@@Mumfy64That's good for weight at least. I'm looking at the 285-70 17s in SL for my 4Runner, they're 48 lbs each which is much more reasonable. 4 months later, are you still happy with them?
Almost any new off road tire will perform reasonably. The true test of any off road tire is at their half life mark, or when half the tread depth is gone.
Running a 37x12.50x17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT on my Gladiator Rubicon and I absolutely love them!! The tire has preformed flawlessly in all conditions. Mud, rock Canadian winter and no matter what I throw at them they never disappoint. Out preforming BFG ko2’s and Wildpeak AT3W’s (side by side comparison in winter and mud). Only downside is they’re heavy and require a lot of weight to balance. Would I buy them again??…… ABSOLUTELY!
Thanks for your review. I am on Mickey Thompson 285/70R17 Mud terrain MTZ and has hold up nicely. Its about 6 yrs now and because it wear down it finally got a flat. After view your video I am still sticking to Mickey Thompson Baja Boss All terrain instead of going back to the MTZ mud terrain. I think its a better choice. Likely to a bit quieter
I had these Baja boss tires on my f150 for just over 2 years now. 40k miles and they still have life in them. I will be running these tires from now on. Will keep the best 2 of my current tires as backups when I install new tires
I’ve run several types of tires on my Jeep and Ram trucks. Mostly MTs but a couple hybrid tires as well. I run dirt, mud, snow up here in the Washington State mountains. I started researching tires that were close to a Blizzak tread design for the rain and snow up here. Finally Mickey Thompson came out with an aggressive looking tire with factory sipped tread. I would get about 30,000 miles running Maxxis Razor MTs or Toyo MTs on my Ram 2500. I’m really looking forward to the next 30,000 miles to compare the two. So far running in the big rain up here I’ve noticed a huge difference in handling in heavy rain and gravel roads. I believe this will be the best tire ever made for my type of driving.
I had the same issue with the Ridge Grapplers. In rain they were terrible for traction. I had a few scary moments driving on them in heavy rain. Went with Falken Wildpeak AT3W’s after and they are so much better!
Toyo makes a 285/75/17 AT tire. I ran their mud terrains on my old Jeep and thought they were great. I opted for the 35x10 or 255’s on my new Jeep. So far I think they are a little noisy for all-terrains but riding around in a soft top with mud terrains for 10 years has made me immune to tire noise. Plus there isn’t a ton of new music I would prefer over the hum of the tires.😂
@@blue_spruce_joe thanks. There is an error on this video that a subscriber pointed out. The tires are the SL versions and not the LT I initially thought and covered in the video. The SLs are lighter and have a 3ply side wall. Just FYI. Your Raptor should handle the LTs just fine.
Upgrading to the Baja Boss AT’s on Monday! I’m so excited to get rid of my Good Year Wrangler Duratrac’s. TERRIBLE tire for snow, ice and rain. Heard nothing but great things from the Mickey’s. Can’t wait!
Weren’t the Goodyear duratracs the first mountain/snow or “3 peak” rated tire available roughly 12 years ago? I don’t understand the hate those tires get today compared to the love people had for them when the 3.6 was new to wranglers. 2012 ish
@@angeloplanes8497 ha, except the 3 peak rating doesn’t mean anything. It just means it met the MINIMUM requirements to make it a “snow tire” the test to get that little logo is very easy to accomplish, there’s a few RUclips videos on how the 3peak logo actually doesn’t mean much… Most All seasons are able to get the 3peak, even if they don’t have the actual logo. Also, my Baja Boss’ are installed on my truck and I went on a few hunting trips in THICK snow, ice and mud in the Alberta Rocky Mountains, We had a 12” snowfall happen a few weeks back and my Mickeys absolutely shocked me. They did phenomenal compared to my Duratrac’s. Honestly can’t recommend the Baja Boss AT’s enough. I’ll never be buying Good Year ever again.
My Tacoma came with Good Year Duratrac and they were losing traction in the rain at 24000. Very loud and chattered causing vibration when coming to a stop a turning slowly. Just got Baja Boss AT’s as a replacement and there is no comparison!! Baja looks so much better and feels so much smoother and the traction was awesome in deep water on highway yesterday. Btw kept my alignment on point with the Good Years and got rid of them at 24000
Have had many tires over the years from Interco Trxus STX rough, great off-road. Pirelli Scorpion A/T+ great on road ok off. General Grabber A/T average all around not great. Have Baja Boss A/T now. Technology has come a long way. Great all around and almost as quiet as the Pirelli's on road. Even now with 25K miles they are quiet and have plenty of tread left. Best tires I have had! Mine are 285/70/17 on a 4Runner. E rated, I would go with the lighter one's if I get another set. No issues, just hurt my gas mileage a bit and the softer sidewalls may help the ride...
Running the Baja Boss M/Ts in 35's on my Tundra now I do a lot of off-road. Am considering switching to the A/Ts for the need for better traction in the snow and ice.
I have Wildpeak AT3Ws in the same size on my 4R. It’s always tempting to go bigger but the stress on everything from the steering rack to the spindles to needing to regear has me thinking I’ll stick with 285s for now. The AT4Ws (C-load) and these in E are on my list. Leaning towards these but we will see how the AT4Ws pan out for people as they rack up miles.
I’ve got roughly 43k miles on my ridge grapplers and I hate driving in the rain with them. No matter how aggressively or conservatively I accelerate, I always slide. There have been 2 experiences when I thought I’d total my truck due to the ENTIRE truck sliding when turning. So ready to get rid of them but trying to get as many miles out of them as possible. Not to mention that after 10k miles I noticed the rubber between the treads were cracking
Yeah I didn't like their wet weather traction, and if that has been your experience just drive carefully. So far I have really been impressed with the MT Baja Boss. Had a few rain storms come through and they have not had any traction issues so far.
Just put these on my 2024 F150 and they are sooooo dman good. I had the Falken AT4W and Nitto Ridge previously. These Mickeys are so much better and look super aggressive
My Ridge Grapplers are wearing low after 30k miles and have Baja Boss on deck. The wet traction is lacking. I have experienced slipping / loss of traction on turns at low speeds. I have a Grand Cherokee and am looking forward to seeing how the Baja Boss holds up.
I made the same change.. honestly did not like my ridge grapplers.. sure they were quiet at first but grew louder and louder past 20k miles.. switched to Baja Boss ATs and they are a better tire in every way.. compound is very sticky never slip n slide like i did with the RGs..
I’m running the Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my F-150. Been a great tire & have never had any issues on or off road. Just two complaints, rides stiffer and not as smooth & gas mileage decreased by two miles per gallon. Only have 10k miles so I’ll have them for a few more years. But I’ll be looking for something better when the time comes!
Yes, but for his needs, rain and more importantly snow. The Ridge Grapplers are great tires, but are not going to to be comparable for those particular conditions that he needs these tires to address.
I have a 2022 Taco and I just put Baja Boss 265/75 R16 on it. I have to OTT tune on it as well, my MPGs have dropped to about 13-14 MPG on the freeway. Is that normal, if I take out the tune will it improve at all?
Did good not going with Falken, but would have gone with at a minimum an XL if you are off-roading that Taco. But I am looking at putting a set of those but also looking at Cooper R/T and possibly, TOYO RT or maybe even Duratrac RT with the 3-ply sidewall.
I really like the MT BB AT so far. They have been incredible. I thought I was going with the E load tire but have been surprised by the performance of the SL tires.
Please explain why he did good not going with Falken.............................. oooooooops Never mind the fact you're looking at Coopers says it all!🤣🤣
I am also running the mickey tompson boss on my 2013 silverado so far the performance has been really good on and off trail highway noise was surprisingly quiet for how aggressive the tread is. The one think i have a complaint is balancing is not good i have taken my truck back twice now for balancing. Have you had any issues with that. Mine are 33x12.5
I thought I ordered the LTs and not the SLs. That was my mistake, but as far as their performance? They have been leaps ahead of the Nittos. Much better in the rain and looking forward to testing out in the snow. They held up great with low pressure (20psi) on a trail run and as for the road compliance they take bumps like a champ. Keep in mind that the also have a great suspension that helps out as well.
@@Mumfy64 Thanks for the reply. Happy to hear the SL is performing well. Definitely going with SL next. I feel the LT might be overkill. Looking forward to a review later.
How are you running / fitting a full size spare? I’m getting a lift with new wheels and tires next month. Getting these tires and I thought a full size would be too large to fit under the truck. Also have a 3rd gen trd off road
Good video but you bombed the specs on both of them tires. 😆. So tread debth @18.5 is in inches. 18.5/32". Also the nitto E rated tire spec is going to have an inflation max pressure of 80 and nearly identical load capacity. Nice upgrade to the mickey's though👍
I have 285 ridge grapplers on ram 1500 with 5.7 terrible tires. Looking for a replacement these look good. My grapplers were terrible in snow mud and wet grass. I was also looking at kenda klevers and toyo rt
Not sure what the nittos have, but the E load Baja Boss has what I would qualify as a wheel guard. The SL tire (which this video is for ) does not have a wheel guard and thinner tread 16/32 vs 18.5/32) than the E load. FYI, The E-load is a 63 lb tire while the SL tire is 48 lb.
I have 38k miles on my truck. 90 miles after I bought my truck new. I changed the tires to 35x12.5R18 to the ridge grapplers. The tire definitely gave me every penny worth. But after 40k miles the tire needed to be changed. Fallcons are complete garbage. Lucky to get 35k out of them and are horrible in rainy conditions. (Had them on my other truck) The Baja bosses I just bought are good for 50k miles. And I love them so far. But just not the price.
I hate to burst your bubble, but you've got the SL rated mickeys installed on your truck, not LT rated.
Thanks for the call out. I did check and they are indeed the SL tires. Different load capacity than the LTs.
