The only ‘improvement’ on the 992 that I wish my 991.2 had is the wide body fender proportions. I really don’t need tricky door handles. The full width LED rear light kinda seems cool and high tech but the 991.2 tail lights look better to me. The rear end of a 911 looks so good, it doesn’t need ‘flashy, over the top’ tail lights to get looks. Thanks for producing this model differences breakdown.

stop coping, the rear on the 992 is way better than the 991.2, it's not even close. Also, the interior looks 100x better. I hate how the 991 has all these missing buttons in the middle console, it looks so cheap.

@@DaRkJ4ckHe's just giving his opinion, anyone that can afford these cars is not "coping". I don't like the 992 rear either, though I prefer the front. Steering wheel blocking the gauge cluster in the 992 also irritates me

    • @DaRkJ4ck
      @DaRkJ4ck Год назад

@@fhesseti7976 sure that's fair, but I feel like OP is "coping" to justify to keep his current car and is looking for things to dislike. If he wouldn't own either car, I think he would be more objective and wouldn't have this view.
OP saying "the ONLY improvement" is the wide body, is a joke. I mean come on man, you can't look at the 992 and say that's the ONLY improvement. I mean just look at the interior. Sure, the gauge clusters are blocked, but they have useless information anyway. You don't need to know how warm it is outside. And once you know that the engine is warm, you'll never have to look at the right one either. Fuel running low will be displayed on multiple screens... so idk.

@@DaRkJ4ck I get your point, but tbf people still buy older Porsches just for the look so even those who can afford 992s will still go for 991s and 997s. I also like how the 991 is more analog on the inside, but I do also like the widebody of the 992. Tough one, could also forget both and get an LC500. First world problems right lol

I personally like the lines of the 997…..just a sexy damned car.
I have a 992 in my garage…..and those wide-assed hips are just stunning. I can remember benign passed by one a few years ago…..before I was an owner. It was just stunning. I’ll never forget it.
I tried to catch it for another look. No luck. The next time I got a really good look, was the day I took delivery .
      And it’s still stunning.

Cool car but the wheels are too big, the Braun shaver shifter looks goofy and why can't Porsche figure out how to put proper cupholders in the year 2022???

I just wish they stuck with the separate tail lights design. No modern Porsche's design can beat the old rear lights with a set of horizontal rear grille, and not vertical.

You are correct! It was limited movement, the new 992 offers infinite adjustability dependent on driving speeds.

992 bumper is well below the headlamps. That alone make it a better design.

I'm sure the 992 drives nice, but aesthetically, it's less appealing than the 991. The rounded exterior of the 991 looks better than the squared off exterior of the 992, in much the same way Ferraris look better than Lamborghinis. And the changes to the interior are even worse. Is that a Porsche interior or a Tesla? I'm not usually one to say the old is better than the new, but in this case, at least in terms of looks, it is.

Very nice comparison review. My only concern with the newer e-inspired 911's is the out of warranty costs for repair. As technology improves the incidence of repair will no doubt diminish but at what point does the consumer take that chance? As an owner of a 997 my issues have been pretty much 'nil. (edited to add the question mark)

I cannot speak for the entire world, so you have to check for yourself, but here in the UK I think I am paying ca 1200-1300 Pounds for extended warranty incl EU wide breakdown cover for a 981 for TWO years (911 will be a bit more expensive). So that is like 60 bucks a months, which should not be prohibitive for someone who can buy a 911 in the first place. So that is the way to go and makes your running cost absolutely predictable. E.g. I had a PDLS+ headlight replaced under extended warranty because there was moisture inside - that would have cost well more than 2000 Pounds to replace, so the warranty already paid for itself. Find out what the price is and then there is no guessing. Also, by now I think you can extend warranty up to 12 years on older Porsche as well, after you have put your car (successfully) through the 111 points health check. So Porsche ownership does not have to cost "5000 Euros per year" in maintenance, as some people like to maintain...

991 or 992? Hell I have the latest, the 993. LOL Just kidding about vintages, but Porsche needs to come up with a more sequential series numbering system. I spent some time at the Porsche Experience - Mosport in the 992, both the S and 4S. Nice and phenomenal cars, but I much prefer the instrument panel/cockpit and so many other things on my 2015 991.1 Carrera 4 GTS in a manual. I realize it is a matter of personal likes/taste but those glass panel screens a-la-Star-Trek and the cockpit layout in the 992 just did not do it for me. Which is why I bought a 993 when the 997 was out. I liked the simplicity. By the way, pick a lighter coloured car next time. It was hard to see some of the exterior features in the 992.

992 refers to the generation/platform of each of our cars. 992 refers to the latest Porsche 911 generation. Prior to that we had the 991 and 991.2 (2nd gen/facelift 991), prior to that we had the 997 and 997.2, 996 and 996.2.

7:28 "It's a sports car, you can take it to the race track". Um no. Porsche won't honor the warranty when it breaks at the track.
