Sainsbury's and Aldi soup are made by Baxters, and they make it for the new supermarket chain that l work for. Heinz also get other manufacturers to make some of their products, especially frozen ready meals. Totally right swapping down to supermarket brands, my mam told me years ago people would hide their Aldi shopping in Sainsbury's bags or M&S shopping bags out of fear of being looked down by their neighbours, pure snobbery in the early 90s.Heinz ready meals and lceland ready meals are made by same manufacturer.
Oh the days when people say you're scummy for shopping at Aldi and Netto 😂 now everyone shops there and buys Primark clothes. I wore my Active trackies with pride and anyone who "took the piss" told them their an idiot for paying over the top for extra stripes 😂
You're absolutely correct it's like old favourites that people believe to be separate companies are not, like Mr Kipling cakes and Ambrosia custard just to name two of hundreds are owned by Premier foods and like Unilever have gobbled everything up✌️
I'm a sad old bloke living on his own. When the kids were at home and my wife and I were together, I cooked everything from scratch. The only tins allowed contained tomatoes, as an ingredient in soups, stews and so on. Now, I find it too much bother to cook meals just for myself and I'm relying more and more on tinned and frozen stuff. Your videos are very useful in showing me what's worth having and what's not. I've been stocking up on tinned stuff lately, as prices are going up but my income isn't. I figure that everything is as cheap now as its going to be, so I'm better off buying as much as possible now, rather than waiting until it's gone up. Prices seem to be going up every week, and not by small amounts. We're heading for a tough winter.
Put a few baby potatoes with the aldi one and you have a good dinner, as they say cheap and cheerful. Big brand names doesn't mean that's it's any better, it's what you like and what your pocket can afford.
Maybe stating the obvious here but for anyone who doesn't know: Best thing for saving money in my opinion is getting a pressure cooker. The energy cost for pressure cooking compared to normal oven cooking is 70% less. Put a load of beans, lentils, veg, potatoes, a few herbs or spices, water and stock in and cook for 45 minutes to make a few meals.
pwecko you need to get back into batch cooking, not stock piling this sort of shite! make big portions and freeze it, get it out when you fancy it, remember these companies are here to make a profit out of us, we need to get back into making food from scratch! Some brands may offer cheaper alternatives but trust me its not cheaper for your benefit its cheaper so they can take advantage of those who are struggling and those who think they are saving money! Most foods have a Minimum of 100% mark up on the cost, so come on people, grow your own where possible, make food yourself and stop been bloody lazy saying you dont have time! We all have time we just lack motivation!

I’m a lorry driver and I collected a load the other day from Baxter’s and it was soup for Aldi the Tomato and Choritzo and cream of chicken and Smokey bacon so you’re getting a premium product but in Aldi packaging. Great vid as ever Gareth

Stopped buying Heinz soups a few years back as the quality seemed to have plummeted. I felt they'd started to bulk out their vegetable soup with thickeners and the flavour seemed more synthetic. Bought some ALDI croissants the other day and was pleasantly surprised by how tasty and textured they were. Another eye opener review, keep it up.
Aldi is a good quality , good priced supermarket . My only gripe is they run out of stuff quickly . I have noticed recently their tinned food shelves have been almost empty 👎🏻
Heinz has increasingly become unaffordable in my home. For a while I've been having Tomato and basil soup, but once my stocks (a dozen tins) run out that's it. The price increase was Prohibitive. I do like a chunky soup but find the meat lacking in all. Great video. 👍
Nice timing on this one G man. I was only looking at these chunky soups at Tesco the other day. The Tesco own ones were very nice and just as good as Heinz. I have had that beef and vegetable soup, and I have to say that it tastes a bit odd to me, and I avoid it. The Chicken and Veg one however is sublime. I have probably eaten 200 cans of it in the last couple of years. I just don't get tired of it.
Im a fan of the chicken and vegetable also, i try to always make sure we got some tins of it in the cupboard. Problem is, my missus gets her mits on it all the time, so i have to hide a tin or two just for me. 🤫
Some of these cheaper soups, make a brilliant base for a sauce, especially when done in a slow cooker. Throw in your choice of herbs & spices & some chicken (or whatever) & you've got a decent, hearty meal. So easy to do as well......👍👍

Gareth, since watching your comparison videos and reviews, I have been going to both Aldi and Lidl as both stores are across the road from each other where i am. Have to say that the products I have bought have been really excellent. Can truthfully say I haven't missed any of the more expensive name brand items and the main 2 or 3 other big Supermarkets i used to regularly go to. That has really surprised me. Plus, have been saving quite a bit of Money by doing so. That's been clearly noticeable. Bramwell's range has been very good from Aldi. Had both the Beef and Chicken with Vegetable soups and they were both great, as was their Chicken Noodle soup. No looking back now, wish I had done it sooner. Great video as always, thank you. I used to buy stuff from Sainsbury's but when the cost of living crisis started I went to Aldi and what I spent nearly £15 on in Sainsbury's cost me just over £7 in Aldi and the quality is just as good as Sainsbury's and quite often better so it's Aldi for me every time now. I much prefer the look of the Aldi soup and for the price it's an absolute bargain, thanks for the excellent reviews.
Tried one of these a while ago. wasn't impressed, but looks like they may have improved the recipe. Worth a try. Like the Chicken and veg too. One to get though Gareth is the Minted Lamb soup in Asda. it's lovely :)
Having been a shift manager in a food manufacturing company. We used to make ready meals for the likes of Tesco up to Waitrose. The ingredients are all sourced from the same companies.. but as you've correctly said, it's the herbs and spices that are more predominant in the expensive product (also sugar content) so personally I'd buy the cheaper and just add a dash of brown sauce/ Worcester sauce/ soy sauce .. whatever takes your taste buds. You are Spot On, I’ve been using Aldi and Lidl soups for a while now but the only one I can’t switch is the Heinz tomato soup. If you can find one that compares I for one will switch like a flash.

Hi Gaz, just one thing I noticed with the cheaper Aldi one is that it contains wheat flour whereas I believe the Heinz beef big soup does not. Not that I'm saying this justifies the price difference, but for someone like myself who has a gluten intolerance I could only opt for the Heinz one so limits choice on ingredients rather than price point. I will never be able to buy anything at Aldi or Asda, but love this video. Tinned soups are often very good, with a doorstep of home made bread, on a winter's day, in front of a roaring fire. Heaven! I would have licked those lids!
Been buying Aldi’s soups for years now , the chunky ones are fantastic I much prefer them to Heinz soups. I fry a sausage or slice of bacon chopped up in the veg or chicken soup together with some crusty bread , makes a hearty meal , it’s a no brainer 👍
Gareth, I like that you're getting more natural on camera and free-form in your videos. It's like having a laugh with an old mate in his gaff. Love the bits of banter and silliness - but you're still providing the info on budget grub. Heinz can GTFO in my humble opinion.
Hi Gareth - the Aldi chunky beef soup is just lovely. I buy several every week. Just every bit as good as Heinz chunky beef soup. The price difference in Heinz products, compared to various supermarket’s own like for like products, is a huge consideration. Seems like Heinz are pricing themselves out of the market.
We've been having the beef and the chicken for ages. Delish! They used to do a lamb which was gorgeous but can't get it lately. I think I prefer the bramwells to the heinze.
Just depends on people buying it if people don't aldi will remove it .I used to buy frozen mash in bullitt size but it's gone , mash sausage peas and onion gravy

The difference in the taste in the Heinz could be because of the Garlic powder (which I don't believe was in the Aldi brand). But for the price difference, I would go Aldi every time :) Thank you for the vid Sir. I am going to Aldi tomorrow to stock up for the winter months, especially when they are talking Blackouts. I have a picnic butane stove, good ventilation and a carbon monoxide monitor. Safety first. And proper Prepper food! :)

Garlic powder is so cheap - I think it's about 50p for a small jar in Aldi - and needs so little of it used (it's quite strong) that even with the cost of buying it, the Aldi soup would still be cheaper as you'd be able to use the garlic powder several times (takes a tiny sprinkle) before having to buy a new one. If we assume 5 times (but it can be used more than that amount of times) and assume I'm right about the price, that's an extra 10p per soup. But you'd have to pretty liberal with it to use it just 5 times.
Got to admit your videos have made me take a second look at different brands and buy different brands. I never regarded myself as a snob or anything I just know there is some cheap rubbish about but now I’m thinking the own brands are either getting better or perhaps the big brands are cutting quality? I like the ASDA Chunky Beef & Vegetable Soup 400g, 80p, 1/2 can contains: FAT 2g - Low 3% , Saturates 0.9g - Low 5%, Sugars 5.3g - Low 6% , Salt 1.0g - medium 17%. I like to add afew turns of fresh black pepper to mine. Ingredients Water, Potatoes (12%), Carrots (12%), Beef (11%), Onions (7%), Tomato Purée, Garden Peas (5%), Modified Maize Starch, Salt, Onion Powder, Flavouring, Maltodextrin, Barley Malt Extract, Ground White Pepper, Beef Extract. I will give the Aldi soup a try but the heniz way way to much. they use to be good value now they are a premium price for a mid range products.

You should do the just essentials chicken flavour instant noodles, Vs the lost the pot (pot noodle brand) chicken noodles Vs chicken super noodles. I'd be interested if you liked the low fat aspect of the lost the pot ones. Theyre the noodles that come in a block and you boil in a pan. I think the just essential ones are about 22p

I get a sainsburys delivery and now am often shocked to see how small items are now! My son says, "mum, look at the weights and measures to guide you!" So I do more often now, but still get caught out! Latest was a five pack of Cadbury Fudge Bars...each bar was teeny! Gov trying to lessen our sugar intake I reckon! I've been picking up Lidl Newgate brand soups - less than half the price of Heinz and just as good. In times of hardship, soup is a life saver. During the eighties we lived on the stuff until the dole came through.
For years I've done all my almost all my shopping at Aldi. For the most, I'm very happy with the price and quality. There was one exception, I bought a tin of Bramwells stewed steak. It was worse than terrible, strange bits of animal and a funny colour. Put me right off! Threw the contents of the tin away. Never again!
Get the lamb soup from Aldi it's just like Sunday dinner in a bowl. Another trick put any of the Aldi chunky soups in a blender and they make absolutely fantastic gravy. They have made those soups for years in Aldi probably made small changes to the recipe
Bramwells(Aldi). Do some good stuff. The soups are brilliant. And like you say, soon used to the taste and financially better off. Season to taste. Food snobbery is a terrible thing . Aldi chicken soup is very good too, as is their chunky vegetable soup. Cheers Gareth.
I've not purchased brand names for decades. It all began with trying different brown sauce I like on fry ups. Not only did the stores own brand taste far better and less fussed about with. It had much less of the ingredients we are supposed to limit the intake of.
Definitely knock Big soup off the top slot, I used to have that a lot, filling a big flask, used to add pearl barley cooked with an oxo, added that to the soup, on cold days it was a real warmer upper and very filling, thanks for highlighting this as I would have seen it otherwise.
Unfortunately I don't live anywhere near a Lidl or Aldi store, and any savings that could be made would be lost in transport costs. For me it is now far more cost effective to have a cheaper delivery slot from Asda than do an in store shop.

I've always said soup is a drink, not a meal. Even the chunky ones didn't entice me. Well after watching this review I gave it a go. Added some salt and plenty of black pepper, and had a ham sandwich with it. Damn good lunch, tasty, filling etc. Bought the minted lamb version for tomorrow, but having a naan bread with it. I will still never buy a plain soup though, like tomato, oxtail etc.
just a suggestion that could bring in new viewers, how about 1 day a week you do a full weeks shopping of asda essentials vs named brands, then another week could be aldi vs named brands, you can use what you bought for a daily taste test comparison, i suggest this as at this time people are looking to save money and it's all good saying you can save 1 pound on this 1 tin, but if once a week you can say this shopping can save you 40 pound a week, that will be more eye opening

As a Brit’s, I now live in australia but prefer UK weetabix, and UK Heinz baked beans, and can’t stomach the Aussie one, however I prefer Aussies Vegemite as opposed to Marmite!
Here in Australia, at Aldi, I pulled out a box of frozen beef hamburger patties out of the freezer case and read the ingredients. Included in the ingredients was "cellulose fiber". Yes, cellulose fiber. Cellulose fiber is sawdust. In some places it's not illegal to use sawdust as a filler but I don't think it's legal in Australia. I've been meaning to point that out to Aldi. And right now, this minute, I don't remember the name of the product. All I'm saying, is yes, you can't save a swag of money at Aldi but always read the ingredients label and, not all the time, but sometimes the product is inferior to the big name brands. I will say, the "Choceur" brand chocolate at Aldi is magnificent. I used to always be a Cadbury fan but Cadbury's gone down hill badly over the years.

They both look delicious and even though it's 3am here I could eat a couple of these right now.
Cellulose fiber is plant based fibre and frequently used as a filler in foods, yes it is also in tree bark, but the term cellulose fiber does not equate to it being actual sawdust. Sawdust contains around 40% cellulose fibre, the cellulose fibre used in food production is around 97%. Yes cellulose fibre is permitted in Australian foods and at least one Australian company, A.S. Harrison, manufactures and sells it for food use. Sawdust contains cellulose fiber, that doesn't make cellulose fiber sawdust.

I remember a few years ago there was a fire at a food factory that produced flans / quiches. Every supermarket ran out and had notices up saying why - a fire at their factory. From Aldi to Sainsburys, Morrisons to M&S and Waitrose.
If you notice the Heinz is 10%beer and carrot. Whereas the Bramwells is 10%beer and 10% carrot!! The Heinz is higher in fat and sugar, so that's what you are paying for. Big difference. Thankyou for sharing.
Great video. Bramwells also do a minted lamb chunky soup. Perhaps you could contrast & compare Morrison's Scotch Broth with Baxter's Scotch Broth. Similar price difference.
You missed one of the main tests in my book and that is the ring pull lick test. Normally this gives a good indication of what delight may be awaiting. Stirling work by the way, love your content and honesty keep it up lad.
Great review as always. I'm sure the Heinz used to have bigger chunks in it years ago, being more of a casserole in a can, but I may be wrong? I'll try a Sainsbury's equivalent, if they do one.
Aldi and Lidl’s Chunky Veg soup tastes the same. The only reason I would get the Heinz Big Soup is for the Sausage one. As for the Chicken, Beef and Minted Lamb ones, Aldi/Lidl every time.
Here in the States, Aldi sells their version of Campbell's Chunky soups (their name brand is Chef's Cupboard here). I will stretch the large can by using just half of the soup over a cup of hot cooked rice. You get two filling lunches that way for about 75 cents each. Works well with the brothy types with beef or chicken and also with the creamy soups. A small apple on the side and you're eating pretty good.
I think the Aldi soup looked the best with more vegetables it's really is a eye opener such a big difference in price you're doing a great job saving us money

The tinned soup at Lidl is very good. Standard is similar to fresh. Prices were 39 pence but now has risen to 45 pence. There is a snobbery about tinned soup but I rate the Lidl offering. The one I enjoy the most is Pea & Ham. Homemade is the best but I just do not have the time. I have never rated Heinz. Over priced and over branded. You are right about saving money as some of the brand pricing is shocking.
I’ve stopped buying the Heinz soup, it’s 1.40 a tin in Morrison’s. Great review Gareth, l went for that sliced roast beef in Asda, but it was sold out and the beef burgers.☹️

All the big companies are the same, I worked for one for 16 years and the products had slightly different ingredients and packaging.

I’m a lorry driver and I collected a load the other day from Baxter’s and it was soup for Aldi the Tomato and Choritzo and cream of chicken and Smokey bacon so you’re getting a premium product but in Aldi packaging.

Stopped buying Heinz soups a few years back as the quality seemed to have plummeted. I felt they'd started to bulk out their vegetable soup with thickeners and the flavour seemed more synthetic. Bought some ALDI croissants the other day and was pleasantly surprised by how tasty and textured they were. Another eye opener review, keep it up.

Aldi is a good quality , good priced supermarket . My only gripe is they run out of stuff quickly . I have noticed recently their tinned food shelves have been almost empty 👎🏻
Heinz has increasingly become unaffordable in my home. For a while I've been having Tomato and basil soup, but once my stocks (a dozen tins) run out that's it. The price increase was Prohibitive. I do like a chunky soup but find the meat lacking in all. Great video. 👍
Nice timing on this one G man. I was only looking at these chunky soups at Tesco the other day. The Tesco own ones were very nice and just as good as Heinz. Will definitely be giving these Aldi ones a try mate. Really like these videos as they are so useful for comparisons before we try. Thanks for doing the trying and reviewing for us. Much appreciated.

I have had that beef and vegetable soup, and I have to say that it tastes a bit odd to me, and I avoid it. The Chicken and Veg one however is sublime. I have probably eaten 200 cans of it in the last couple of years. I just don't get tired of it.
Im a fan of the chicken and vegetable also, i try to always make sure we got some tins of it in the cupboard. Problem is, my missus gets her mits on it all the time, so i have to hide a tin or two just for me. 🤫

Some of these cheaper soups, make a brilliant base for a sauce, especially when done in a slow cooker.
Throw in your choice of herbs & spices & some chicken (or whatever) & you've got a decent, hearty meal. So easy to do as well......👍👍

Gareth, since watching your comparison videos and reviews, I have been going to both Aldi and Lidl as both stores are across the road from each other where i am. Have to say that the products I have bought have been really excellent. Can truthfully say I haven't missed any of the more expensive name brand items and the main 2 or 3 other big Supermarkets i used to regularly go to. That has really surprised me. Plus, have been saving quite a bit of Money by doing so. That's been clearly noticeable. Bramwell's range has been very good from Aldi. Had both the Beef and Chicken with Vegetable soups and they were both great, as was their Chicken Noodle soup. No looking back now, wish I had done it sooner. Great video as always, thank you. I used to buy stuff from Sainsbury's but when the cost of living crisis started I went to Aldi and what I spent nearly £15 on in Sainsbury's cost me just over £7 in Aldi and the quality is just as good as Sainsbury's and quite often better so it's Aldi for me every time now. I much prefer the look of the Aldi soup and for the price it's an absolute bargain, thanks for the excellent reviews.

Tried one of these a while ago. wasn't impressed, but looks like they may have improved the recipe. Worth a try. Like the Chicken and veg too. One to get though Gareth is the Minted Lamb soup in Asda. it's lovely :)

Having been a shift manager in a food manufacturing company. We used to make ready meals for the likes of Tesco up to Waitrose. The ingredients are all sourced from the same companies.. but as you've correctly said, it's the herbs and spices that are more predominant in the expensive product (also sugar content) so personally I'd buy the cheaper and just add a dash of brown sauce/ Worcester sauce/ soy sauce .. whatever takes your taste buds. You are Spot On, I’ve been using Aldi and Lidl soups for a while now but the only one I can’t switch is the Heinz tomato soup.
If you can find one that compares I for one will switch like a flash.

I don't know if the Big Soup is any better these days, but I tried if a couple of years ago, and it was absolutely rank. Might give it another shot - good video, and that pound extra is big savings!

Hi Gaz, just one thing I noticed with the cheaper Aldi one is that it contains wheat flour whereas I believe the Heinz beef big soup does not. Not that I'm saying this justifies the price difference, but for someone like myself who has a gluten intolerance I could only opt for the Heinz one so limits choice on ingredients rather than price point. Noticed that too, there was 1 allergen on the ALDI soup (wheat flour), but none on the Heinz (corn flour)

The beef was poor in the last couple of Heinz Beef &Veg Big Soups that I had, so I'd certainly give the Bramwell's a try.
I will never be able to buy anything at Aldi or Asda, but love this video. Tinned soups are often very good, with a doorstep of home made bread, on a winter's day, in front of a roaring fire. Heaven! I would have licked those lids!

Been buying Aldi’s soups for years now , the chunky ones are fantastic I much prefer them to Heinz soups. I fry a sausage or slice of bacon chopped up in the veg or chicken soup together with some crusty bread , makes a hearty meal , it’s a no brainer 👍

Hi Gareth - the Aldi chunky beef soup is just lovely. I buy several every week. Just every bit as good as Heinz chunky beef soup. The price difference in Heinz products, compared to various supermarket’s own like for like products, is a huge consideration. Seems like Heinz are pricing themselves out of the market.

We've been having the beef and the chicken for ages. Delish! They used to do a lamb which was gorgeous but can't get it lately. I think I prefer the bramwells to the heinze.

Just depends on people buying it if people don't aldi will remove it .I used to buy frozen mash in bullitt size but it's gone , mash sausage peas and onion gravy

The difference in the taste in the Heinz could be because of the Garlic powder (which I don't believe was in the Aldi brand). But for the price difference, I would go Aldi every time :) Thank you for the vid Sir. I am going to Aldi tomorrow to stock up for the winter months, especially when they are talking Blackouts. I have a picnic butane stove, good ventilation and a carbon monoxide monitor. Safety first. And proper Prepper food! :)

Garlic powder is so cheap - I think it's about 50p for a small jar in Aldi - and needs so little of it used (it's quite strong) that even with the cost of buying it, the Aldi soup would still be cheaper as you'd be able to use the garlic powder several times (takes a tiny sprinkle) before having to buy a new one. If we assume 5 times (but it can be used more than that amount of times) and assume I'm right about the price, that's an extra 10p per soup. But you'd have to pretty liberal with it to use it just 5 times.
If you store cans upside down in cupboard when you decide to open nothing stays in the tin, works well with baked beans

Or you could just use a spoon or fork to remove the food from the bottom of the can. It's easy when you know how.
Got to admit your videos have made me take a second look at different brands and buy different brands. I never regarded myself as a snob or anything I just know there is some cheap rubbish about but now I’m thinking the own brands are either getting better or perhaps the big brands are cutting quality? Keep it up I’m really enjoying watching your videos.

I like the ASDA Chunky Beef & Vegetable Soup 400g, 80p, 1/2 can contains: FAT 2g - Low 3% , Saturates 0.9g - Low 5%, Sugars
5.3g - Low 6% , Salt 1.0g - medium 17%. I like to add afew turns of fresh black pepper to mine.
Ingredients
Water, Potatoes (12%), Carrots (12%), Beef (11%), Onions (7%), Tomato Purée, Garden Peas (5%), Modified Maize Starch, Salt, Onion Powder, Flavouring, Maltodextrin, Barley Malt Extract, Ground White Pepper, Beef Extract.
I will give the Aldi soup a try but the heniz way way to much. they use to be good value now they are a premium price for a mid range products.

You should do the just essentials chicken flavour instant noodles, Vs the lost the pot (pot noodle brand) chicken noodles Vs chicken super noodles.
I'd be interested if you liked the low fat aspect of the lost the pot ones.
Theyre the noodles that come in a block and you boil in a pan. I think the just essential ones are about 22p

I get a sainsburys delivery and now am often shocked to see how small items are now! My son says, "mum, look at the weights and measures to guide you!" So I do more often now, but still get caught out! Latest was a five pack of Cadbury Fudge Bars...each bar was teeny! Gov trying to lessen our sugar intake I reckon! The Heinz Big Soups were £1 a tin not that long ago......inflation, etc certainly has affected the Heinz products

I've been picking up Lidl Newgate brand soups - less than half the price of Heinz and just as good.
In times of hardship, soup is a life saver. During the eighties we lived on the stuff until the dole came through.
For years I've done all my almost all my shopping at Aldi. For the most, I'm very happy with the price and quality. There was one exception, I bought a tin of Bramwells stewed steak. It was worse than terrible, strange bits of animal and a funny colour. Put me right off! Threw the contents of the tin away. Never again!

Get the lamb soup from Aldi it's just like Sunday dinner in a bowl. Another trick put any of the Aldi chunky soups in a blender and they make absolutely fantastic gravy. They have made those soups for years in Aldi probably made small changes to the recipe

I've not purchased brand names for decades. It all began with trying different brown sauce I like on fry ups. Not only did the stores own brand taste far better and less fussed about with. It had much less of the ingredients we are supposed to limit the intake of.
At least the Heinz looks Gluten Free .. no wheat .. Still well over priced though

Definitely knock Big soup off the top slot, I used to have that a lot, filling a big flask, used to add pearl barley cooked with an oxo, added that to the soup, on cold days it was a real warmer upper and very filling, thanks for highlighting this as I would have seen it otherwise.

Unfortunately I don't live anywhere near a Lidl or Aldi store, and any savings that could be made would be lost in transport costs. For me it is now far more cost effective to have a cheaper delivery slot from Asda than do an in store shop.
I remember my 13yr old son refusing to carry a Netto bag from the supermarket in the 80's. Boy has he changed his tune now!

I've always said soup is a drink, not a meal. Even the chunky ones didn't entice me. Well after watching this review I gave it a go. Added some salt and plenty of black pepper, and had a ham sandwich with it. Damn good lunch, tasty, filling etc. Bought the minted lamb version for tomorrow, but having a naan bread with it. I will still never buy a plain soup though, like tomato, oxtail etc.

just a suggestion that could bring in new viewers, how about 1 day a week you do a full weeks shopping of asda essentials vs named brands, then another week could be aldi vs named brands, you can use what you bought for a daily taste test comparison,
i suggest this as at this time people are looking to save money and it's all good saying you can save 1 pound on this 1 tin, but if once a week you can say this shopping can save you 40 pound a week, that will be more eye opening

As a Brit’s, I now live in australia but prefer UK weetabix, and UK Heinz baked beans, and can’t stomach the Aussie one, however I prefer Aussies Vegemite as opposed to Marmite!
Here in Australia, at Aldi, I pulled out a box of frozen beef hamburger patties out of the freezer case and read the ingredients.
Included in the ingredients was "cellulose fiber". Yes, cellulose fiber.
Cellulose fiber is sawdust. In some places it's not illegal to use sawdust as a filler but I don't think it's legal in Australia.
I've been meaning to point that out to Aldi. And right now, this minute, I don't remember the name of the product.
All I'm saying, is yes, you can't save a swag of money at Aldi but always read the ingredients label and, not all the time, but sometimes the product is inferior to the big name brands. I will say, the "Choceur" brand chocolate at Aldi is magnificent. I used to always be a Cadbury fan but Cadbury's gone down hill badly over the years.

They both look delicious and even though it's 3am here I could eat a couple of these right now.
Cellulose fiber is plant based fibre and frequently used as a filler in foods, yes it is also in tree bark, but the term cellulose fiber does not equate to it being actual sawdust. Sawdust contains around 40% cellulose fibre, the cellulose fibre used in food production is around 97%. Yes cellulose fibre is permitted in Australian foods and at least one Australian company, A.S. Harrison, manufactures and sells it for food use. Sawdust contains cellulose fiber, that doesn't make cellulose fiber sawdust.

I remember a few years ago there was a fire at a food factory that produced flans / quiches. Every supermarket ran out and had notices up saying why - a fire at their factory. From Aldi to Sainsburys, Morrisons to M&S and Waitrose.

Whereas the Bramwells is 10%beer and 10% carrot!!
The Heinz is higher in fat and sugar, so that's what you are paying for. Big difference.

Aldi and Lidl’s Chunky Veg soup tastes the same. The only reason I would get the Heinz Big Soup is for the Sausage one. As for the Chicken, Beef and Minted Lamb ones, Aldi/Lidl every time.
The Bramwells is less sweet ofc less sugar i tried both myself i add salt and pepper to the Bramwells its lovely dip some buttered bread in:)

Here in the States, Aldi sells their version of Campbell's Chunky soups (their name brand is Chef's Cupboard here). I will stretch the large can by using just half of the soup over a cup of hot cooked rice. You get two filling lunches that way for about 75 cents each. Works well with the brothy types with beef or chicken and also with the creamy soups. A small apple on the side and you're eating pretty good.

The tinned soup at Lidl is very good. Standard is similar to fresh. Prices were 39 pence but now has risen to 45 pence. There is a snobbery about tinned soup but I rate the Lidl offering. The one I enjoy the most is Pea & Ham. Homemade is the best but I just do not have the time. I have never rated Heinz. Over priced and over branded. You are right about saving money as some of the brand pricing is shocking.

Bramwells actually looked better with bigger chunks. Ingrediants looked identical in proportions so maybe they cook the heinz longer??
