I replaced my dry-rotted Goodyear Wranglers on my 2018 Silverado with the Mickey Thompson’s. So happy with my choice. Surprisingly quiet, nice ride and handling, good beefy tire. Hope you like them!

Just installed a set of Mickeys Baja Boss AT this morning. In the whole 15 miles I drove to lunch and back home, they were quiet. Of course any new set of tires will be quiet, even cheap ass Chinese made garbage. I'm sure they will be wonderful. Paid for road force balanced and I had new Bilstein shocks installed 3 weeks ago. I'm good for whatever bad weather comes to southern Idaho.

I quit Nittos. Running BF Goodrich Mud/ Snow on my 1984 square body 35x12.50's. Work great on that truck. Running 34x11.50 Mickey Thompson per your video on my 2021 Silverado Trailboss LT with Zone 1.5" level kit and 3" wheel spacers. Took brackets off behind wheel well curtains.
    Doesn't rub anywhere anytime.
Ride, sound level and performance is excellent on 2021 with the M.T.'s

I have 35k miles on these tires. 275/55r20 10 ply.
They are heavier then any other 10 ply I've ran.
Pick up rocks down the driveway a pretty ridiculous amount compared to my toyo at3s. Was difficult to balance. Syping is missing on a few tread blocks on all 4 and they get significantly smaller as they wear so theyll get worse traction as they wear. Worn down 2/32s and starting to get loud.
However they have been doing very well on treadlife life. For 35k miles and dropping to 16/32 from 18/32 I'm very impressed on that part. Great looking tire.
Not sure I just got a bad set on the syping or that's just how they're made.

I messed up and swapped my wife’s tires out on her Lincoln Corsair for nittos and boy was that a mistake!! The quality has fell off on nitto. They had vibration issues also. It may be my local dealer buying from one source, idk. I had to take those off of her vehicle also. Pretty bad when a plain touring tire has vibration problems too. Man I love the Baja Boss so far!!

@@southernchampiongarage Oh no! Glad to hear the bosses are treating you good. Looking forward to getting mine. Like someone else mentioned, Mickey's are made by Cooper and IMO they have a lot more going for them than Nitto in both the half-ton and heavy-duty sections. Nitto is selling lots because their marketing is better and it's achieved a communal mentality. Everyone hears about everyone else getting them so naturally everyone assumes they are good and the cycle continues.

    • @southernchampiongarage

Appreciate it!! To be honest on a stock setup you most likely will need a 33x11:50x22 to be safe. That’s what I would do if I was in your shoes. To be honest I wish I had went with the 285/55/20 which is 11:50 width. You never know when you may be on the interstate or something and have to go across the median. No since of worrying about scrubbing. The spacers will most likely still have scrubbing about an inch in from the inside rear front fender.

What about this Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT in 285/65 20’s on a stock 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4. It does have the 2” level on the front from the factory- would you expect any rubbing issues? Stock tire size is 275/65 20. Thanks and a great looking truck!

    • @southernchampiongarage
      @southernchampiongarage  2 года назад

That particular tire you are getting is equivalent to a 35x11.50 where mine is 34.3x11.6. I have a 2.5” leveling kit and only had rubbing on the mud flaps up front. I went with the delete kit and that took care of my issues. If you have rubbing, most likely it will be in the same place. If I were you, just be prepared to take the mud flaps off or like I did take them off and have the tires installed and then at home you can play around with them to see where “if” any they are scrubbing. At most you will have to delete the flaps and if push comes to shove, you can always toss on a 0.5” leveling kit that mounts on the bottom of the strut housing. These are super fast to install, I would recommend an alignment afterwards, although other people may advise it’s not needed I would. Hope this helps with your decision and appreciate it!

You shouldn’t be confused about what I expected “if” you have owned several types of mud tires. I have owed TSL boggers, thornbirds, super swappers, Nittos of course, and the list goes on and on….my point is a tire should “not vibrate” (rear view mirrors, front driver/pass mirrors, seats, rear glass as if I had 15” sub in the bed, and drone like a helicopter is landing in the bed) being brand new! I have had mud tires ride better than AT. So that has nothing to do with the price of rice made in China. **Side note…I bought Nitto “TOURING” tires for my 2020 Lincoln replacing the Michelin’s “mistake” and had the same issues. All tires were bought from the same dealership at the same time. Just pondering what I should of bought instead of the touring? Answer- some more Michelins.

@@joshj9441 That’s crazy man sorry to hear that. I’m not hating at all because I like your Mickey Thompson’s way better than the trail graps anyways but as a whole I think Nitto makes quality tires. I’ve ran Toyo MTs and ATIIs, Cooper AT3 XLTs and Nitto G2s. The G2s have the best handling and ride quality in my opinion. I’m not sure about the trail graps but they definitely look like they’d ride rough. I’d get the Mickey Thompson’s in a heartbeat they’re just way too heavy for my 1500 lol

No, there weren’t anything we had seen. We also had them checked multiple times for that because that’s what we thought!

That vibration from your junk GM product. I had a new Silverado and they could never fix it and ended up getting rid of it and buying a RAM and never having a problem since lol

Actually looking at some now. 35k miles it just quit running 70mph, oil pressure dropped to zero for 45-60 seconds. Come to find out mass air flow sensor bad?!? Think we going to a ram. Just bought one for the camera guy we are about to put out on the channel soon.

    There made by Cooper tire.

I know I had Cooper SST and that has to be the “worst” tire ever as far as noise and the tread being chopped. I had a rear diff bearing going out but couldn’t hear it due to the noise of the tires. It was a mud tire though, so what more to expect.
