    Hi, so I don’t know anything about sewing, embroidery, etc etc., however I want to add it in addition to my customizing art as I already do clothes and shoes with paints, airbrushing, and other mediums. I’m interested in this machine and was just curious about the difficulty of getting into this type of stuff? And actually getting good with the machine, and where you learned? I just don’t want to spend all that money and I mess up the machine for lack of knowledge or something

      Hello and thanks for watching.
      I love my machine. There is a learning curve and nearly three years in, I’m still learning. Everything I know about machine embroidery, I learned on my own…well with the help of online tutorials. With regard to sewing, I’ve been sewing since I was a kid, BUT you never stop learning.
      To this day, I keep copies of what my high school sewing teacher considered the sewing Bible. The Simplicity Sewing Book. You can usually find a copy at Joann’s. That will be the updated version (blue binder). But also, go on EBay or some other place to find out of print books and get the older version. It’s a white book and is spiral bound.
      I have more than one machine, so I only use the Topaz for embroidery. I have sewn a couple of things on it and it works well. But if you can, you want to have a separate machine for sewing.
      Another thing, the Topaz uses metric measurements, so there are conversions involved if you are not a metric system person. I’m not. I never wanted to learn metric, but really, it isn’t bad.
      Lastly, if you are going to get this machine, get it from a reputable dealer. I have one near my house so it works out great for me. The first annual maintenance on mine was free, so if you get the same deal, be sure to get it in for service before the one year deadline. Then take it in at least once a year after that.
      I hope this long winded response is helpful. Take care!

    What’re your setting on and what bobbin thread do you use

    • @ShowMeCrafty

      I use prewound bobbins which I purchase from McDougal Sewing Centers. I use a tear away stabilizer with a water soluble stabilizer on top. My machine settings are the default settings.

      @@ShowMeCrafty what regular thread do you use and what are you settings for the tension at?

      @ShowMeCrafty  3 года назад +1

      @@estevanrojas6759 the thread brand varies, but Madeira is my favorite. I also use Floriani and Robinson-Anton. I decrease the tension, usually in response to the bobbin thread being visible on top. I try to keep it at about 1.8 at the very least.

      @@estevanrojas6759 yes, I have made clothing but not on this machine. Although it has sewing function as well, I only use it for embroidery. I sew on a different machine.
