Most likely couldn’t have toured it but definitely could have recorded a video performance in a studio… OR at least documented their recording process on video damnit
@@birdzzzondayflu2489 If you haven't, look for the book by Phill Brown called "Are We Still Rolling?" He was the engineer on Spirit of Eden, Laughing Stock and Mark Hollis' solo album. Those 3 chapters are a must read for fans of these records.
So wonderful. I was searching RUclips for some live Talk Talk from this period and this was all I could find. Honestly, I’m really pleased I came across this. Really nicely done.
I think it was more that he felt that to have it all transcribed and then learned by others that weren't necessarily involved in its original creation would have killed the spontaneous and the improvisational, the whole reason for it existing in the first place. That being said, I think you're absolutely right, I'm sure he'd have listened to this and smiled.
I know you're a talented artist in your our right but your voice is perfect to cover MH without sounding like your simply mimicing him. Fantastic. Look forward into delving in your other work.
This is just magic guys! Thank you for caring enough to document the performance for those of us that couldn't be there... it's fantastic to see... love love love!
Came expecting to react quoting Samuel Johnson - “it is like a dog walking on his hind legs. It is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all”. But it’s actually quite good. Great musicianship, well done. Thanks for the homage to Mark Hollis and Talk Talk.
Just came across you guys, and when i saw the heading i thought another butchering on the cards! How wrong can a person be? To do justice to a song like this deserves my undying respect, and now i'm about to check out Desire!
@motelghost477 The music industry from the late 80s through late 90s was facing radical changes with fast paved rhythm that even professionals were struggling to follow. Beginning from music genres to the way it was reproduced. So from pop we went to aor to grunge. From buying vinyl records, we shifted to cd's which later were ripped to mp3's , which led to downloading it and streaming. So Mark Hollis was not completely wrong as his music ingenuity was recognized years later. And another preventive factor was that major record labels were a bit reluctant to promote a record that will not sell to audiences or was difficult to listen to. Thus said, Spirit of Eden and later Laughing Stock, were totally emotional records that you should have the appropriate mood to like them. They should have continued performing live but on a more selective way that fans surely would have appreciated
Mark Hollis was wrong to think these amazing songs couldn't be performed live. Such a shame we don't have any live Talk Talk from 1988 onwards.
no he was right, its not possible, his voice is lacking the spiritual dynamics, the band plays it totally wrong

This is an incredible cover. Couldn't have imagined anyone would really be able to pull off a cover from this era of Talk Talk, but man...

Fantastic! Thanks for keeping the music alive.
Wow, so perfect. I remember Mark said something like it would be too hard to play it live. He would be so proud of you :)

I'd slow this down slightly, but otherwise mystifying perfection, huge kudos.
Please come to Amsterdam.
We'll try!
Good Work!
Thanks so much!
It works well
I also think you stunned the audience. They got quiet didn’t they!??
Even vocal resembles the original, I enjoy this
Good job.
