  • AN additional 100 Northamptonshire Police officers will be trained and equipped with Taser this year.
Following the latest review, the Force - along with regional colleagues in Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire - has opted to expand the number of officers carrying Tasers, also known as conductive electrical devices.
Currently, the Taser capability available to Northamptonshire Police is provided by officers who work in the East Midlands Operational Support Services unit (EMOpSS), which provides specialist services to us, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.
Within EMOpSS, there are currently 388 police officer posts that can carry Taser, including roads and armed police officers, the tactical support team and the dog section.
The uplift means that, for the first time in Northamptonshire, Taser capability will be extended to officers in local policing roles, and the additional 100 officers to be trained and equipped will be in frontline response and proactive team officers.

Is there a certain amount of time when joining the Police that you have to be a Constable for, before you can go for Taser or Firearms training, or can you put your name forward as soon as you join?

It's 2 years, I believe until they become taser trained. And I don't think they train special constables in taser.
