Great Episode as always, just a small correction. Madoff isn't currently serving time, he's dead; well... he died in prison. Nevertheless Chris Amazing episode and great value. Cheers
Bobby is one of the best - if not the best - characters that have ever created in any tv-series. Hopefully, there would be a movie about him in the foreseeable future.
That whole section on setting up a hedge fund sounds so complicated and involved. I had no idea so much went into something like that. Granted a lot of that is your personal style, but its very complex.
Your welcome. It is my pleasure. It’s funny that you mentioned writing articles for your new venture. I started about three weeks ago. I write at least one article a week sometimes two. I post them on my website as a blog and just add the link on my company’s LinkedIn profile. But, I’m going to start writing them directly on LinkedIn. Once I figure out how to do it :). I also repurpose the videos I create and turn them into them as articles. Maybe a book will be next. You probably do not remember, but you told me about doing a pitch deck for my startup. I really appreciate the advice. All the best.
To establish a track record: start an "incubator" hedge fund with four partners -- 3 investors who put up cash and you take 25% of the total profit made over a 3-5 year period.
Something has always confused me on the fees. If person A invests 100mil and the management fees are 1 and 10. Does the 1 million annual management fee come from the 100 mil or do they actually have to pay you the management fee out of pocket every year?
Great question. Unlike investing in Venture Capital or in Private Equity, once an investor wires the money to the Hedge Fund, they never have to send additional money; the annual management fee (i.e., 2%) and incentive fee (i.e., 20%) is deducted from the investor's account, kind of like fees on our bank account. When it comes to other alternative asset classes, like Venture Capital (VC) and Private Equity (PE), investors "commit" to investing a certain amount. Then when the VC or PE firm finds an investment to put in the fund, then the investor gets a "capital call," meaning a phone call saying something like this: "We just found a company to invest in. We will make it 10% of our fund, so please wire 10% of your committed investment to us." Note the 2% and 20% fees are also deducted from the VC or PE investment, just like with the Hedge Fund fees.
Thank you for this Chris ! Shoul i want to start a fund/partnership similar to Warren or how Monish Pabrai started his fund which of your courses is comprehensive enough for me to get started ? I look forward to your reply
I just started watching this series. I am almost done with the second season. The stock market has been a fascination with me. When I to Bobby Axelrod, Dollar Bill or Taylor discuss their strategies on when and to buy, it is over my head. I would love to know where I could learn the basic administrative techniques they know.

Apparently they are writing a few spin off TV shows.
@@chris.haroun I believe they are focusing on the pre and post Billions? Something like Trillions.
I heard that too. One called Trillions in Miami and called Millions in London. No details on the cast yet.
Thank you for this. I love this episode. And your sense of humor is cool to me.😁

Never understood people who date at work. I’ve never been interested in anyone I worked with anywhere, even when I worked in nightclubs
If you work crazy hours that's the only people you know.
