    Oh my...if only ya'll knew!!! I was raised in Bladen County, North Carolina and know exactly where Mr. Daniels is singing about. I am from Dublin, not too far from Charlie's hometown of Elizabethtown. There wasn't much to do where we came from, other than work. So, on the weekends, we use to gather up with a twelve pack and some grass and go to places like "the Maco Light," the "Cape Fear" river, and "Wolly Swamp." I know for certain younguns, this is no "Boogie Man Legend," nor is it simply a song. This is a real folk song based on a real place with real history, and real characters that will haunt all of us back home forever. "If you care to take a dare," I'll show you a place "where the ground is always wet!"

      I don't believe you

    • @dotaylor1
      @dotaylor1 7 лет назад +2

      You should not believe me...or anyone else. You seem like an intelligent man, full of curiosity, and the backbone to seek and find the truth. Ask your father, or mother for sure. Why you find it hard to endure. The truth that is told to thee, may not be just a fantasy. But, rather a truth that has been untold. So much longer than your very soul. Which color would you choose...black darkness, white light...it's all up to you. Hope you believe in the gift given you!

    • @Petefx86
      @Petefx86 7 лет назад +6

      First, let me say that I never lived there or even visited. But I have a great imagination and can visualize a great story quite well. This song used to scare the shit out of me when I was a kid. Still does. I also believe you when you say this place and that ghost is real. "There's some things in this world you just can't explain." I wonder why no one (to my knowledge) ever wrote a book or made a movie about this. It would of course, take the right producers and directors and a lot of help from locals who know this story and can make it come to life (no pun intended) with the right amount of fear, and most important, the proper respect for the area, it's people and it's culture. And of course, the legend. Without turning it into another cheap cheesy teen horror flick. You should all demand that respect before the first page is written or the first roll of film is shot. Ah, but second thought, sometimes movies just screw things up. I've seen many a great story, both real and not, get ruined by making it into a movie. Maybe this story should just keep being passed along through the generations and stay in the deep, dark corners of everyone's mind. Where some of the scariest things ever seen, both real and imagined, still live.

    • @dotaylor1
      @dotaylor1 7 лет назад +6

      Are you serious? You have to read it from a book, or watch it on a movie. Bo, let me tell you something. Something that your mother and father did not. If you have to read about it, or watch it unfold in a movie, you are over-protected. Some things in this life are very true without publication, and many things are not, no matter how many books or movies you read or see. The Bible is real. Spirits are very real. Where is your soul?

    My neighbor called and wanted me to take the backhoe up to some woods on his place and bury a cow for him. It was getting close to sunset when I made it through the swamp and found the cow. This song came on the radio in the backhoe about dark while I was still digging. Ha, I was rocking out and thinking I need to finish up here and get out of this swamp.

    It's an honest-to-God urban legend. Wooley Swamp is a real place, just a few miles outside of Carver's Creek, North Carolina. The shack can be found in the swamp, and people still claim from time to time to see the ghost of Lucius Clay.

    I'm not big on this type of music usually -- but this is excellent. Driving, wonderful story, well sung and performed. Wouldn't it be cool to see this performed on the Grammy Awards?.....Ha....probably not in my lifetime though. There's creole music, zydeco, country music, there's blues -- but this is swamp music of the tallest order...just as important to Americana. I'm from NY and I am proud my Southern brothers can whip up this type of music. My Yankee cap is off to you.

  • @DoubleVisionandco
    @DoubleVisionandco 12 лет назад +1

    I'm aware of that, I was saying this is not the original version of the song. Many artists that have gotten up in the ages went back and redid they're greatest hits, such as Merle Haggard and it's instantly reconizeable it's not the original version as when they redo it they change it and it don't come across the same as the original even when it's the same guys redoing the song.

    I am familiar with the Carvers Creek area,it was just down from my great grand-parents home maybe 15 miles and those who don't know,Charlie Daniels is from Leland,NC.
    The mention of Wooley Swamp hushed up alot of us great grand children,but for us it was grandparents just scaring us all.Legendary song non the less!
