Thank you Joseph for producing this podcast! This kind of volunteering i appreciate as much as donating blood. This podcast sustains me with nerd force.
Thanks for the "Between Two Fires" rec recently, guys. Loved it! I just started "The Blacktongue Thief" and I'm absolutely enthralled. Buehlman is the Mark Twain of the Fantasy/Horror genre.
Fantastic video guys, another great conversation about this iconic horror film, American werewolf, on a side note I grew up in a moors like the opening scene in the UK, and the pub scene its all very realistic how we treat foreigners lol
Rick Baker did build and play King Kong in a ‘real movie’ in 1976 as well but it is true that AWIL is when he officially broke through and won his first Oscar.
A perspective worth looking at - Catherine Lundoff’s “Silver Moon” - looking at lycanthrope through the lens of menopause…I mean, women go through physical & psychological changes at a depth that is even more drastic than the changes of puberty. Especially as women lose their transactional values (charisma as commodity) but gain in wisdom, experience, skills, different career expertise. Love your posts here as always guys. I’ll take any ties to “The Expanse” I can get !
I would argue the original Wolfman movie (Lon Chaney Jr) was the best of the OG monster films (Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolfman). For horror comedy, check out Tucker and Dale vs Evil. Also, let's see a Godzilla, Minus One discussion. Best film of 2023!
I thought the Slaughtered Lamb patrons let the duo leave to serve as bait. I saw this when I was about 10, loved it, particularly the underground stalking scene.
My parents wouldn’t let me watch Silence of the Lambs when it came out, so I read the book instead. So eventually I watched it when I was babysitting for the neighbors, because of course while I couldn’t watch SotL at home, I could babysit for the neighbors till 2am and then walk home alone at 13.
It was almost like it was a were dire wolf, it looked very monstrous compared to earlier wolfman type depictions. This wolf wasn't upright on 2 legs. Still my favorite werewolf film to this day. I also liked The Wolfen with Albert Finney. I think it was the 1st werewolf movie to incorporate Native American skinchanger aspects to the genre.
I am not good as sleeping after watching horror films, but I've found 2 ways around that: watch horror comedy classics, and listen to these guys discuss the rough stuff before I watch. Then I can appreciate it as film and storytelling and sleep well after.
@@squanchy666 I'm catching up on a lot of great movies I was afraid to see all these years. As well as new reasons to like some old favorites. I can't afford to contribute to this channel financially but I can like and subscribe and participate in the discussions for the good that does. Plus these conversations are fun.
The reason they say the road thing. I think. Is 2 reasons. 1. There are more animals for the wolf to eat on and past the moors. 2. If there is an attack. They can find the victim on the street.
Seriously where is mention of bad moon that is a tie (my name is also ty short for tyler) for me along with am American werewolf in London i usually like all fours werewolf better but bad moon does it right amazing two legged werewolf
Only disappointment with this was I thought you were building toward a top 5 horror comedy list and I wanted to see if anyone else loved Bubba Ho-Tep or if it is considered too campy for that list.
This episode went online on Jenny Agutter's birthday.
Well played.

Happy to see Viy mentioned.

Me too man, doing this podcast definitely pays! Lol
Ordered and read it right away. Still thinking about it. Great to find a new author.
American Werewolf In London is a prequel to Ghostbusters! Everybody needs to jump on the Landisverse!
First seen this movie at a triple feature at drive-in. An American Werewolf in London, The Howling, and Wolfen. The 1980s.
Surprised there was no discussion about the original The Wolf Man.
That Russian film they mention is here on RUclips. VIY

You guys have seen more movies than I knew existed. Thanks for all the recommendations!
was I the only one that liked Jack Nicholson's 'Wolf'? surprised it didn't even get a mention.
I remember as a too-young kid being traumatized by watching The Company of Wolves. That one stayed in my nightmares for years after.

Dan Akroyd would've been great in this movie! Remember his brief appearance in Twilight Zone the Movie?!
What a great guest! Now I have yet another entry for my TBR list. Thanks, guys.
Zombies have been my thing since Night of the Living Dead but American Werewolf is benchmark stuff. Also glad Dog Soldiers got a mention.

This show gets me through the week man. Great stuff. We all like the same shit. Feels like I have 2 friends I never met.
Thanks for doing this…👍
Good werewolf movies are in short supply, so I would recommend 'The Cursed 2021'. It's a decent werewolf movie.
I'm unprepared for this episode, haven't watched this movie! But can't resist watching anyways
My god the spoilers, you should have watched the movie first

@@OffRampTourist that's very reasonable, I can dig it

I watched Ginger Snaps since it was mentioned in this episode. it was way better than I was expecting .
I'm surprised The Cursed was not mentioned, thought that was a well done werewolf film.
i live near the moors, its bog marsh made of peat, hills of nothing for miles.
The Howling is also an excellent werewolf transformation. The 1st movie...not the direct to video sequels.
don't shot bears in fear their hp goes up
Turns out Ty is not that guy.
LOL
Should be a good one.
Rob bottin did the howling
I think Red Riding Hood deserves an honorable mention. Apparently it was not well received, but I like it though.
Guy Endore wrote a great werewolf novel
Bad movie or no, I thought the wolf transformations in underworld were pretty well done.
Seriously where is mention of bad moon that is a tie (my name is also ty short for tyler) for me along with am American werewolf in London i usually like all fours werewolf better but bad moon does it right amazing two legged werewolf
It wasn't that scary more of a comedy than a horror movie anybody with a gun could kill it
Only disappointment with this was I thought you were building toward a top 5 horror comedy list and I wanted to see if anyone else loved Bubba Ho-Tep or if it is considered too campy for that list.
Unsubscribed, off to buy some Chick tracts.
