i wondered the same thing a while back. I use one now too and it seems like it keeps my picking fingers and hand together and more stable and allows for more efficient picking especially when alternate picking. It keeps your other fingers from just flopping around. Thats why i use it at least, just really helps with picking.

@bechboy94 the one with a silver burst is a custom shop fender, made for jim. and the other one is a black gibson explorer. jim said he bought a bunch of gibson from ebay and used a few of them in studio, so that explorer is an old model or a custom shop. but the gibson is basicly just a black explorer, with a white pickguard.
I watch this video just for that part. Laugh then move on. Jim Roots the man.

@TheAmalgamut I think that actually holds his pick so that he doesnt drop it, Ive seen kirk hammett have something similar on his hand a bunch of times and it seems to not only hold his pick but also act as a bit of a pad for when hes hitting the whammy bar. I could be wrong though

@bechboy94 actually now that i saw that guitar other guitar from another video, it's definetly a gibson firebird! i did some searching and it's a gibson firebird studio, ebony. and it's available for purchase! around 1000$ for each.
