I realize this was done several years ago and you may have touched on it in another video but if not your viewers may appreciate you doing one on how to separate the modern ultrasonic hardstone carved pieces and the hand carved hardstone pieces mainly from Germany and Japan. Although it may have been replaced at some point but I do believe the piece you mentioned was Victorian has a safety catch from the 20th century and the necklace has a foxtail chain and not a book chain. Looking forward to watching other episodes. GD

Lovely collection! I too have been collecting since the 70's when I inherited my Great-Grandmother's pink shell cameo. I fist visited Torre del Greco in '77 and would love to return...just wondering if there are still men in their 80's carving away. I was short on funds and could only get the necklace in a "Three Graces" set and have always regretted that! In '77 they told us once the old artisans are gone that most would be done by machine instead of hand-carved. I got a fabulous large signed piece at the gift shop in Nato Headquarters in '78...she is more modern with long hair...looked a lot like me then! I have amassed a nice little collection but still have not found a coral piece I liked enough to buy...mush be softer as most have the features worn off. I do have nice mother-of-pearl pieces. Thanks for sharing!

My faves are the lava, onyx, and gutta percha cameos. They’re all beautiful. My favorite motifs are the “wild women” followers of Bacchus. The Cupid with the urn of flowers is also nice. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful cameos and very informative. You can tell that some of them are antique by the way the end of the pin sticks out from the main body of the pin. A good example is the lava cameo. Great job.

My mam gave it to me about 25yrs ago because like some of yours it can be a chain or Brooch and I'm mad into Brooch. I think it was that Brooch that set me off. You have Beautiful cameos. My Mother had So many, gifted me some real ones, She Also had an Eye for The BEAUTIFUL mostly Costume Jewelry, some real.. So much Jewelry we would go visit (across the Country) and she would fill her King size bed with Jewelry and then some..Oh I was like my Children,Excited to see what she had, we would leave with so much.. Now I knew better than to say 'I Love This ' She would smile and hand it over.. So I did Not. I would say years & years & YEARS from now I'll have it.. smiling.. Years ago..I lost my Praying Hands Necklace a simle one.. I always wore it,she didn't know what it looked like.. Morher of Pearl and the hands on top.. Back them she sold & bought on the internet..I get a package, a Blue Agate Cameo Davinci style Praying hands..I cried, it was so beautiful.. I still have it.. at work I had left and went back FAST..It was laying on the SPOT I was at.. over the years, a few times I lost it..Once I just cried it was nowhere for a few months. Mant Prayers later It Shows up. To me it is not just a necklace, but hopefully reminds people to Pray.. I am so beyond EXCITED to see more of your Collections.. Thank You for sharing.. If you haven't, you must get a copy! It's about a group of students at an American college who study Ancient Greek and decide to hold a bacchanalia or bacchanal. I'm not sure of the spelling. But they fast and have visions and have the most incredible experience, but someone ends up being murdered! Love it! Do you know why more modern cameos are SO white compared to older ones, which tend to often have more of an off-white or beige coloring? Also, in the video, you seemed like you were going to say something about going to Italy and buying a cameo, but not the junk ones. I'd love to hear the story or some tips on how you find the good real ones and what prices they sell for in Italy now.
Hello! Most modern cameos are plastic or resin which is why they appear so bright. Real shell cameos are cut from a real shell which is beige and off white. My experience in Italy was what they offered in to tourists were poor quality at high prices. Watch my other cameo videos including my newest on mythology in cameo jewelry. That is exactly right! The Romans copied all the Greek sculptures and art! We love the Greek icons of Virgin Mary and have several in our collection as well. Greeks were the first in many things! Awesome!!
Cameo rings in softer materials like coral often lose their noses and other features near the edges due to rubbing against fingers. This sometimes happens to shell cameo rings as well and is the reason that the cameo is elevated in some cameo rings to avoid contact with other fingers. You didn't mention laser cut modern cameos which are "perfect" and intricate because a pattern and machine are used to produce them. These are often sold at extremely high prices. They are almost always perfectly oval and mounted in machine-made mounts where many of yours are slightly irregular ovals set in custom made mounts.
I did mention that there are cameo people in Germany making modern cameos which are not my focus. Yes, I know that about rings. Thankfully none of mine are damaged. I appreciate you watching and for your info! Thank you!😊❤️
