    3:39 Huge Volume Drop compensation - I just got this pedal and found that it sounds better when left in the guitar switch mode. I understand their intention to implement a keys setting to compensate for much hotter line-level signals, but I feel like it's expecting something ridiculously hot and drops it way too much. I've found the guitar setting sounds great all around (with no volume drop) and if my synth starts to get too hot, I'll simply attenuate the master volume knob on my synth. I haven't had any issues so far with any synths usually set around 12 to even 3 o'clock. Plus this works out better for me since I play a bit of guitar and switching over is a lot easier. Hope this helps!
    The most annoying thing to me is the fact the speed settings are also internal dip switches. So far there have been numerous times where I want to experiment with all the different speed options, so for now I'm actually leaving the wood cheeks on and the back panel off - it's in a safe location and never moved around so it'll be fine. But switches on the front or rear side panel would've made sense.

    • @JorbLovesGear
      @JorbLovesGear  2 года назад +3

      I was going to try this too, great tip. So it probably is just a dramatic attenuator.
      Great tips!

      @@JorbLovesGear no problem. I actually just uploaded a setting run-through on two of my (non-Juno) synths going through every possible variation. I used the 'guitar' setting for everything and it sounds great - you'll barely notice a difference from the raw/bypass to the pedal. Included some other tips and discoveries as I went through the fast/slow stuff. ruclips.net/video/S5Y6g02Z4U0/видео.html
      Forgive the poor production value, I'm not a content creator, but hopefully that helps!

      Yeah I noticed the drop, so I’m ok with leaving it in the guitar mode and taking down the volume of my synth?

    • @StephenTraskSKSZP
      @StephenTraskSKSZP 2 года назад

      Strymon sells an amplifier/attenuator for Eurorack called the AA.1 that drops the synth levels down 18db to send to a guitar pedal then on the return boosts the signal 18db for feeding back into the modular world. It seems like the internal switch just has the first part of that. I'm ordering one of these and will pair it with the return side of the AA.1. There are plenty of other Eurorack modules aimed at bringing the guitar levels put out by pedals up to line level or modular level, which is even hotter.
      On one hand I feel like the could have added an amplification stage. On the other, I wouldn't trust any amplifier Behringer would throw in at this price point.

    This was the review I was expecting. Thanks for saving me the time and embarrassment of sinking 60 bucks into what I'm sure is a great "premade" chorus, but just not a wise investment for someone who already has a chorus he's happy with. As a Juno-106 owner, I do love that chorus! But maybe that's what makes the Juno so great, and why I still keep her around. Look: butter is great on popcorn (and a lot of things), but not so much on breakfast cereal. Point is (if I actually have one): maybe not ALL of my keyboards need THAT chorus. I fully support anyone who wishes to make the plunge, but for me - I'll hold. I think that'll keep my Juno in a special place in my stack. Awesome review! Looking for more.

    Thanks for doing this Jorb! The V2 is much closer now. It drops a touch off the low end like every other Juno chorus clone out there, but it's at least in the ballpark for a set-and-forget synth chorus. Was looking for something to pair with a Dreadbox Nymphes that I have on order.

    I've had a tough time trying to find a drive pedal that doesn't make my synths sound like a huge mess/ a tinny can of farty bees, or is that more the nature of instrument signal/vs guitar signal? Does it add a lot of hiss/noise like the original Juno chorus or is it fairly quiet? I stopped using the onboard Juno chorus pretty soon after getting one and opted for other pedals/plugins instead. (TAL makes a pretty good free VST "Juno" chorus plugin.) Interestingly, the Alpha Juno chorus that Roland made after the 106 was actually better in my opinion -- less noise, and variable rate speed controllable from MIDI! I really wish someone would emulate that chorus instead!

    I know you have nothing to do with it but I really dont get the point of keeping the switches on the inside. It's not like this pedal lacks the space on the front either. It just makes accessing the full range of sounds of the pedal a pain since you have to disassemble them everytime

The only reason i bought it over the june 60 tho was because version 1 sounded nothing like the juno chorus and that was the only one available at the time. The chorus rates on an actual 60 are a little slower than the 106, and the rates on a 6 are a tiny bit slower than the 60. So it’s hard to compare just because of that difference. That said, the pedal sounds wider to me. Wider than your 106 and my 6. Almost too wide I’d say, like pulse width going to 0 sort of sound, which I don’t really care for. I think you’re better off just getting something that’s a little more flexible, like you said at the end. It isn’t really nailing THAT sound for me.

TBH I kind of hate this TC for making me think I might get a Juno-style chorus in a pedal...Is it not the point?? YES IT IS THE POINT. which is why they branded it so much like a Juno.
