Mickey T's are quite expensive in my country. They are even a bit more expensive than the BF Goodrich KO's. I bought the Radar Renegade R/T tires and it was the best choice of my life. Great quality, handsomely aggressive tread and sidewall design, and IMPRESSIVE price point. They're Rugged Terrain tires, which give you the benefits of both A/T and M/T tires. I currently have almost 30,000kms on them (60% of the time on-road, and 40% off-road) and they still look new!
Great! Yeah Mickey Ts also very expensive in Australia. I paid $600 a tyre for 33”.. Hopefully you continue to get good wear on the Renegades. How’s the road noise ?
@@Perth4WDandCamping Almost zero road noise sir. The tread pattern on the Renegades are closely bunched together like A/T tires, hence no noise. What makes them look really good is the aggressive sidewall pattern similar to mud tires.
Greatly appreciate the honest real world feedback and practical comparison notes against the Falken Wildpeak. The attempt at capturing road noose was a great addition as well. Nice video!
Thank you bro! Great review! I’m from Paraguay and here the BFG KO2 is very expensive, and the MT Baja Boss is a good one and more cheaper than the BFG!
great review, thank you! I have a '19 ranger and 30k miles on my 33" Ko2's... they're not good in the rain, but have been fantastic everywhere else. I'll definitely be considering these next year.
Yeah have heard that feedback from owners of the KO2s, although no personal experience with them. Yeah the Mickeys definitely worth a consideration. Cheers for watching. - Mark
Good review! I have 285/70/17 E-rated 3-ply sidewall Baja Boss AT tires on my 4Runner. They work great in snow, rain and mud. I rotate my tires about every 5000 miles. I am surprised they are still fairly quiet on road. Mine are 2 years old and have 23,000 miles(37,000KM) on them. I have been very happy with them and will be going on another long road trip towing a trailer. Will see how well they work on the rocks at Moab Utah.
Great and very accurate review. I have these on my '16 F150 I only drive city/hwy. Not a lot of road noise, great in the rain and ride well. I love them and get lots of compliments. The only "bad thing" is the side wall rubs my UCAs at full turn but it's not terrible. I recommend these to anyone who has $2k to spend!
Great tread wear with these tires I got about 40,000 miles on my tires and have plenty of life left on them. Make sure to rotate and keep front suspension maintained. These will last you some time
Thanks for the review Mark. I have had the BFG KO2's for about 160k kms on my 200 series and have not missed a beat, except in the scraggly bush tracks, particularly when its damp. On road, gravel, beach and dry tracks all fine, but add water to the tracksand they struggle. My usage is 50/50 road/offroad, and from all that I have read and watched the MT Baja Boss AT seem to be the way to go. The weight isn't an issue as the BFG's were similarly heavy. From the looks of it the agressive sides should improve wet track handling. One other question, with the heavier and thicker carcass how have you found in the lowering of the tyre pressures for tracks and sand, as compared to your previous tyres? Do you have to reduce them lower so you get the length and bagging out or is it about the same? Looking to getting these middle of the year.
I’ve heard similar feedback re the KO2s which was whey they weren’t in my consideration. Re lowering I can’t say I’ve noticed too much difference. You’ll get a bit more balloon effect with a 2 ply (Eg Wildpeak) but I’d personally sacrifice this for the added strength off road. I still get enough length out of the tread when I lower to 12-15PSI on the beach.
Thanks for that Mark. On the beaches down here in the Great Southern they are especially soft and going down to 8psi and lower is not out of the ordinary. Like anything new there will be an element of trial and error, but looking forward to it. 👍
I’ve had a similar experience with BFG KO2 on a 200 series. I’ve always found them great on road and off and much better in damp clay than the previous Cooper Discoverer ATs I used which were terrible. I’ve also been considering the Baja Boss AT next time because everything I’ve seen and read seems to suggest they are at least a little better at everything that’s the relatively old KO2. It was a great review and has me more interested in these tyres.
Just screwed off the top section - I have height issues in the garage and work so gets hit all the time otherwise. Nothing in the screw piece. Radio ok around town but not fantastic outside of the CBD. I generally listen to streaming or downloaded music / podcast so it’s not an issue for me
I’m currently running Nitro Ridge Grapplers and love them. Just curious if you have any experience with them and if you think the Mickey Thompson’s are better?
Sorry I don’t, however if you search up ‘Nitto Ridge Grapplers vs Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT’ on Google, you’ll hopefully find a forum discussion on www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/ Seems whilst some like the Nitros, the majority prefer the MTs. Maybe if they are close, have a look at which performs better in the wet. That’s always an important factor to consider. I’ve been really impressed on the road driving in the wet on the Baja Boss. Hope that helps and good luck!
i own both and nitto ridge grapplers. mickeys have been the best nitto second best falken third. could be due to tire age. mickeys have been my favorites. i like em better than the k02s as well.
Hard to compare fuel use to the AT3s given was on a different vehicle but given they are lighter than the MTs, I would expected fuel use to be marginally higher. Offroad traction I’ve found better in the MTs - much more aggressive treat and sidebiters on the Mickeys certainly helps. Saying that the Falkens are a great all rounder
I have a bit over 15,000 miles on my Mickeys. Mostly on paved roads, where most of us drive most of the time. They're unstoppable on dirt, snow, rain, loose terrain. But they killed my fuel mileage. I knew that it won't be great but losing 2.5 mpg is a bit harsh. But otherwise, they are true off road, all terrain shoes.
@@naturallyjosh yes to both. Baja Boss are heavier so will use a little more fuel and because the tread is more aggressive will be a tad noisier on the road
On the east coast of the US these are some of the cheapest tires out ther ...they were cheaper than the goodyear oem's I replaced. That said, great tire. Maybe the best I've ever driven.
Thanks for the video. Did you have any issues with balancing them? I just had them installed on my Ram 2500 Hemi and when I'm going between 70 and 78 I have a vibration that just wont seem to go away. I even had two different tire shops road balance them.
No mine balanced well. Can I ask if you have lifted the truck? I know this can sometimes some vibration issues and mine needed a centre bearing spacer kit. If not, perhaps best to contact Mickey Thompson direct for advice just in case there is an imperfection with one/or a number of the tyres
Bigger tyres will always impact shift points and your Speedo. I would say shifting isn’t as smooth as on standard 31s but you do get used to it. There is a Facebook group called ‘Ranger & Everest / Amarok Mods Aus - Inc ForScan - SAEB’ which has some good info if this is a route you want to go down
ours have worn out at 40k kms, got 41k kms from at811 as a comparison. hoped for more and were quality but now looking for something that hopefully lasts a bit better.
Interesting. I have 30k on mine now and tread wear is very minimal. Out of interest, what sort of use did you put these through? - was there a lot of towing and what tyre pressures were you running? Rotating / balancing every 10,000km makes a big difference for longevity on any tyre. I’m expecting to see over 80k on these but time will tell.
That was a good review. No towing, just live on 12kms of gravel road with lots of corners and hills. It’s a good test for any tires. I run 32 psi and had swapped and alignment done , on a prado 150 . Thinking the wild Peak you mentioned might be worth a go. Cheers
Tyre pressure could have been a contributor. I run 40PSI all round which was the recommended pressure from Tyrepower (they suggested 38-40). I’m sure gravel roads would have played a role - and no doubt you may have had to drop the pressure for these conditions. Best way to work out what tyre pressure you need is using the 4PSI rule. If you search it up you’ll find some information. It’s by far the best way to keep your pressures right and for longevity. If you’re looking for something different, Wildpeaks are good - not as aggressive as the MTs and have 2 ply sidewall instead of 3 on the MT which makes them not quite as strong, but they are a great all rounder and you’ll find a little less fuel use.
Friends have run Razr before. Good tyre but they didn’t get high km from them which put me off a little. Wildpeaks AT3 are a great tyre but not really in the same category as the Mickey Thompson Baja boss ATs given the MT have a much more aggressive tread and thicker sidewall construction.
Handles great and no vibrations. Like any aggressive tyre, regular tyre rotations - I do every service and balancing will prolong the life of the tyres and ensure you don’t have vibrations
@grandfatherwilkens2987 all comes down to your primary use. If it’s mainly on the road, with a small amount of offroad then the Falkens (they will be a bit quieter on the road and offer good offroad performance). If you’re doing 50/50 on road and offroad and want something more durable offroad (3 ply MT vs the 2 of the Falken) then the MT is in my opinion a superior tyre. For my use the MT ticks all the boxes
