  • I converted my 10 foot aluminum rowboat to a decked out bass boat around three years ago and now its time for a refit. In this video I bring you up to date on the condition of the boat and the kind of work we'll need to do to get her back in action. I haul her out of the water and start tearing out the damage.

Over winter I'm going to make decks on mine. I'm going to use aluminum for the decking somewhere near 3/16" thick an countersink the rivets and I'll never have to replace it again..
Then I'm going to do one of two things for the deck
    1) use etching primer an paint and then sprinkled sand into the paint.
    2) Use carpet an don't glue around the rivets, makes it easily replaceable when it goes bad.

I have a 1998 bass tracker. When I restored it, i had decided to go carpet and bed liner. The front deck and the bottom of the boat are wood with carpet. Everything else got bed liner. The back deck gets fished off of and the bed liner gets scorching hot in the Louisiana summers. After only 2 years, the bed liner has started coming off of the high traffic areas. But I did use the "raptor liner" from Walmart. If I was u and was planning on keeping the boat, I'd just get aluminum sheets to cover everything. Make aluminum lids for compartments. Then carpet everything. Bass tracker does carpet to aluminum, so it's doable and lasts until carpet gets worn out.

Hi, Out in the hot sun and harsh climate, nothing lasts. Now you have built your little boat trailer, why not use that more often to get your boat away and out of the climatic conditions (assuming you have an undercover storage area). When you redo the deck why not use flat/checker plate aluminium. You could cover it with marine carpet. Cheers 🚤

If you do anything similar to paint, pick a light color. We have brown and it's HOT and we are in Illinois. Our old boat was a light grey and worked pretty well.

Plywood will rot out in a few years, especially if you leave it exposed. And carpet will hold moisture and make it rot faster. It holds up longer on pontoons because there aren't any hatches cut out exposing the endgrain. But your boat has lots of hatches. I would recommend skinning it with aluminum and using a light colored bedliner. It will last you forever.

I like Marine vinyl. It held up 40 years in a Lund. Amazon now offers smaller lengths and better prices. I don’t know what happens in FL heat and exterior storage. Exterior grade plywood and spar varnish has worked. I have also used thinner plywood since spans are relatively short in a small johnboat.

I had to redo the decks on the old sea nymph more than a few times. Until I just use 1/8 aluminum diamond plate with a white raptor bed liner rolled on. Been solid for almost 10yrs.

For the deck I would go with aluminum checkerplate and bed liner. Never have to do it again!

TotalBoat TotalTread Non-Skid Deck Paint. Check it out... did it on my aluminum decking on my johnboat and loved how it turned out. Alot cheaper than the high-end EVA foam I considered using. You can find it a Jamestown Distributors

Coosa board or thermolight? is a lightweight plastic with glass fibre reinforcement. The foam comes out the best, there's a Jon boat channel that do a lot of diy foam stuff. Carpet would be my second choice and bed liner would get really hot and also reflect the heat.

Hello happy fishing Friday engineer angler great video I enjoy this video you used that phrases work smarter not harder in this video 🎣👍🏼 I don't know anything about boats or repairing boats i love that fishing boat it beautiful but I agree with you on. How you want to fix your boat 👍🏼🎣I can't wait to see part 2 of the fishing boat repair

I'd personally go with a good marine grade plywood and boat carpet. If you go with bedliner and have any issues you are redoing the entire deck again. At least with carpet you can repair it pretty easily and cheaply or just rip it up and replace it. Sealed Marine grade plywood should last you a good while too.

The carpet works well and will Outlast the sea deck. Do not use the truck liner bed liner stuff. It is heavy and it gets dirty and it's almost impossible to clean. Not to mention it will get hot as well.

Rhinoliner or bedliner. Clean and cover the rust. Use marine grade plywood, cover with a good primer then paint over that.

if you go plywood ocver with poly resin, then skip trowl poly resin abd thickeners, paint with alexseal topcoat with added soft sand.

My Guitar is made of Carbon Fiber, doesnt get affected at all by temp, water or humidity and its strong as hell. If you could the hefty price tag, that would last a long time.

PVC panels expand and contract too much, and they warp. I sided part of my house with them, huge mistake. Don't use marine plywood either, the chemicals in it will eat the aluminum. Maybe try cedar decking and use an oil based sealer on both sides and the cut ends! before installing it?

Plywood is cheap but needs replacing after couple years, aluminium deck lasts practically forever. You could go with cheaper plywood decking but in that case you kinda want to invest in heavy duty custom fit tarp to extend that plywoods life.

They have wood siding that you put on a house that is guaranteed for 50 years you could put whatever coating you want on top of that but that's probably the least expensive wood that you would be able to use good luck

Wax on the runners would have been a lot cleaner than the grease but or you could have used vegetable oil

If you have engineering friends who work construction, especially for highways, ask if they have a bone yard of aluminum road sign. ones bent up, or whatever. That makes excellent decking, and you can use those aluminum rivets without oxidation from stainless. Many years ago I decked a johnboat the same way so I know it works. Also what about sheets of plywood, but covered in fiberglass sheeting? I redid the floor in my Carolina Skiff with chop mat for strength, then a topcoat of the smoother style roll fabric cut to size. with a final layer of white gel coat with saw dust mixed in to make a grip surface. Hasn't yet failed in over 8 years..

Use King StarBoard with no covering.

I would go to a metal scrap yard and see if they have any aluminium sheets to use for the deck and then paint it with rhino liner paint non slip.

i have used liner xtreeme (easy diy with a cheap HF gun, comes in lots of colors or clear) bed liner a few times on my jeep body and frame. last time i think it was like $200 for a 3 gallon kit, which i guess you'd need 1-1/2 gal if that. 10 years later its still going strong even after burning down my garage the liner was mostly unfazed. For the flooring, marine grade plywood would be my first go to, doing it on the cheap maybe pressure treated plywood.

I used aluminum with carpet glued to it but mine isn't in the weather. I doubt carpet would last and aluminum would be bright unless it was painted, then it would be hot. You could make it easy to change the carpet when it becomes warn ?!

How about that composite dock decking ( not tr3x, the other, solid, one, with the fiberglass in it), and cut it shiplap, or tongue in groove. ….its all small areas, and you wouldn’t need any other no skid covering, like that EVA foam. ….just seal your seams with silicone.
We just did our dock in it and it has a 25yrs warranty on warping.
I will warn you to wear PP gear. …maybe a paint sprayers jumpsuit, and certainly a mask. The fellas, who installed for us, said that its a little itchy to work with because of the fiberglass in it…they used a hose to rinse their arms when they got dusty. …but i know you have a suit, because, Ive seen you in it 😂.
Im amazed that that composite whiteboard warped, like that, on the hatch doors, at least.

If you seal the wood with resin and finish it with gelcoat (make shure to sand it well before: topcoat and sprincle some chinchilla sand over it while its wet you get some nice anti slip surface. Finish off with one light layer of top coat to seal the anti slip.
I did it on my boat and works great: ruclips.net/video/heMxXMgzAZk/видео.htmlsi=zmT5QxRtRdqFH3Vm
