Although driving stick is not proven to be a factor in making you a better driver, many people who drive stick claim its safer and keeps the driver more connected with the vehicle and the road.

As for the US, it's more like distracted driving. But yeah, keep in mind, these are just some facts, I don't think there is enough research done about this.

      I was going to comment about this... I have a theory >> people who are the best at selling themselves, are not as good as they claim. Humble people are better than they say, this is just based on my personal experience with a lot of different type of people. And it is annoying because those who are great at selling themselves, get the best jobs, without necessarily deserving them based on their skills.

      I'm in Italy, more specifically in Rome, and Rome is the city with the highest concentration of cars on the road in Italy. We learn to drive ONLY with manual transmission cars and we learn to drive in traffic, even in the first lesson. Every car used for teaching is supplied with clutch and break even on the front passenger side, so the teacher can help you if you are near to kill or hit someone/something. Learn to drive manual is easy, and most important, allows you to drive every car. Stop this laziness and learn how to drive properly.

    “Clutch is the pedal, right”. Honestly, I remember my first time learning to drive stick shift. I did it in a parking lot, not out on the roads. I practiced for about 30 minutes constantly stalling. At one point I finally got it and tried real roads, which I surprisingly didn’t stall on my first couple of times. I’d say I eventually got the hang of it and my only enemy would be hills. I am never at a 100% consistency rate of not stalling when I am stopped at an uphill intersection. No matter how much I try to keep the revs at a reasonable amount with slow and good clutch control, I will stall here and there. I honestly think it’s a good idea these drivers are learning to drive stick shift. It’s a skill in life that you may need to know if there’s ever an emergency.

    • @rosieapplelemontart
      @rosieapplelemontart 2 года назад +5

      You don't need to be in gear or using clutch control when you're stopped. If you stop for a short while put the clutch and brake pedals all the way down. If you're stopped for a long while put the handbrake on and take the car out of gear. Clutch control is for moving slowly like in a traffic jam or parking, not for waiting at the lights. Using clutch control when stopped will wear out the clutch and you'll be revving unnecessarily.

I drove first and he blamed the stalls on my bad driving, then we switched and he immediately stalled!

      flyinghigh2000 Well it is better to say manual as you are MANUALLY shifting gears versus something that's AUTOMATICALLY doing it. And if you think about it, in an automatic you still use a "stick" to shift from P to R to N to D. It's how the gears are being changed that determines why it is called automatic. Thus manual would be a better term.

    My first car when I was 17 was a stick. My dad taught me. Been driving stick ever since. I'm 44 years old now and will go out of my way to buy a manual transmission car. Manual is the way to go - they're fun to drive, you have more control of when you need to accelerate quickly, better traction in snow/rain. The car becomes an extension of yourself. It's a beautiful thing.

    i’m learning how to drive (taking my test in a couple months!), and i’ve never been more thankful that my parents made me learn clutch before automatic.

      If you can drive manual, that's enough to show that you're a professional driver. Driving a manual is something you can feel and satisfied while automatic is zero skills given. It's like go into a subway and that's it for automatic. Manual is like to show how wise your are on mind using.

      Requires too much thinking behind the wheel for some. Besides, they're already double fisting Starbucks and their cell phones lol.
