It is a really fun game! I don't even really put it in the same category as Octopath despite a few of the similarities I mentioned in the video. I'm definitely going to revisit it myself after they've finished releasing all the content they have scheduled for it in the future!
I do think the game itself does a pretty bad job of explaining some of its own mechanics -- especially status ailments. I'm personally very attracted to mechanically complex RPGs like SaGa so I take it for granted sometimes.
Darn it, I knew I fudged it. And of course this is the video that gets blasted to 5k people. Anyways, thank you for correcting me. "Woo she ar" is actually a pretty easy way for me to say it.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check it out. To be honest, I'd prefer if it were a full 3d game with PS5-level graphics. For some reason the only Wuxia/Xianxia games made in that format are always MMOs. But I'll try this one despite my preferences. Hopefully we're seeing the beginning of more Chinese Wuxia/Xianxia games coming out to the rest of the world.
The funny thing is, I'm the opposite. I prefer the pixel art style and fell in love with the aesthetics. But if the gameplay is really fun (which usually means fun RPG mechanics for me) and I can play it on PC I'll probably be interested. I read a little more about the game and the studio's influences to it before I picked it up too. But I 100% agree with you and I'd love to see more Chinese style Wuxia games come west. This was actually the first one I've ever played and I had a blast with it.
"Martial Arts RPG where you go around learning martial arts styles"
WHAT? SOMEBODY MADE MY DREAM RPG!?
Tbh, I played this longer than Octopath. The moment I got a fight against a Chicken, I know I'll be having a great time with this game. 😂

Great review! And Qigong (or Chi Kung) is pronounced “Chee-Gong”
This game does not get enough attention.
I agree!
The mechanics of this game still confuse me
