I had a Syrian hamster who’d been sent back to the shop 4 times! I got her when my parents split up and I was told she was dangerous. She bit other people but never bit me and it was like she almost knew she was there to comfort me and make it easier. She was amazing!

Mine used to bite me a lot the first few months. But now she never does (except if my fingers smell like food lol). BUT SHE NEVER STAYS CALM IN MY HAND, she always wanna run away..
I had the sweetest little winter white/cambell girl. She never bit me once and was super sweet when handled. She used to sit and eat with me. I miss her.
My dwarf hamster was my best friend. His name was Arthas, he passed away Sunday night and I had him for 2 1/2 years. He loved cuddles! Sweetest lil dude
uh jade my sisters hamster was her best friend her name was tiny and she had her for 1 year because she was bleeding and didn’t eat a lot but she was amazing
I have one, she's super lazy. Play time? More like walk around for a few minutes and then go back to sleep time. Never knew a hampster could be so relatable
Did you mean to put a comma in between supper and dangerous? Because I was honestly about to write a 3 paragraph argument about how a dog can be more dangerous than a hamster.
i got a hamster a while back. i realised soon after i wasn’t able to provide everything he needed, and i was terrified to ask my parents about it since i’ve begged them for one for months on end. i felt so ashamed and disappointed in myself because of the amount of research i did, i thought it would be easy. i plucked up the courage and asked my parents about buying a new cage. they said it was a silly idea as his cage was “already big enough” which i knew it wasn’t. even though we only had two weeks together, i felt like i really liked wilbur. when i finally plucked up the courage to ask my parents to take him back with me, it took a day but i convinced them. i thought it would be the best idea since i felt horrible 24/7 knowing i wasn’t able to give him the time or space he needed. it’s been almost 2 weeks without him, and i really miss him. i just pray he gets a better home and i pray i did the right thing.
I’m so sorry!!!!! Can you plssss expand on what aspects you found challenging?? I’m thinking of getting a hamster myself and I’d love to hear more about your experience
@@mariarastic well, first off everyone talks a lot about the sleeping, just please make sure you get them a silent wheel, or move them to where you are not sleeping (because their so loud!)second of all, of course not every hamster is the same, and your may train a lot faster, but my hamster was really not comfortable around me (for the last few days i had him he was a lot more comfortsble and would come outside around me)so my advice to you is just be super patient and they will end up liking you! another thing is the health requirements. i started using wood shavings for my hamster (i made sure they were the correct ones) but my hamster ended up being allergic. this caused a lot of worry for me as he would never come out him hideaway and whever he did, he would sneeze like mad. the final thing is the requirements for his enjoyment. the right cage size is SUPER important, and i did not have the room to provide him this. sorry for the huge para, but just be super sure before you get one. they are super sweet pets and i’m sure you still love yours though!!
I got a dwarf roborovski as my first hamster and she was perfect. She trusted me and allowed me to hold her and pick her up very quickly and never really bit me. I loved her so much and am happy that I was able to give her a good home. She unfortunately passed away in March and I miss her every day 😔😭
i’m a thirteen year old girl,i got a robo for my first hamster, i’ve only had him for a bit but he’s super nice, he was a little skittish at first but the second day i started trying to tame him he plopped down on my hand and started grooming himself. i think that like victoria said, a creature isn’t defined by its species, it’s defined by itself
This is like the same exact situation that happened for me I am also a thirteen year old girl who’s first hamster was a robo but my hammy was very timid and it took maybe two weeks to get her to be comfortable enough to groom herself on me but she would climb on my hand and take food from me from the get go
6:17 Yes finally! So many people say “I hate cats because one attacked me” or “dogs are mean and they love biting people” but they just had one bad experience and that doesn’t mean the whole species is terrible and evil. Also it was prolly because they had bad dog/cat body language or they approached an animal who was clearly scared
I wouldn't say it's the person's fault if they get bitten by a dog. I was walking home from work once and saw a woman throwing a ball for a dog in the park. They were like 50 metres away and I didn't think anything of it and kept walking. Next thing I know the dog is behind me and bit me on the back of the leg. I freeze because I know the worst thing to do is try and run away. It was circling me nipping and scratching my legs. The owner was running up to us and when she got close the dog took off down the street. I love dogs btw. None of my dogs ever attacked people.
I got a dwarf hamster/Campbells dwarf hamster. He is so cute and nice. He’s bitten me 2 but that was at the start and didn’t really trust me because I adopted him from a pretty bad owner that hadn’t done their research and followed what the pets at home had said. I have given him the correct things and keep him safe from everything they did(they gave him cedar shavings, 420 floor space. He is now tamed and has everything he needs I’ve just been able to get him a sand bath and amazing enrichment(not as much as Victoria). I’m going to get him a bigger cage in a few weeks( zoo zone 2).
I have a Syrian ( fancy hamster ) and he is the BEST! He's my first hamster. I've had him for almost a year now. He has a lot of energy, but he makes time for snuggles too.
My Syrian hamster was so energetic and I felt bad for him because he was never happy, but nevertheless I tried so hard to satisfy him. He was so friendly, and he has never bitten anyone. He is close to my heart but he's crossing the rainbow bridge now 🌈
Last week i got a syrian hanster and omg shes so active dont know what to do. She climbs on me till my head go down climbs again on me. Like im her toy🤭 then she started to climb behind the radiator😭😭in the washmand ectr, i dont have that much energy in the night to play so long with her
Yep the pet store guy gave me a Syrian hamster because “they are the best beginner species” and I’m having a lot of problems, I’m actually selling my bookshelf and getting something to store makeup, hair stuff, and other stuff in something that rolls then moving my vanity and building a new cage to make my baby Rosie happy!!!!! I’m so stressed! She is very mean! But I’m trying to do everything!!!
@@teresabelshaw6694 they’re terrified by you, some hamsters are just very defensive kind of like mine. If you just got one then leave them alone for a while (a week maybe) and try again to tame them.
A little while ago I got my winter white, everytime i would put my hand in the cage for any reason at all she would bite me and cling on to my finger and almost always drew blood, we had to switch her out at pet smart cause she was so mean and now I have a fuzzy bear hamster, she bit me ones cause I scared her and that’s the only time she did, and luckily lol she had like snake fangs. She’s literally the nicest thing ever
@@sugamama305 I'm so sorry, I believe dwarfs are harder to tame then Syrian's ( Not too sure about this ) I'm hoping your winter white went to a new home and was tamed (probably would have taken a while ) I wish you and your syrian the best of luck! ❤️
I got a Syrian and she is a SWEATHEART, her name is Trixie we got her a few days ago she is so sweet and let's me pet her and pick her up. (she is a teddy bear hamster)
I was just watching you lol Edit: I 100% agree with you. My sweet pumpkin, Latte, is so hard to please. I get really stressed when my lil’ Latte is stressed or not pleased. But, I know she is happy, so that does soothe me.
Anipanini yeah... she was fine this morning and last night, eating, running on her wheel, drinking, interacting with me, and then I came home from school, and she was dead. I don’t know how. I think she was sick, and I just didn’t notice. Maybe I could’ve prevented it.
I had a winter white for three years. She was my first ever hamster and I named her Pepsi and she was my everything. She loved being picked up and handled and she did nibble but more out of curiosity. She was such a sweet heart. She got along with my Guinea pigs too. Now after two years of mourning im thinking of getting a hamster again. I am debating trying something harder like the robo hamster. This video helped a lot with choosing what one I want to take on as a pet owner.
I just got my first hamster yesterday (Syrian) and she was known to be a "brat" and aggressive according to the store workers. But when I took her home, she was sweetest and is already comfortable with me holding her and feeding her by hand :) I've been watching your videos, and they really help a lot!!
I personally prefer Syrian hamsters, I've had them when I was younger but would like to look after one again because I am embarrassed and horrified at how bad my past hamster care was, I was 5 or 6 and had no idea what I was doing, the pet stores don't care about the pet care they just want you to buy stuff which explains why all the cages are below the basic needs of a hamster. Having stumbled across your channel a while ago and doing more research specifically on German hamster care standards I will be building my own large DIY cage and filling it with so much bedding I can't wait. I had no idea you could rescue hamsters until I found a whole bunch up for adoption at blue cross (a rescue group)
I've owned my first Robo for about 7 weeks now, a month after I brought him he's taking treats from my hand and inspecting my hand when I introduce it to him; He's doing so well
I had a winter white hamster and she was the most calm and social hamster i've ever seen!!! she basically didn't need time to adjust when we brought her home and immediately started eating and drinking in front of me and she used to let everyone pet her to the point where anyone could introduce their hand to her cage and she climbed up to them with so much confidence and calmness!! (this might be because she associated this with getting treats since that's how i tamed her when she came home though, idk)
My Syrian always made me feel like i wasn't doing enough, not sure if it was coming from a bad situation or her nature. She was happy sometimes though and was very nice.
My first hamster who I still have is a male Chinese hamster named Leopold . He was a bit shy but he eventually got used to me. I’ve noticed he likes a lot of bedding and is very active at night which is typical for hamsters as far as I can tell.
I have a campbell dwarf for a year and she bit me twice and my grandma once and my grandma was only giving her water.. I’m a Syrian person and unfortunately had a bad experience with Campbell’s dwarf. And now I made a choice of taking her in the animal shelter for a home. I think for the rest of my time I’ll stick with Syrian hamsters 😅. She’s adorable though just a fiesty one.
Robo is short for Roborovski. Edit: for everyone that thinks I’m so dumb, I know it was a joke. I was only saying this for the people that didn’t know what robo was short for. 🤦
I’ve never had an unfriendly dwarf. I did have one “agressive” one who did nibble a bit but he still came out for me and he was fine with being held. I think that maybe with a more experienced owner (he was my second) he could’ve been perfectly friendly
Syrian hamsters are just the "entitled" hamsters of their species.. Mine is spoiled. And he still complains.😤 An ungrateful, chunky McChicken nugget he is.
Plants have feelings to. They tried screaming towards plants and give bad energy during research. The plants died within 3 weeks. I thinks the best beginner pets are wild birds. If they don’t like you they will just fly away. Just dont let them bath in warm water during cold periods. That is about the only thing that can go wrong.
In my family’s experience, dwarf hamsters bite a bit more because they were like, ‘look but don’t touch’ whereas the Syrians we had were always looking for attention and climbing up people 😂
00 2 Wow you’re lucky, my dad started off with just petting her but she would bite really hard. He started using these gloves to try to pick her up so she becomes more comfortable around us, and we tried to do it as much as possible to help her and it actually worked. I believe it took around 2-3 weeks for her to stop biting though, she was really nervous the first weeks. But now she never bites us and i can pick her up with no gloves, she loves being out of her cage and playing with us.
When we brought home our hamster, we left him alone for about 3 days, then on day 4 when we slowly tried to pick him up, he didn’t even move or jump! I’m grateful to have a really nice hamster now because my old one wasn’t tamed at all until a month before he died :’(
I got a Syrian hamster about 6 months ago and he's EXTREMELY demanding. He has a big cage with plenty of enrichment, since recently he's allowed to free roam (he returns to his own cage after a while and doesn't try to escape). The free roaming seems to have finally satisfied his needs.
My first hamster was a syrian, and she was a doll. I could handle her, she trusted me. She loved saying hi every morning to me from her aquarium, but then she started escaping it so I got her a more square footage two story cage and she loved it. She was my sweetheart. Lived to two
I had a robo and that was my first hamster ever and he was really cute and he got tamed in only 3 days I don’t know why people don’t like robos that much anyway unfortunately he passed away and he lived for 2 years Rest In Peace lil buddy😭😭
Haven't been around hamster's really in some year's I've did plenty of research on there needs and wants a Robo Dwarf hamster is the one I'm really wanting
My robo is adorable but he never really has been tamed despite my attempts to . His sister (winter/Campbell) is a sweetheart and super tame . Just for a different experience to help you decide
I had 4 robos. I got two "females" from petco. One was actually a male and they started mating like 6 months after I bought them. I got 2 surprise babies. My two dominant females (mom and daughter) were grouchy. The daughter bit my thumb once and my thumb started squirting blood. Mom never bit me but she bit everyone else. My male was hulk in disguise and cool. My smallest female was the sweetest thing. They all had different personalities so it's really a gamble on what you get. I always see robos on offerup or craigslist for free so if you want to rescue instead!
I have a robo dwarf, and since without you, she probably would have lived a short and sad life, I decided to name her Tater Tot! She is almost 4 months old, and is my best friend. She is still a little scared of me, but she know I won’t hurt her, and will come up to me when I open the lid of her cage. She has yet to climb on my hand, but we’re getting there, and I hope everything goes well. Thank you for informing me on the proper care of a hamster, and without you, I would never have really gotten a hamster.
My winter white hamster bit me when i got overly eager with him when i first got him after weeks of work trying to bond with him, so i had to start from scratch to build our bond and eventually i started handling him regularly and he never bit me again. He passed 2016 but i miss him to this day, he was the sweetest 💜
My winter white hamster is very sweet. The lady that helped us look at the hamsters said that the winter white hamsters are mean and they bite a lot witch is very surprising for how sweet mine is. You cant assume that the whole breed is that way. I’m so glad that you did the same in your video. ❤️
when we got a winter white several years ago thr petco worker kept talking about how scary her red eyes were and how it would be mean (in front of my 4 year old who wanted it for his birthday)... continued to do so despite me explaining I wake up at 430 am to go to work and it would get plenty of hand training even if that was true... she was clearly traumatized from some pet she had. that hamster was sweet and only nibbled during the first week of bonding. the robo I got after her bit way harder
I have a winter white Campbell's hybrid and the FIRST day i got him he climbed into my hand (without me trying to get him to) and wasn't scared or timid at all, He's very sweet💕
My first hamster was a robo, she was so outgoing and cute. She would sit on my shoulder and come out of hiding when she heard people talking, she is the reason I got another hamster. I miss you, Bean
I got a dwarfhamster like two weeks ago, and he was so easy to tame!! He's really curious and often come out from his nest to say hello or play/cuddle. Currently he is 10 weeks old! 😍🐹❤
i think the whole picture of hamsters on instagram is distorted: typically hamsters hate lying on their back. also, i saw so many videos where hamsters were kept together with 10 more hamsters. this can be very dangerous :( and everytime I see hamster videos in which the hamsters have to live in a small plastic cage, it breaks my heart
I had a roberoski for my first and she was a tough one to tame but we had the best relationship and she was so cute, I’ve currently got a Syrian now and even though they’re a lot calmer he’s really really shy so it’s going to take longer to tame but it’s worth it :)
I had a robo, I didn't know any thing about hamsters, i had small cage, it was kept with a different gender of the same breed, and chewed the bars, I am an idiot
I got recommended betta fish videos, but it hurts because I recently had my betta die and he was so young (he was 13 months) ,and I think he died of fin rot I got a new betta that looks exactly like him to ease the pain. I will always remember him though, I also have a friend that has many animals but she’s a 9 year old and she takes awesome care of her animals.she has two dogs, a few cats,a turtle,a tortoise, and two bunnies
I got a chinese dwarf hamster last year for christmas after researching for months on your channel, and she’s the sweetest! I was told that she’d be skittish and it would take a while for her to trust me, but after she adjusted to my house and her new cage, she never bit or was shy with me, and even comes out sometimes during the daytime!
Our two Dwarfs are the best example for 'every hamster has his own personality'. One is super lazy and loves to just sit on the hand an nibble a snack. The other is a fluffy version of Flash that just can not sit still. Both of them are absolutely adorable and never bit us in the year that they are with us now.
I had one cambell dwarf which was quite mean to me theyre whole life, i was starting to think they were all like that until i got a winter white hybrid. She was the sweetest little girl ever, never bit me, always very calm. Didn't even try to run off most of the time, and even fell asleep next to me twice. Snowflake will be missed. ❤️
My Syrian died a few days ago... :c I didn’t get to bond with him much, he didn’t seem to like me... I will still very sad, we buried him in my backyard 😭
My first two hamsters were winter whites (probably hybrid too) but they made me fall head over heels in love with hamsters. They were the best little boys ever and my third was a Syrian who I loved so much that it traumatized me when he died and 11 years later I’m finally ready to get a new hamster 🐹
I have a 9 month old Syrian hamster named Princely...yup, very hard to please, she's very solitary and doesn't really liked being picked up and even now still tries to escape but isn't aggressive. We have a pretty good relationship, I talk to her every day, let her taste different things and let her dictate what she wants and what her boundaries are. Her sister, who is from the same litter, is quite hyper, more affectionate and mischievious.
I know Syrian hamsters are actually quite hard to please my hamster is like that but when u play with her she seems pleased but idk however after u play with her she gets super hyper so when u play with her she gets fast and climbs ur back but she does loved being cuddled ❤️❤️
@@Mr.Almosteverywhere I have a Robo, They are a little fluff ball full of energy, they can escape easily tho. Mine is kinda tame but its still skittish. You have to be really patient with them. So I kinda recommend but not for your first Hamster
@@Mr.Almosteverywhere if you do a lot of research and know to get a big cage, any hamster is a good first time hamster. But robos are a handful! Id probably recommend a winter white or a syrian because they are usually the most calm! (Not all of course)
@@Mr.Almosteverywhere it is great one thing is when you take them out they run around you so get a playpen or a hamster ball but they are so sweet and cute!
That’s interesting because my Syrian (who is from petco) seems to be fine in a 40 gallon tank. I give him wheat sprays, boredom breakers, sand baths, chews, and all sorts of toys and all he does in run on his wheel, dig in his sand bath, and burrow, and he’s a happy ham. He honestly for me is a great beginner hamster.
Hi you are a really good RUclipsr and I use to have one of those bad cages and I kept on watching your videos and now I don’t have the best but I do the best i can so you have a little hamster with better care
Cynthia Martinez I know right! His name is Milo and for the longest time he was stuck in a critter trail. I never saw him bite bars, despite the obvious need of room. He has been moved and is much more enriched and equally as cute!!!
Me: looks at my Syrian who pees all over his bath , chews the bars every night, escapes his cage , and bites whenever you try to lay him on his stomach to give him a little check up.
I got my first hamster today, at 22. She’s a beautiful all white Robo. I’m perfectly ok if she never becomes calm and tame, but she’s already SO sweet. I think her temperament is really fantastic, which is why I picked her.
The only hamsters I've owned so far are syrians, I love them, but another thing to keep into consideration when getting one is that it's typically harder and often more expensive to get them the right sized toys and wheels for them since they're much bigger than dwarfs
my cambells dwarf hamster is really friendly & doesn’t bite me anymore and he is also well liked by my family members & my friends !! he’s super sweet & cute
My friend has a dwarf and he is really friendly and my Syrian hamster is really shy and skiddish but I managed to pick him up for about 6 seconds before he jumped
My mother bought my daughter a Chinese hamster for her first pet. She's 5. It's also my first time having a hamster. Her name is sweetie and she is indeed very sweet. We've only had her for 3 weeks now and I'm enjoying taking care of her and showing and learning with my daughter about her
We don't care if you have re filmed this! We still love all the videos you make, and you always give us new information each time, even if you've done it five times! ♡ Edit: I'm glad you said the part about the hamster never being happy. I have given my hamster the Ikea cage, and he enjoyed it for a month, but then went haywire. Rather than sleeping, he now tries to escape.
Almost a year ago now I really got the urge to get a hamster. I was immediately drawn to a specific little dwarf at the pet store. I left without him that day but couldn’t stop thinking about him, and ended up going the next day. I never even had to train him at all. He is the sweetest little guy and I just adore him. Since day one he has loved to sit in my hand eating treats, and sometimes sleeps in the sleeve of my rob. He even comes out of his burrowed spots when he hears my voice. Anyway, since buying him a year ago I’ve been watching your videos and enjoy them all. 😍
Aww that’s so cute but I suggest not getting any animals for pet stores bc they will come from breeding mills instead you could get them from responsible breeders or rescue shelters or adopt one!❤❤❤
Believe me I would if I could. I always get my bunnies from a breeder and both my dogs are rescues from a shelter. My hamsters however I get at a pet store.
My Friend has winter white hamster (probably a hybrid) And she is sooo sweet she is very calm and Loves to sit on ur lap but her other hamster is a dwarf and she Really doesn’t like to be played with she loves to be alone

@@em84c I didn’t mean it’s always the humans fault, but some people just walk up to dogs they’ve never met and start petting.

After owning a ton of Syrians I had bought a dwarf and I adored him he was adorable and very friendly so I guess it depends on you
I had a winter white for three years.
But when I took her home, she was sweetest and is already comfortable with me holding her and feeding her by hand :)
I've been watching your videos, and they really help a lot!!
Cute
Aw 💕 it's probably just streseed in the petstore lol
When ever I get a hamster I let the hamster choose me😊by letting them like walk onto my hand 🐹
smart thank you ill try that when i pick mine out

True by taming. My Syrian was hard to tame. She started biting me so I wear gloves. Is this good to do?
i agree because my first hamster was a Syrian and it was a lot more hyper and bit me more than my dwarf.
I have found all types of Hammies to be equally sweet, but I think it's more about the Hammie and how they're treated rather than the breed...
Edit: I'm glad you said the part about the hamster never being happy. I have given my hamster the Ikea cage, and he enjoyed it for a month, but then went haywire. Rather than sleeping, he now tries to escape.
I own a Syrian named Stitch and he is the cutest most sweet hamster I have ever owned

Believe me I would if I could. I always get my bunnies from a breeder and both my dogs are rescues from a shelter. My hamsters however I get at a pet store.
My Friend has winter white hamster (probably a hybrid)
And she is sooo sweet she is very calm and Loves to sit on ur lap but her other hamster is a dwarf and she
Really doesn’t like to be played with she loves to be alone
