Out of all of the complex and intricate pieces Schumann has composed, this piece might be my favorite for a number of reasons. To give some backstory, I’ve always used to play around with my grandparents’ Yamaha Clavinova (I couldn’t recall which model) and, one day while I visiting, found out about the demo songs feature. This piece, specifically Eintritt, was in place for Grand Piano 1’s demo song and I always used to let it play in the background when I was little, just because I liked how it sounded. I didn’t have any idea of who composed it or what it was called, I just knew it as “Grand Piano 1” on my grandparents’ Yamaha Clavinova. Much much later, I finally found out the name of the piece and found out it was composed by Schumann. As you’d imagine, I was utterly stoked upon hearing it. This single piece has played such a large role in my childhood. While I am older now and currently a sophomore in college, I always tend to go back to this piece to remind myself of the innocent and curious years of me growing up.

I listen to the major large Schumann works like Faschingschwank. aus Wien and Kreisleriana and the C Major Fantasy. I come back to to this one as the most brilliant in its simplicity and subtlety.
You've got it on the mark, Howard Chasnoff! That's absolutely right! This is really the most brilliant in simplicity and subtlety. One of Schumann's most beautiful pieces he'd ever written yet so simple! :D
Agree. Each time I listen there is more I can dig out of it. The Eintritt sets the mood. Herberge ends quietly with the same statement as the beginning done so delicately. Only the second time that it is played.
+Howard Chasnoff Yeah, that's another amazing thing - it gets more beautiful the more you hear it. Personally I feel that both Schumann and Beethoven wrote music that gets more beautiful as you listen, whereas some other composers wrote music that you enjoy as much the first time as the other.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel there is some similarity at times to the prelude for BWV 885. Both use dotted rhythm, and at times it seems 885 is quoted. Perhaps just coincidence?

"Nicht zu schnell" means "not too fast", but the pianist rushes through like an ICE with highspeed. The ideal speed in my opinion is 30 - 40 % slower, all the nuances are lost otherwise. Fortunately i have a timestretching Speed Control plugin in my Browser :)
In 1, "Eintritt" The first repetition is wrong, Pires omits the second half of the eighth bar
WHAT? Murakami mentioned it too? I must have overlooked it. No, I am reading The Picture of Dorian Grey right now and that's why I'm looking this song up. But it baffles me that it has been already mentioned in one of my fave books, Wind Up Bird Chronicles, as well lol. U also need to read The Colourless Mr. Miyazaki or smth.. forgot the name. There, Murakami brought me to one of the most beautiful pieces ever written, and that is Franz Liszt' Le Mal du Pays!
Some pianists purposely omit the the second half of the measure because some people feel it’s imbalanced. Which I agree that’s part of Schummans charm. But I guess in this case it’s doesn’t seem like there’s isn’t much reason to create a contrast how the beginning is played again, it could make that half measure make that part feel a tad longer than it needs to.

Same here, the model you are looking for might be CLP240 or 230 i think. :)
Same here also, good memories

I must say this is some of Schumann's best work

Listening to these Schumann pieces is the music equivalence of reading something truly magical. Love it.

Sen der Even In Einsame Blumen, a very simple piece Schumann uses irregular phrasing. 4 measure phrase followed by a six measure phrase.
@@sender1496 that was from the straw line twister yesterday

I love the fourth piece Verrufene stelle! One of Schumann's most interesting pieces I heard

Merci!
wonderful beautiful music
One of my favorite pianists. Beautiful smooth technique.
Very good played and a clean Interpretation , have a nice day.😊
The Picture Of Dorian Gray brought me here.
Oh my god me too *high five*
whaaat ive read that and didnt notice! pray tell, where is this marvelous work mentioned?

auspicious ! thanks nicky :) [eg my name also contains 'nick' so the prophet bird seems to be doing its work]
• Zomedia • me too! Haha
_Vogel als Prophet_ reminds me of Scriabin, amazing that this was composed in 1849!
True; at times, even of the impressionists' fetish for fleeting filigree notes.

I thought it was Schubert who composed this! Wow....its amazing how Schumann composed something that sounded so schubert.
How would you describe Schubert's music?
@@CougheePls it sounds like Schubert. No words can describe it
@@CougheePls Highly melodic and spontaneous, I think
Beautiful. Maria has very nice balance and subtlety for these pieces, for example the left hand in 10:27.
With Pires, technique is always subordinated to the music -- the true source of her brilliance.
Agree :) She's one of my fave pianists!
Vou levá-las emprestadas, Basil! Preciso estudá-las... São encantadoras!
Pires does have brilliant technique!!
Agree :))

yes, hans a little too fast, but maybe 20 percent??
I actually really like this one, for Schumann
What's your favourite?
Great portuguese pianist!
Great pianist!
Francisco Campos Lima, isn’t she Brazilian?

I made reference to the fact that she is portuguese to show that it is not only in football that Portugal has Cristianos Ronaldos!

I love Pires but the tempos were a little too fast for me here overall. Vogel als Prophet and Abschied were perfect. What a beautiful set of pieces.
Hah, since I heard Volodos play these I can't hear any other interpretation :-)
Yes - Volodos interpretation Live in Vienna is the best!
yeah OpusTravels

Wow you're right actually
Also it says „Not too fast“ and he plays it way too fast, while completely ignoring the staccato in bar 5-6. Horrible interpretation.
Pope Francis I agree with you👍🏻 I don’t like his interpretation :/
@Franscessa Colla Pires is a she, not a he
I agree. A student has said me the same thing, that I haven't noticed yet until 3 days ago...
Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy brought me here.

Who’s here because Silent hill 2 remake ?
0:15 is it a mistake or did she intend to omit the second half of the measure?
it must be a mistake because it kinda takes away the charm of many of schumann‘s pieces with shifted measures and weird off-beat entrances or hemiola.

sorry but SH2Remake brought me here

There' s no phrasing.
Phrasing ✅
Horrible version... always too fast, totally lack of poetry. This is not Schumann
hah
Totally agree. But at the same time, this is not Schumann's best work. He wrote far better things
