett hit the Steelers qb in the head with a helmet, and then tried to lie and claim he called him a certain racial term.

Also Sam Rutigliano made the Browns relevant before Shottenheiner despite losing two infamous playoff games in two attempts .
I feel the Baker heel turn on him was the start, super predator Watson was the exclamation point.
Ownership getting Deshaun Watson and ditching Baker for him.
Another reason I hate the browns is because of Myles Garrett’s inability to take accountability, preferring to try to ruin someone’s life by lying instead of just admitting a mistake you clearly made. Browns said oh well and gave him 125M a year later
Yeah I agree with you on that.
You could have just shown a pictures of Watson and said. This guy is why everyone hates the Browns now. And you still would have been right.

most of the reason is the GM/Owner the Baker Mayfield treatment and the Deshuan Watson trade
The revisionist history about Baker Mayfield is hilarious. He lost the job in Cleveland because of his own damn actions (not getting the shoulder surgery, losing the locker room, fighting media members on Twitter, etc...). Obviously they shouldn't have replaced him with Sicko but let's not act like Mayfield didn't do this to himself too
Not to mention the only 3 pictures from 2 years ago of the fans with the massage jokes were publicly slammed by Browns fans who tried to get the group with the massage table banned from the Muni Lot, Browns fans got the dude with the Free W*tson signed banned on Twitter, and the shirts that said "B give me a massage" weren't sold by Browns fans but rather side street hustlers.
Hope they don't bungle it as well
Browns: We want an adult in the room
DeShaun: *unzips
Baker Mayfield is currently my favorite NFL player. I loved his insurance commercials.
If I'm Myles Garrett, I'm going to say "If we don't make the playoffs this year, trade me."
Trade him to Carolina.
@@justinlast2lastharder749 It's been a minute since I seen that, but I swear Rudolph kicked at Garrett's nuts while he was trying to get up. That would piss a man off too.
As a Browns fan, let me say, nobody else can hate this team more than I do.
4:47 they're the third* in the Super Bowl era (1976 Bucs and 2008 Lions)
Everyone magically seems to forget that a couple years ago when Baker was on the Cleveland Browns everybody was talking poorly about him and how he wasn’t even an elite quarterback. Everybody forgot about how good Deshaun Watson was and that they were at least five other teams trying to get him when he wanted to come back and play after his legal troubles.
As an ex- and once-longtime Browns fan, I am going to recite this video whenever anyone asks me why I'm not a Browns fan anymore.
Putting the Watson situation aside, the Browns-Texans trade is pretty much the NFL version of the Clippers-Thunder trade a few years ago.
It's not just Watson, but also how they treated Baker
How can you not love Dan Campbell? When he goes for two on the seven yd line down by one to the F'N Cowboys.
Racial slur. #95 was and still is a choir boy. That was his only sin.
"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."
- Charles Caleb Colton
However, in 2024 reality, the orange pants are rarely used since being brought back in 2015, and the facemask was changed from (the name-fitting) brown back to the same white one they used in the years of 1975-2005.
Browns fan, I know what you feel and hopefully, there will be better days.
sad thing is us browns fans had no say in the front office's decisions, yet people are hating the fans...
JD Vance's favorite Browns quarterback is Tim Couch, of course.
Well, Tim Couch is the best QB in new Browns history.
Ooooh ho, aren't you cool and edgy. You support Tim Walz, a guy that just said he's become friends with School Shooters...is that why he's your friend?
As a kid, the first time I heard about this team called “the Browns”, I immediately thought, “Ugh, what a *dumb* name for a sports team!”
The albatross of a contract, and the fact that they dropped a man for a predator... Just one of the reasons
The Cosby face is epic, well done.
I questioned why Baker played that season injured. I have a sinking feeling in hindsight someone promised him something they were never going to do if they got what they wanted. Which is now biting them… well everywhere.
1. Hypocrisy and incompetence
Saw the title and immediately thought this video could have been 5 seconds long with just two words: Deshaun Watson.
To be fair, the Browns tend to schedule their contracts in a way to minimize the 1st year cap hit. They did it with Garrett and I think all of their other big extensions.
I'd rather have my team disliked and actually make the playoffs rather than being loved at 0-16 & 1-15
Watson, the treatment of Mayfield, and the fanbase is exactly why.
A good coach would have stepped in and said, "Baker, we love ya but we gotta bench you. You need surgery. Get that and you can start rehabbing and we can get you back to form next season. And if we have a down year that's better draft picks so we get you more weapons." Instead they let him play when they knew he was injured.
Deshaun Watson and their complete ignorance of good QBs to replace Deshaun Watson.
There is not many other reasons.

As a Former Browns fan it was because of Deshaun before he even took a snap
