Her every performance just reaches me, the way she sings and moves and well everything. Cannot really explain it better. Words always are lacking when explaining strong emotions. So strange to have a young girl/woman from Russia touch my being so well. Would have not expected that to happen for a man over twice her age from a neighbouring country. “Rechenka” is a standout among her You Are Super masterpieces. It is now three years since this performance, and she continues to build her craft and surprise her listeners. Her recent single “I call you Russia” is among the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard, and her cover of Vysotsky’s “Ornery Horses” is an emotional tour de force. Both are on her channel, and run no risk of copyright strikes.

The term singer will never describe, what Diana does.Therefor it's important to discover the little things, happening around her, to see,what she does to people.
You did just that, mentioning that juror and that's to see on everyone of the jury on various songs.

If you wanna have a heavy dose of emotional explosion,go for her Russian songs 'Ornery horses' and 'You survived soldier'. Those are heavy duty doses of emotional power trips, which brought a great number of reactors to tears (me too,at age 60)

Hi! This is not the folklore of the nineteenth century, but much earlier. The text should not be taken literally, it is mostly allegorical. Songs of lamentation were sung before the wedding when the bride was being prepared for the wedding. These songs are similar to lamentations about the dead, it was believed that the girl was dying to be reborn as a married woman. There is no question of any suicide here, it is a sin. This is a modern version compiled from several songs with the addition of all sorts of beautiful things for listeners. You're a river, my rechenka

This song is about an orphan's wedding. This is a conversation between the bride and the river, which takes care of her on behalf of her mother, or, perhaps, with the spirit of her gone mother - on the banks of the river (the ancient Slavs, as well as the ancient Greeks or Egyptians, believed that the river symbolized the border of two worlds, the world of the living and the world of the dead, or a road from one world to another).The girl says that the groom is rich and the celebration is great, but you shouldn't believe the abundance of guests, fun and smiles. Something remains unspoken, this marriage seems to be at odds with the bride's heart. The ending of the entire scene stays uncertain, but the fact that the heroine is sailing in a boat down the river indicates that she decides to go to her mother. I don't think about that choice as a suicide (in a modern sense), this a pre-christian culture where a human beeing is considered a part of nature and a trip to deads is not a sin.
The song itself is very uneasy to perform. Earlier renditions (dated back to 1970-80-ies) were not so convincing. Diana's interpretation is absoltely epic, full of life, sense and emotion. The other special thing, saying nothing about the voice itself, is how delicately Diana uses yodeling (to express the crying) which is not so common for Russian folk tradition (and more associated with Alps region). Folklore is a very conservative genre, actually it consists of rules and patterns which have to be kept without a change... So this performance is not only a real drama with a touch of mysticism, ancient history and psychology, but also an incredible waterfall of very bold and complex music elements. Diana shows herself as very professional inter-human (inter-cultural & inter-epoch) intermediary.
An extraordinary voice, great range and emotional passion. Very unusual in places. (And I see you have a viewer from Russia.) It was also interesting to hear the background of the number.

When I first watched this I knew Diana was telling a story and doing it very well, and that her voice somehow suited the narrative. That probably makes no sense as I had no idea what tale she was telling, but I loved it anyway.

This is an old wedding ritual song, it's like a puzzle, it consists of phrases taken from ritual songs. Where it is sung in a whisper is like the words of a deceased mother, because in Russia since ancient times it was believed that the river is the border between the world of the living and the dead, as in the mythology of others countries. So the girl-orphan came to the river to tell the mother that she was being given away for the unloved, to a strange family, ask for blessings and cry.
"Fastidious Horses" by Vladimir Vysotsky is another great cover by Diana where she expresses great emotion. The song is about a man being pulled by horses toward the abyss of death and he pleads with them to slow down; it is an analogy of our lives passing so quickly. To sing a song by Vysotsky is a little like singing a Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston song; the singer had better have the vocal chops. I had read that Diana's vocal instructor had wanted her to wait until she was older but audiences always ask Diana to sing a Vysotsky song so she did. Try to react to her earliest performance.
This "You Are Super" show has the contestants sing 3 songs each(there was a 4th song for the finalists that year in 2018) -- BUT -- it was performed AFTER the public voting took place, and they could perform with another person/singer etc. Diana's 4th song was "Tomorrow is a Lie". Hey, great review and info. i have been following Diana for a year or more , checked out this review and Human , and they are the best reaction and analysis od Diana and her songs I have seen and have watched hundreds from all over the world .So, well done there. If you haven't done her version of "Wicked Game" , also from U R Super show, it is breathtaking. Don't usually follow people who do a lot of covers, Diana seems to be able to make every she touches, her own. A primal teen goddess of voices.

Thank you for such a detailed review and a positive reaction. Diana "The Queen of Goosebumps" made another great performance and used her shamanic and hypnotising voice again. By the way, the word "rechenka" is not exactly a "river". It is a tender way to say "river", and a "river" itself is "reka" in Russian. Diana pronounces both these words (reka and rechenka) in the song.

Not my thing. So forced, too dramatic, trying too hard. There is so much music on the planet but so many people tend to focus of UK/American/and European acts and mainly the white ones. She's competing here on a game show. And honestly, she's copying "Dead Can Dance", "Diamanda Galas" and Yemenite artist "Ofra Harnoy" who all did it first and did it better.
