Enjoy! Note the verbal typo at 08:06 - I meant to say new PSU! Also, I guess to address the elephant in the room, this commentary was recorded before the death of Queen Elizabeth which is why I never mention it (not that I likely would anyway, but I'm assuming some people might think I would have considering I am British).
I had similar issues in the past and I eventually accidentally realized that it was the front case USB hub cable that was wonky and kept causing shortcircuits. But you don't checke these. Every other component works fine, I would swap them out and troubleshoot but it kept happening. The one thing you never check is the case.

Curry’s are a nightmare. I ordered a washing machine off them and paid for installation. When they arrived, they began running the plumbing. Now, I live in a new build, and anyone who has also bought a new build will tell you that there is a hole left in the back of the cupboard under the sink to run the feed, drain AND the power plug. Now, they started running the plumbing, realised they had made a mistake and hadn’t put the plug through the hole first, and then turned round to me and said the hole is too small and they aren’t prepared to remove the plumbing to run the plug 🙃🙃 I called customer care to get my installation fee back, as it hadn’t been installed, and they said there was nothing they could do. Would NEVER use Curry’s again, ever.
You need two computers to do this, but you could have installed WinDbg from Microsoft (free) on a separate machine and enabled KDNET on the problem machine, assuming that computer has a supported network adapter. This lets you stop the crashing machine at the crash. WindDbg also contains an extension tool called !analyze (use the -v switch) that tells you what the cause of the failure is. You don't need to debug the exact failure. All that's important to you is understanding the driver or other system component causing the failure. That should give you a clue as to what has failed. And yes, I'm a former Microsoft engineer...
@Aiden Lucente Basically, dirty power means it's not delivering electricity consistently. Is more common in older houses. Your psu can handle a little bit of inconsistency every now and then, but if it's constant, it can make your pc very unstable and ruin the psu permanently and possibly damage other components. You can use a UPS so your pc draws clean power from the battery if you have this problem.
I know I'm probably a bit late, but hot swap means to replace something while the main device is still running. For example servers may have dual power supplies so that if one fails, you can remove and replace without shutting down the server. All Matt is doing is swapping, or even cold swapping.
Matt. Your channel is a gold treasure. Love the absolutely random commentary on those ksp missions. And for your fridge, I can totally relate as I had a lot of trouble with the installation of my pool. Cheers mate
I had a similarly poor experience with B&Q. I'm living overseas so renting my house out. The oven died so I ordered a new one. After waiting 2 weeks, the delivery date came. They called to ensure someone would be home to receive it. My tenant waited all day but nothing came. When I called to ask what happened, I was told that the oven wasn't in stock. Apparently they didn't think to check that before calling or follow up. Worse still, we had to wait another week and a half to order a different model that they did have in stock.
The rollercoaster of emotions this Mun trip took me on with crashing computers and retail hell with refrigerators...this...I mean who cares about awesome Parallax mod update...or exploding Laythe bases...Matt's woeful troubles and anecdotes are what I love on this channel that at times plays amazing KSP!
It’s been forever since I’ve watched one of your vids and this was just an automatic click because I have always been subbed for the personality and it’s nice just to have this free form content again
We too, lost our fridge/freezer and all the food that was in it, as we didn't know it died until the next morning. Butter was melted, etc. Meat in the freezer was soft to the touch, ice cream was a liquid. Fun day. So we called ALL of the local appliance stores, only to find that all sales were online only and the earliest delivery would be in about six months. Only one store had a floor sample that they were willing to sell to us. Begger's can't be choosers, so we went down to look at it. It was a nice unit, but much smaller than the one we had, (which was 1100 Cubic inches), and the new one is a mere 700 cubic inches. We are just glad that it works and continues to work after six months, (when the one we wanted would have been delivered). This store also took the old one away, but did wait until this one was running before they left. As for your computer, I've been there too, but not for about a decade.
The detail of the rocks on the Mun are amazing. Looks so right. Ha, I wonder if KSP 2 will look this good. Or are the devs in seeing this thinking, "OMG, we need to rework our local satellites. This mod is better than what we have now." Lol. Compliments to the devs of the mod.
The exact same glitch destroyed my Duna base. It jumped into the air and turned a full flip before landing perfectly with no damage whatsoever. The SSTO shuttle detached and flipped above the base, snagging the comms array on its way down, but also landed on its wheels! I was just left sitting there thinking, "WAT. JUHST. HAHPNED."
The leaving it off thing is only if you lay it down. If the fridge is transported upright in a box truck for delivery then there's no problem turning it on immediately.
Reminds me of the time I bought my first washing machine, online, at a also brick and mortar store. I learned that day that there is a difference in in term of delivery "your house" and "your flat". I tried to convince and bribe the delivery guy to (a) help me move it up to the third floor and then (b) to a least borrow me his trolley. For money. He said no. In the end I had to cook some peanut chicken rise dish for a friend so he helped me carry the device up to my flat.
I have a recent story about troubleshooting bluescreens. I had memory management bluescreens happening for months. They would be completely random. I went through everything I possibly could have to fix it. I updated every driver, ran system file checker and DISM repair, and I did a clean reinstall of windows 10. As it turns out, a part of my RAM was failing. I learned this after a while of troubleshooting an issue which turned out to be related to the RAM. I was trying to run Minecraft modpacks through Technic. I had always been able to load into a modpack just fine. That's until one day it seemed the biggest modpack I had would fail to load due to a Java exception error at least 4 out of 5 times trying to load it. I could run it more or less fine after it loaded. The error was less common when loading smaller modpacks. After running out of potential software sources of the bluescreens, I knew it HAD to be hardware related. The thing is, I had checked the RAM with the windows memory utility 5 times and every time it found no errors. DON'T USE THE WINDOWS MEMORY UTILITY! It's useless. I used a third party RAM health checker and it found a faulty page of ram in a minute. 4 months earlier I had checked my ram with the windows memory utility after a bluescreen. Had I used a ram checker that worked, I would have found the problem and been able fix it before it became such a problem. With that, I confirmed it was hardware related and replaced the RAM. Everything has been smooth since then. It's really annoying that my RAM was failing even though it was only a year old. TL;DR Don't use the windows memory utility for checking RAM, use a third party one. The windows one is useless. Had I used the other RAM checker 4 months ago, I would have been able to find my failing RAM and replace it before it got bad.
Seems like this video has something of an overarching theme going here: "When stuff breaks..." 😁 1. PC... 2. fridge... 3. "I've got a _base_ on Laythe..." Five seconds later: Everything going **KA-BOOM!** My first thought on 3. was that the base parts probably 'collided' with the new objects from Parallax 2, but then you mentioned you activated collisions _after_ that, so - doesn't make too much sense... I mean, a bit of "Boom!" is always fun 😄, but as I recall, you had quite a great base going there, so it's darn sad to see it all go _that_ way 😔...
If it is merely a graphics and GFX mod, then I don't see why it would need a clean wipe, though I think that you will need a relatively mid to high end PC.

Matt explaining the issue with his computer sounds exactly like the issue we had at the company I worked at. The SSD was suddenly turning off and you wouldn't really notice that until you started to do something that needed access to the drive. This is also why there was nothing in event log. However in our case that was caused by the Windows power management with some SSDs and that got fixed something like 3 years ago.

And guess what, they didn't come until 2 weeks, when they come they spent 5 minutes looking at unlit stove and decided, yep, its toast, and proceed to pack things up but not take the damn stove, they say tomorrow another team will come with a replacement unit, that team arrived three days later and apologized since apparently they sold me a bad unit which already marked for returned to factory, they offer a free upgrade to stove/oven combo model or in-store credit worth almost twice the stove cost as compensation and I immediately says no, almost a month just to deal with this, and in that mean time I need to borrow my neighbor's butane stove for even bring a kettle to a boil, I was sincerely fed up and just want a replacement stove that function that day right now.
