Gotta make sure you're in neutral. Don't wanna start the engine and run into anybody. The starter motor has enough torque to push you into a car that you're parked next to lol. But if you're in America you don't have to worry about that bcuz usa regulations require a push-clutch down to-start mechanism. for people who dont understand, automatic drivers dont have a clutch pedal, and all they need to do is release the park brake and go into drive for manual drivers, they HAVE a clutch pedal, and before they go to first gear, they need to make sure the gear shifter is at netural, they wiggle it left to right because in netural, its free to move, letting you know that your car is in netural.
Automatic > Manual any day, every day. I say this as someone who drove a manual for years and had enough. Automatic is superior in every way, especially newer modern ones.
My Cummins swapped Chevy has a manual because an auto would have been a pain, and 5 times the price. Plus I prefer a manual when towing. I had a little Toyota pickup years ago with a 5 spd and it was a blast to drive.

Her doing that little stick jiggle doesn’t make her any better than other manual or automatic drivers. Her sense of entitlement is unbelievably infuriating.
I read once that if you put your automatic transmission in neutral when stopped at lights, it allows the transmission to cool. I live in Texas and I do it all the time and especially in hot weather. I also downshift to help slow the car and use less brake power. Hope this is correct things to do.
Neutral at a stop light could be beneficial depending on how long you have to wait, However I highly recommend not downshifting in an automatic car simply just to save brakes. In the snow for more control and engine braking absolutely. Brakes are cheap and simple as well as quick to replace, Where as Automatic transmissions are very complex, expensive, and labor intensive to rebuild and replace.
Manual is fun especially having a mindset on the industrial age where you spend more of your time with more effort than the automatic methods in this internet age. Update: Automatic lifestyle is the best.
I have been driving manual for 15 years and now have a AT. Still wiggling the damn stick when getting in and keeping my hand on it even while driving sometimes.
