19:48 I've been lucky and prepared for luck. I do manga stuff (Apple Black, Cofounder Saturday AM, a secret project, manga editor, art director, and consultant for Sandstorm Comics in the UAE) AND! I do social media (RUclips, Meta, TikTok, and more). Luckily everything I do is comic related, even the social media. I don't and have never had a job outside of this field, living just fine and having zero college debt, but there's nothing wrong with having a job on the side, btw; sometimes you have gotta do what you gotta do. Especially in the beginning. I'm still looking to keep climbing.
A man of many hats 🎩👍.
So do you have a side job or are you a full time manga artist?
I’ve been making a webtoon series and it’s so much tougher than I thought putting it out 😭, fully colored shaded and inked all by myself. I bit off more than I could chew
Real
Is manga easier?
@@dark_nightwing_xl2797webtoons typically have so much insane detail and "cleanliness" to them so yeah probably
What's it called?
Webtoon is another beast, due to coloring and the weekly deadline, especially. In the near future, stay tuned to the coming plans and some videos on this channel that'll discuss that too. Don't bite more than you can. maybe have a chiller schedule for now or get help however you can.
Awesome demo!
I've heard that in Japan, especially if a manga artist is pushing a deadline, their editor is in the room with them, often literally watching over their shoulder urging them along, sending out assistant editors to get food or walk the dog or anything else so the artist can concentrate only on getting the work completed.
The time pressures are real.
Facts, all effective ways to make sure the manga is done!
@@whytmangatv you guys shouldn't encourage this type of culture. this is the reason why most manga franchises are trash. you can't rush excellence. this is why it is better to go independent.
@@redhat4363 no one is pushing anything. Find ways that work for you to meet deadlines. If you don’t want to and or is unhealthy for you based the system you come up with, adjust deadlines or don’t do it.
@@whytmangatv yeah but my point is that you should be against it! You know in the back of your mind that it’s unsustainable! The deadlines are unrealistic, and the whole system is exploiting talents without rewarding them!
Mainstream manga industry is just a more sophisticated form of sweatshops!
It’s BS!
@@whytmangatv can’t believe someone as smart as you can’t see through this!
Modern manga\anime industry is nothing but a sophisticated type of sweatshops businesses!
Bro is so good at drawing black characters just wanted to mention that. Can you please make a video on how to draw different types of black characters
Or even generally different races. Its not a mistery how to draw white or asian people but do slavic people have any noticable differences?
@@coralfishnt7663I’ll try to find it but I remember someone had tutorial like this somewhere. It was very detailed; like showing the general difference in features. This back in the early internet days, so it might not be online anymore
@@coralfishnt7663 slavic are basically just white. there's nuances and small differences with slavic and non slavic white people, but you could prob get away with drawing them the same. really what you want to do is study a bunch of photos. sketch them, maybe do caricatures to focus on unique features
Just draw a golliwog bro
You’re a BEAST for coming back and just continuing like it was nothing. I still remember when I made edits for Apple Black on my main channel, PrinceZola. It wasn’t anything crazy, but your videos inspired me to make little edits promoting Apple Black since it’s good. I can’t wait for Apple Black Volume 5 since I already have all of Season 4. Sano went insane against Caesar.
The one and only came back with such a banger, man! I've been asking myself those questions since forever and here you just show the whole process step by step with timer.
By now I'm pretty sure the only thing stopping me from drawing more manga is the fact I haven't developed any workflow process and it somehow makes me anxious to start and struggle through it. Painting is not a problem but setting up the pages with panels and whole structure of it is a lot, so thank you for giving us a sneak peek how it look at a professional level. Your channel is a goldmine for aspiring artists.
aye, happy to help! Good luck on your projects meyn.
The universe provides. I took a year towards getting the art better after I learned your process. It's paying off!
Glad to help out!
@@whytmangatv highly appreciated 🙏
The king has returned
I’m loving the growth for not just Apple black but for Saturday AM. Really makes me believe that joining the industry is more possible than it was before
I've been watching your channel for years, the content is always top notch. I enjoy seeing your progress and wishinh you all the success, you deserve it. Hopefully in the future I can donate more. I've always hopes to see Apple Black get an anime version. Best wishes man and thanks a lot for your work!
Thank you So much man, means a lot!
The Apple Black OG is back! Yes sir! Seeing this demo is pretty freaking inspiring man. I'm just learning how to draw and just finished the story outlines for Volumes 1-6 for my Action-Adventure, badass African/African American female warrior trio (One is a samurai/firebender named Ember, Jahzara is the half-human/half-demon main character and earthbender, and the last is a waterbender/businesswoman named Zhavia). It is also a Yoruba inspired manga called Jahzara's Journey! I hope to publish it with Saturday AM one day, but I have a LONG way to go. My story will join that kickass roster tho one day! Count on it! Peace and blessings bro. :)
I have been drawing comics since 20 years ago, Voltron force, Ev and Max steel are some of the comics that I have worked on at that time, you know sometimes this spirit decreases but watching this video has given me inspiration and energy, just want to say thank you my friend, stay cool and keep up the best work.
Happy to help!
DAMN DAMN... that was a insane bro... That intro was hard asf now i want him named and his abilities shown lol. Nah can't Us hangin... Your probably the best non Japanese manga artist ever, most just can't do in depth cheat shots like you omg. All of it is just Imagined no perspective lines for spacing and it all looks right. When i try that shit floats out of sinc. When you taking over marvel or DC or i rather a new company with different ideas at this point.
This is so cool, inspiring and encouraging, can't believe I've only stumbled into this channel recently.
I happen to work in a studio that produces webtoons (not exactly the platform, but the medium), that mostly became an outsourcing studio for Japanese publishers and/or studios. There's a team for every title project, at the very least 1 translator (since the story script is in Japanese, and the team isn't, it needs translation) or the project manager would handle it (project manager does a bit of work similar to what a Japanese editor would do in helping the team to keep up with deadline, monitoring the quality, and communicate with clients -> publisher or other studio), 1 storyboard artist, 1 lead artist that would lock in the style of the drawing, 1 background artist, we'd use 3D backgrounds, 2 line artists (it varies, some would have only 1 -> rare, but there comes a time when a title has 4 to 5 line artists if the project's production quality is that high, or this would happen during crisis mode as well), 2 colorist (this one a bit varied, sometimes it's 1 base colorist and 1 colorist, sometimes it's 1 main colorist, and 1 other colorist, etc.), and 1 editor (finalized the panel spacings, add in text bubbles with appropriate design and color, SFX).
There are times when we've managed to have like about 3-4 chapters ahead of schedule, when the writer and publisher suddenly decided to change the story's trajectory, and we had to scratch everything, and went on crisis mode for a month, barely keeping up with publishing time.... But for me personally the toughest part is when another title project is on crisis mode, and I as a line artist got reeled in to help out (so sometimes I work 2 titles at the same time). Like you said, people would usually notice when a different artist handles a part of the project, it is HARD to abruptly change drawing style and be consistent about it, especially when dealing with different genres (from action manga to romance manga or vice versa), I'd need to quickly go through the summary of the story, character designs, assets, and study up on the file project folderings and stuff (different clients ask for different ways of doing the work, so we don't have a standardized flow on this), seriously during my first few times, I felt like an idiot thinking, I'm slow on the uptake and with the deadlines rolling in, and dragging the whole team down (we work from home so, I can't exactly see if the others were going through the same thing). This video made me feel seen.
But seriously, without a decent team? Working on 1 project alone is very tough... it's already tough with a decent team😅respect for you and everyone out there working in the industry.
This video was very helpful, thanks! I would like to also add that it's okay to simplify your art if it helps you. More detailed art doesn't necessarily mean it's better.
hey bro, it's been a while, just wanted to say you just sparked my old passion for making manga. and I think I'm going to try getting back into it again oh and thanks for the tips.
As someone desperately trying to get his own comics off the ground, it's astounding to see this video, and I'm sure it will help me out a TON!
I would love to see screening visited in a future video, breaking it down so that it looks good like in your comics and not a garbled mess I've seen (and suffered with)
I would love to see you go more into how you go from having an idea and actually forming a story around it, I think you have a great perspective on this and I would like to hear more from you
me, i ijust let it flow😓

When you said 20 pages, my jaw dropped :O I live in Japan and lately i've been wanting to create a manga, or maybe a webtoon, idk i'm just gathering research but ik it would be really cool. Also i've never seen your content before but your video was the first one that came up for my search, God timing cause now you've got a new sub :)
Im starting to do my own manga I have to give you respect man its way harder than I thougth
This video is extremely helpful man. Thank you for giving all of your knowledge to the younger generation so we can grow. I’m very interested in how you drew the nature backgrounds (trees, bushes, sky) Do you have any plans of making a video on your techniques?
more to come, also an realtime x2 of this video drops tomorrow.

Glad you're back, man. Had me worried for a sec. Love the attitude almost as much as I love the artwork. Got my Apple Black but I gotta say, I want more of Clock Strikers if possible too XD. I wanted to draw comics and even tried it back in the day but the stars never aligned for me. Glad to see a young brother like you make it though.

Great tips! I could really use a team to help with "Noelle" but I'm not financially where I want to be in order to hire a team...yet. I will get there, but I will get there. I could really use that storyboard. Thanks again for sharing with the community.

Heck! Just give me the whole line up. 😤👍👍🔥
as a artist i want to go and make my own mangas at some point so watching your videos has helped a lot.
Amazing. Glad you're back
I think often what we discuss is how to reach and meet weekly deadlines when they are often irrealistical. What i mewn is, specially in the japanese market, the artists are literally diying and getting sick.
What i think should be put in discussion is, couldnt things work in other publishinf formats such as biweekly or monthly?
This demo is AMAZING and indicitive of my own findings in private! If anyone is interested I have a couple of potentially life saving tips that can save even more time and has literally made my process that much cleaner;
Tip 1: separate your inked outlines from your detailed and blocked lines. This will be a GODSEND to you when you have to constantly wrestle with magic wand selections and flats for your colors and tones.
Tip 2: if there is ever anything I recommend doing its this- create a template of ALL the layers you name and use on a separate file, then when you create a new project, open up your file with all the layers already created, select them all, ctrl c, then move to your actual project after youve made your layouts and panels and paste the layers to your hearts content. Voila. You've saved yourself at least thirty minutes per page, which saves you literal HOURS AND DAYS OF YOUR LIFE JUST NAMING YOUR FRIGGIN LAYERS THE LONGER YOU DO EVERYTHING.
Tip 3: when sketching and inking, commit to your lines and try to avoid going over the sane thing over and over again. Out of all the tips here this one is the most difficult as it can seem like im telling you to just draw perfectly. However, in my experience your drawing doesnt typically get better the more lines you put to the page. That messy circle you drew for the head in a hundred strokes took you literally a hundred times longer to draw versus just going over it two or three tines respectively.
These three things are what has literally saved my life and I WISH I had someone there to lay that out for me instead of giving me the bs answer: "oh dont worry about your process and just do your own thing!!"
Boy, your video is incredible!!! But it's so fast that even watching it at the slowest speed possible, I couldn't identify the paper size choices that are essential for printing at publishers, in addition to thousands of other wonderful subtle details. Is there any way you can make this video available in real time? I really admire your work!!!
thanks lol Literally right here ruclips.net/video/mZZ2h2LfBf4/видео.html
@@whytmangatv Thank you very much!!!
Man, you're sent from the heavens. I woke up thinking about how to get me new comic finished faster and this was in my recommended. 😂😂
YAY NEW VID! I’m not on a dead line but it will surely help. Ty!
I’ve just got into drawing months ago and 3 weeks ago I started drawing digitally. Shading is my most challenging task right now because I want to really go into as much detail as I can.
That being said. It takes about a week to do one page worth of drawings for me, one. It’s quite the struggle. Especially when you have two jobs.
Really impressive! Hats off!
Great video WM,sending love to you from the Caribbean.
Same to you!
Bruh ya got 500k, I think you're a real youtuber lol
My plan is to just get used to making one shots. I joined a contest for the second time and I plan to finish it due to it being due February and not wanting people to just yolo it in a month
That I will practice to draw manga faster for my manga shot, using with your best method, thank you!🙏🏻
My like and view goes to whyt manga getting a mic 🙏
EPIC
i have a shonen jump volume and there were a few pages in the naruto entry in that issue where it wasnt fully done and still in the sketch phase, by far my most treasured issue for whatever reason lol
I've missed you, man😢
That’s Awsome don’t give up my boi 💪🏾
This sword wielding character and his story that you used to demonstrate in this video, needs to become canon. Don’t let this concept go to waste…respectful request. 😌🙏
Aaaaah welcome back !!!!
you and dd mark are very inspirational.
Happy you got your channel back from the hackers. Hopefully nothing hit up from here!!!
Drawing a manga and trying to stay within deadlines is a huge struggle. I've been doing it for years and ultimately decided to stop posting on Tapas and Webtoon, as it had become stressful and I also quit promoting. Also, backgrounds are something that slow me down a lot, but I think I figured out a trick to speed things up. At the moment, I decided I'll just be focusing again on the story and putting out more pages before I start posting again (I really hope I'll be able to finish the first volume!).
Wish I could have ppl to draw with remotely on in person, that will be really nice😊

Apple Black Volume 5 dropping November!
Is this the official saturdayam channel?
Dude wtf you are so fast and result is insane.
Love your work . But u and I both know Saturday am ain't paying u enough for APPLE BLACK
Goated upload timing (I have 2 weeks to draw 30 pages)
W whyt manga timing🔥
Whats your favorite part to do when you draw Whyt?
I gave up on the idea of doing MANGA, not only will no one read it because it's not from Shonen Jump but no one will buy it either. So I found a better way and that is to draw vertical comics (manhwa, manhua etc) which can be read perhaps most comfortably on a mobile phone. And it's in color so it will appeal to readers who don't want to read black and white comics. If you did a WEBTOON version you'd definitely have more patrons and more money than if you just did manga.
Woof. 20 manga pages in a week?! I barely know how to make 1 yet.
Monthly schedules arent that bad compared to the weekly one
This video certainly came at the right time!
Though I’m curious; do mangaka ever go through drafts? How do they blast out 20 pages per week while keeping the story consistent? Are there outlines?
Good to see you back man
My manga is getting finished this month
Ive alway been curios Whytmanga why didnt you make Sano black. Being a black mangaka since we have very little representation of black anime out of millions of manga and anime even black anime main characters in general Im black myself and making my own series with the mc being balck and having a lot of representation not judging just curious why not.
Great question, I will address in the future. It was a lack of seeing diversity in manga and so, I thought it didn't belong in my early and naive days not understanding things and it limited my creativity. Thankfully that has changed and I have series with black leads now and helped launch Saturday AM so people learn from my error. I'm still happy with Sano as is, I just don't like that I didn't even consider him as black because I just never saw it in japanese comics, it all makes sense to me now and is a very nuanced convo so, I'll break it down in a video but, Bacassi has black leads, Apple Black Origins has a black lead, maybe a multiverse Sano is black lol just wait.but I'm glad Saturday AM and I have contributed to people drawing from themselves more in their work. black, white, asian, tall, short, asian, african, european etc. people are putting themselves in their work more unlike before, were people always had spiky haired characters with japanese names, even though you don't know anything about japan apart from what you see in anime. A lot of Japanese creators MOSTLY have japanese characters and japanese inspired worlds or just straight up Japan because that's part of what makes it authentic to them. Thankfully I fell out of that very soon after Apple Black starter and fixed and retconned some things to address this. Will address properly in a future video. Apple Black is still authentic to me because I did what I wanted but I do wish I could do it again without that mental unconcious limitation. This is also why I think the anti diversity crowd are blind to the big picture and don't understand the authencity conversation, but they're not smart enough to feel stupd.
@@whytmangatv I can see what you mean not being shown diversity especially with the lack of it in anime thanks for answering my question and keep up the good work. 👍
@@whytmangatv "not smart enough to feel stupid" is the best insult :)
@whytmangatv Sano is a pretty good Asian design.
@whymangatv
A big issue is that the “diversity” crowd pretty much caused a huge diversity between people, provoking confusion when people actually insert themselves into their work like God does.
Love your videoes man ❤
