The busts aren't Lego's fault, it's Disney. If you're familiar with statue collecting, you'll know 80% of licensed Marvel statues over the past 5 years have been busts from 1/4 scale to full 1/1 scale with photoreal faces. Disney is pushing these busts so hard that they're even popping up in other mediums.

I think it's just kind of disappointing that Infinity Saga sets don't really encompass the... well... Infinity Saga. Most of the minifigure scale stuff is just from Endgame, with the exception of the Iron Monger set (which is IMO the best set of the line) and the 4+ set with Captain America from the start of Age of Ultron. I feel like the direction SHOULD be that they return to minifigure scale sets for movies that didn't get great representation in the past. Maybe a revisit to Captain America The First Avenger, and Winter Soldier? What about Thor 1 and 2? Though I'm not a big fan of those two movies, they didn't get any set representation, which is a shame.
My other issue is that we don't get many sets inspired by Marvel comics. One thing I loved about The Daily Bugle is that it wasn't based on a specific movie or cartoon series. It was a Spider Man set heavily inspired by the comics, including characters with bright colour schemes. I'd love to see more sets like that on the more affordable side, and not just for Spider Man either! Classic Avengers sets would be cool to see. Hell, Lego Marvel Superheroes 1 and 2 (the video games) already have blueprints for some of the characters and figures.
Of course, my hope is also that these sets are well-designed, and not just focused on play features. But that sort of goes without saying.

Avengers tower would definitely be best at the rumoured price. Esp if they based it on the first Avengers film. Then you could have some New York street side builds of some of the wreckage like cars, Chitauri vehicles, all the original Avengers with high detailed prints (the least realistic thing, they’d never do that in a Marvel set), could get Erik for the first time at the top of the tower, have the Hulk/Loki scene, maybe even have 2 Captain Americas so they could do their fight scene from Endgane. One thing that's interesting is that T'Challa was one of Mark Stafford's original concepts while designing the Iron Man helmet to introduce the series in the Marvel subtheme. He has claimed that he was unable to get the shaping right, so they went with Iron Man. A set that... well most people think looks iffy. This excuse was, apparently, what warranted the Black Panther bust being the scale that it is.
What I'm curious is, however, why does Mark Stafford have to be the one designing these helmets? Adam Grabowski did great on the overpriced Batman cowls. He's on the Super Heroes team. Why not give him a chance to try? Why not Justin Ramsden? Literally anyone other than Mark Stafford? If he can't do it, then have someone else at least try.

  • @EvolutionSquare

HOPEFULLY (if the rumors about it being the Hulkbuster are true but not the Mark 1 bit) it's the Hulkbuster as part of a larger "Wakanda Battlefield" set. Which would include the Hulkbuster mech and either a Wakandan building, or one of the spaceships those creatures arrive in. The minifig selection could then potentially be *excellent*, including all the superheroes (and perhaps villains) involved in that massive battle.
By using this particular Wakanda scene that involves the Hulkbuster, it has a tie to the new Black Panther: Wakanda Forever movie, making the set more topical.

The problem with the Black Panther Bust isn't just that its Black Panther, its the fact that its a boring bust instead of an interesting building with cool minifigures. I haven't heard a single person who likes the idea of spending hundreds of dollars on a boring head and when there are so many expensive sets nowadays to choose from, each one needs to do everything it can to stand out and be valuable to collectors, which this bust doesn't do. For one hundred dollars less you could buy the Bowser statue, which is somewhat similar in concept but way cooler as you get a full character and not just a head and its in minifigure scale (if lego ever finally gives us mario minifigures). Plus Bowser is just a way more iconic character and a way more interesting build than the Black Panther model.

Imo, Lego needs to stop releasing sets for every movie. Instead, they should make the comics side of the Lego Marvel theme more robust, and release sets with multiple desirable characters. I see no reason a movie like Spider-Man No Way Home should be getting the same number of sets as Thor Love and Thunder or Shang Chi, and the shows to get nothing. Instead, there should be Avengers sets based on nothing in particular, and maybe one includes Mighty Thor, She-Hulk, and Shang Chi, and they drop some of the crappier sets. I don't think we need these sets that get a tiny bit of excitement when the movie comes out and then sit on shelves for the rest of the year.

So I feel they are reaching out to other people which no one is gonna like this price. Lego marvel is just over saturated at this point. And vehicles and sets that are at the minifig scale. Everything else is wasted on me. I don’t buy buildable figures, or gauntlets or hammers or baby groots because it’s not what I want or like. And I mostly want new characters because of m tired of having to design and build my own custom characters for all the ones Lego fails to make. Fortunately many of the pieces needed to create very good Mocs exist but it would be better to make them and then in there sets… not giant UCS sets and then that’s the only way to get 1 or 2 figures. I hate that and will not buy or participate in that nonsense. Again my focus is on minifigs and minifig scale vehicles and locations. Now, I personally am a Mech-lover. I absolutely adore mechs to the point one of my favorite LEGO themes is EXO-Force, and any time a neat mech was made I jumped on the purchase. Even as we speak I'm waiting to see if that Ninjago combiner mech goes on sale soon, because I'll snag one up instantly if it does.
Now, with that said, I also agree the marvel mechs need to freaking stop. I'm not even someone that buys LEGO Marvel stuff outside of the LEGO Batman movie sets of which I only really have three, but I completely agree on this issue. Mechs are cool as hell, and I absolutely love them, as stated above, but I love them specifically because they were fun, creative, and often had wide variety in design. Bust most importantly, it's because they were designed specifically to be for what ever line they were made for.
LEGO Marvel has none of this criteria for it. The mechs are all cookie-cutter mini mechs with almost no differentiation, there are tons of other things they could make in their place, and honestly the only good mech set I can say LEGO Marvel has had of recent is the Iron Monger. If LEGO brought back EXO-Force then my wallet would scream as I pull its' paper guts out to fuel my addition, but LEGO's constant Marvel mech releases are lazy, boring, and take up space much better sets deserve.

I'd absolutely go for this Hulkbuster set.. if the Hulkbuster in question didn't look so bad. It just doesn't really look like what's in the movie, or indeed all that good at all. The chest appears far too flat and out of proportion. The pelvic region and all the joint areas are similarly strangely shaped.
I get that this isn't an easy model to make by any stretch, and I'm sure the designer did their best.. but ultimately, I don't really think that this one should have been greenlit for sale.

okay i agree with the idea that a black panther mask (i think it looks bad) is quite dumb, if they really wanted to do that why not an activated version of the suit, with UV reactive or clear purple bricks to accentuate the vibranium powering up. Or alternatively if we are going to the character side of things why not a suit they've never made before (iron man)?

These are adult focused sets, something you claim in this video that you want. This is an adult display model of Hulkbuster MK1 similar to the recent Bowser. The flaws in the previous version are why they are doing this new version. The choice to do the MK1 Hulkbuster makes a ton of sense because it's the most popular Iron Man related aspect, the MK2 was barely shown and the design was less iconic. The only flaw in this set currently is the pricing of $550 for 4049 pieces however you don't even seem to take into account the size (60cm), piece count or the sheer size of the pieces - a lot of them of which are going to be brand new and exclusive to this set.

I feel like part of the problem would be fixed if they did something with the Marvel like what they did in the mid-2010s with DC. I remember back then Lego would put out sets that weren't based on a current movie/tv show/etc. but instead would make ones just based around the characters of DC. (I think some people call them "comic sets"?) For example, they made sets like the Joker's amusement park that was essentially Lego creating an original design loosely based on locations from the DC universe. I feel like doing something similar and making some Marvel sets that aren't tied to the MCU could help expand on what they can do with the IP.

The 2019 Hulkbuster, 2022 Thor's Hammer, and $350 Black Panther Bust, they're great sets and highly detailed, but that doesn't take away the fact that the concept sucks, it won't sell. This would probably end up going on sale for a long time similar to the 2021 Eternals sets... If LEGO produces another Hulkbuster, and my prediction is it's gonna be a Mark 1 because the leaked fig is Iron man MK 43, I'm gonna stop, at least for a while, cause there are other themes I should check out, I just can't always put up with Marvel. It sucks.
My solution for LEGO to produce, which is not gonna happen, is location sets. I really want a Modular Large Scale Avengers Tower or UCS Avengers Campus/Compound. And to back up my point, most of the Marvel sets are primarily vehicles (about 75%), where the heck are you gonna put them for storage. Not in plastic drawers! Also as for a storyline, where are the Avengers going to save the day with their vehicles?
The MST interview with Mark Stafford didn't really give us hope for the theme, IMO...

04:05 no the character to start a big bust series shouldn’t have been Black Panther, it should’ve been Wolverine.
And I agree about the Hulkbuster $500 set. It shouldn’t be happening. I’m hoping that it will be better than I think it’s gonna be but I doubt it. I’d love to see it being so big that it has a separate buildable figure style Iron Man, like the set that’s currently out but better, but again I doubt that’s gonna be the case.
Really the $500 set should be an Avengers Tower set that is built like a modular building in the same way the Daily Bugle and Sanctum Santorum was done.

Oh man. The armourys, they have failed on that so hard.
2019 hall of armour was brilliant. Yes we got the mark 50 again but never seen so many iron man figs circulate on the 2nd hand market after this came out.
2020 Armoury, it's an expansion on hall of armour, good, same compatible pods but god damnit it's not an mcu set. So the new suit figs are from the game
2022 Armoury, good back to MCU but we've only 2 new suits, 2 youve already had and it's not compatible with the old sets. Ffs
This was such an easy concept. They could have made these sets the same for years. All they had to do was to keep releasing the pods with 3-4 new suit figs and some workshop gimmick. .

I was so excited to finally put something next to my bugle with a bit more size than the sanctum. This set is a huge let down for me and probably a whole lot of others.
