- Living in a TINY HOME in the Australian countryside. We're living self-sufficient completely off the grid for a weekend in this tiny home. See a tour of the tiny house, the solar panels and gas / water system, exploring the area, and what life's like in our tiny home vlog.
You may have seen Tiny Home videos on other channels, like A Tiny House in The Forest or a Tiny Home Treehouse so we wanted to explore Living Big in a Tiny House with our own Tiny House Weekend in Australia.
If you want to stay here as well, the Tiny House is called Wilbur and is located in Tallarook, Victoria. We booked through a company called In2TheWild.

“Staring into the heart of Mordor” 😂😂
Well done Stefan, awesome decision!.
If you had a good powerwall installed you can be even more self sufficient.
Beautiful setup & thanks for sharing
Thanks John.
You're using firelighters - yep, you are a city boy!
Lol
I mean if u want to spend an extra 20 minutes blowing on a pile of shouldering tinder then go ahead
@@ricksarkar6680 How about just using some dry grass? It's literally everywhere.
We are not talking about rubbing sticks together here
I thought I recognised the area, I’m just up the road in Seymour. Love the house 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
We went through Seymour on the way home. Nice bakery by the railway station there. Thanks Adam.
@@StefanDrury .
Another excellent video from Stefan Drury, the worlds (only?) extroverted introvert... LOL. Thanks again Stef... Cheers from (not so sunny right now) Ballarat.
Appealing to local domestic bovines by announcing that you're plant based! Gold!
Sir I Salute you.
Stefan, you are a lucky man! A very lucky man!
A living room is not necessary - you have the nature around the Tiny Home. You have a water tank but how does the water get into the tank?
Such a beautiful view of the country around you
Thank you for sharing your great video with us.
Stunning place mate. Quick question about council approval as I’m trying to do this and can’t get any for a tiny home. Did your land already have a building entitlement because of it doesn’t have it the expense can add 50k. From what I see people are just doing it anyway by keeping it at “caravan” specs. But then I. Australia you can’t legally live in a van for more than 60 days a year.So I wouldnt be real happy paying 300k for property then 140 for a tiny I can’t live in. But this is our only chance to go rural.
Some nice hidden cuts in there, Stef. For a moment, I thought you'd strapped an IO550 to the Beamer and managed to get it airborne. 😉
Late to the video I know, but I saw the thumbnail and thought "tiny home.. those hills look familiar!" I live in the Tallarook Ranges you can see from there. Truly off grid 😉 Will keep an eye out for EYZ at YMMB next week!
Is there anything better than Vegemite and Avocado 🥑 on toast Mmmmm, I think not.
Ever thought about a Robinson R22, that would be the trick to the little house on a hill.
Nice one Stef.
Lovely change of scenery, thanks for sharing mate! Hope lockdown isn’t too drastic this time around.
That looks so cool! Excellent way to spend a weekend
Looks enjoyable Stef! 👍
That is awesome Stef.
With yet another lockdown in Victoria any chance to escape to hature is welcome.
All you need is EYR & milkshake, any runways nearby?
Great video again Stef! The "talk to your wife" was great😂
Thanks Bryan.
Love the video Stef keep up the great work
Another nice video. It's good to see someone that likes vegemite and not just someone that uses vegemite as an excuse to have a bunch of butter and a tiny bit of vegemite on toast. On a side note.... I want to see a collaboration with you and Beau Miles......RUclips would explode.
That is so fun. Would love to stay in a tiny home one day. 🏠 Thanks for sharing, Stefan! 🙌
Great video. I love the variety in your content. My wife and I stayed in some tiny and off grid accommodation in Tasmania. Reminds you how much you don't really need.
Thanks Tony, glad you enjoy the variety and I appreciate feedback like that. Yes the simple off grid life is very appealing.
That was so lovely!
Thanks for watching.
Tallarook is one of the most beautiful places in Victoria in my opinion. A relative of mine lives at the railway station and our family visits them as often as we can!
We had a great time there, glad you get out to Tallarook as well.
Watching this with my evening tea and Oats to go brownee. This is a great idea to get away from it all and relax in th fresh air. All you need now is a private air strip right beside the Tiny House haha. Thanks Stef
Very nice! Couple of things, though: you need an airstrip for EYZ, but more seriously, I'd change the combination lock-box for something more secure - see the LockPickingLawyer on this last point!
Talla rook it’s pronounced as. My Dad would drive my Mum nuts by saying as we got close on the old Hume Highway. Beautiful country, great views, Australia at its absolute best.I was wondering why you didn’t go & pick up your wood but you did. Great idea.
love the music in background….sounded so much like sweet child of mine (GNR) who are from a town near me West Lafayette IN USA…..CHEERS to introverts and pilots (like me)
My old man has a saying “Things are crook in Tallarook”. Looks like all was well during your trip though! I’m just up the road in Wangaratta so constantly driving past the turn off on our way to Melb’s. Lovely country 👌
What great weekend for you, love the Tiny House 👍👏👏
I heard you grew up near Biggin Hill. So as someone who is currently growing up near Biggin Hill I thought I'd give you an update. There's a few spitfires flying about sounding incredible. My friend who lives a bit closer to the airfield said there was a few aerobatics planes practicing for the airshow. The weather has been nice recently so plenty of action. action.
Yes I did, we used to go to the Biggin Hill Airshow every year. Hopefully I can get back one day when we’re travelling internationally again soon. Thanks for the update, enjoy watching those spitfires!
Turns out the airshow is cancelled ☹️
Hello Stef what a great adventure! Thanks for sharing!! Blessings from Orlando Florida!
Hey Joe, thanks for watching.
Now THAT was different! 👍👍👌
Your channel keeps suiting me more and more haha
Nice little adventure!
Thanks Bob
Stefan,
Well done!.
I laughed when you mentioned the only person to talk to was your wife, well
maybe that wasn't exactly what you said, I'm
sure she is a wonderful companion, no worries about cabin fever:)
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Random thoughts:
Not one plane in this video. And I liked it! 🙂
City boy starting a fire: brings a fire starter from the city! 😉
@3:58 Steph, did they subscribe to the channel and liked the video? Because I did. 😏
Never been this early! Was waiting for a video :)
Very early! Thanks for watching.
“I made fire”
This is proof that you will be able to camp at the airshow
As long as I have firelighters and maybe drain a little AvGas from EYZ then yep I'm ready.
So close Stefan... we host a in2thewild tiny house on our property right next door to the airport in the middle of the vineyards in the hunter valley. You could have flown....
Nice little video Stef, good job with the fire.. 👍
Cheers Dave.
Ah .. the serenity 👍.. But where’s the pool room 😂. Smashing video Stef , that little house is my idea of “ getting away from it all” . Cheers 👍
Love that movie. Dale dug a hole.
@@StefanDrury . Me too , great fillem as they are known as in Australia . Our joint British humour I guess 🏴 👍
You stole the Tiny Home! :-D We know you did, don't try to deny it :-D We saw the tiny wheels attached to it! :-D
Shhhh 🤫
Cool place. I like it. The place is stunning. 👍
Great video, Stef! Looks like a great spot, thanks for sharing 😊 Did you take Milkshake to meet her cousins? 🐄
Cool vid Stef!
Thanks for watching Randy.
Those two cows were thinking, "We already have grass--obviously. Oh, just another You-Tuber".
Great little trip! Nice video and idea, btw you cheated with the fire lighters 😂! See you in the next one Stef!
I wouldn't say 'cheated', more that I was 'fire assisted' in this one 😂
@@StefanDrury Lol, believe what you will - maybe next time no assistance 😂, jk.
are you thinking of going to the avalon airshow in december
'It's ok, I'm plant based.'
Cow: Are you mad?
I was half expecting you to arrive in a KitFox. More than enough landing area there.
Ha yes that uphill slope would have been a good spot to touch down.
Lid on kettle not up lol, thanks for info and video!
Is the water delivered as there doesn’t seem to have any way of harvesting water?
He did say "rainwater tank".
Hi Who did you get to design and build your tiny house?
Much be a cool experience...👍
Was a lot of fun, thanks for watching.
Kuul idea. Stargazing must have been wicked albeit a bit chilly.
Yeah the night skies were pretty epic up there.
Nice! I also live in Australia!
Where did you buy the tiny house from?cost?
Your wife seems like a lovely person
how is it going
Did you leave Milkshake at home? :-O She could have made new friends there!
Yay
Um how did you get there if your in Melbourne? Because I’m in lockdown right now in Melbourne
This was filmed a few weeks ago.
Oh whoops
Sorry Stef…if you’re keeping that goatie, you MUST buy a Harley Davidson. That’s the rules (I didn’t make them…) 😂
That's fair, I abide by the rules of facial hair.
Nuttelex and Vegemite makes me very homesick 😢
Wait, why doesn't the house just use an electric water heater and electric Stove tops?
You went out there just in time 😂😂😂
Hope you're doing well in this new lock down. Getting my final vaccine dose next week.
Good to hear, all the best.
Do you also own the land around it? How do you power the fridge - solar as well
Hmm definitely a city lad if you're calling Tallarook "remote". I passed by there recently on my way home to Central West NSW from Tassie. All the best with the current lockdown mate.
So what did you think of it? Do you see a tiny house in your future? Maybe a little getaway place?
I could definitely see a country retreat in our future. Something with 800 metres of flat land that I could land an SR22 on...
I been looking for a tiny home like this bt I only have about $4000 budget to build one
Next video... a flyover the tiny home 😎
Yes! I’ll try doing that next time I’m up that way.
@@StefanDrury I’ll look out for it, Stef.
Hi Stef. I've always loved the views and weather in Australia. Especially as a GA nut. Unfortunately I have a huge amount of arachnophobia and the wildlife of Australia always stopped me visiting. Any advice to do with this (other than just "grow a pair" as that's useless).
Honestly I don’t see a lot of spiders in the country here in Australia. But a lot depends on where you go. I find less insects the further south you are. Also if you stick to hotels rather than smaller outdoor options (like a tiny home or camping) you’re less likely to encounter spiders. No phobia is handled by “growing a pair”, we all have things that freak us out. I hope your love of aviation and travel can supercede those feelings for you though. All the best.
I live in Melbourne also, not the greatest fan of spiders, don't see them that often. I saw more spiders in Seattle when I lived there. The biggest wild life I see are birds cockatoos/mag pies etc. Snakes I seen once in the wild in my life.
Where’s EYZ gonna stay ? 😉
Need to put some bush tyres on so I can land it up that hill...
@@StefanDrury would love to watch that 🤣
❤️
What more do you need????
Where’s the airstrip? No point in a tiny home out in the sticks, without an airstrip
100% agree - I tried making one, farmer got annoyed
I am sorry...... however it looked an awful like you were putting the butter on the toast after the Vegemite?
Some fun story telling moments stef! Bonus points for demo’ing the correct application of vegimite.
Yes! Maximum vegemite always 👍
For a person flying planes for living the tiny house maynot seem so 'tiny'
Noice!
That little heart you drew on the window looks like a bum 😂
Who says I was drawing a heart? 😂
Cool but 'remote Australia' is a fair bit of a stretch.
Yo
Shouldn't you sell that old steam locomotive and get a Tesla?
Yes good call. It’s going to happen, we’ve been talking about it for sure.
@@StefanDrury Excellent :) maybe, who knows. I hear it's an adventure having a Tesla :) but overall people love them.
Stef seriously…fire lighters that’s almost un Australian
😂
Wanna start a pole here comment 1 if you use the pyramid method and 2 if you use the jenga method to start your fires. imma a jenga type of fellow:)
Pyramid for me.
You got no idea on how to light a fire!
I think the fire I lit negates your comment, but why do you think that?
@@StefanDrury I mean you should have lit the fire the old fashion way. Pyramid of sticks, some paper and small sticks of wood.
I love it! Looks like you would have had a great time out there in the peace and quiet Stef. Must be a big change from the city life. Great video 👍
That house will be $2m in a few years
WHERE DO YOU SHIT
fi
STEF I DARE YOU TO PIN THIS!!!
This was a great little video!
Glad you enjoyed it, cheers Clay.
